Colleague made sarky comment about me re. GB News

OneStepBeyondd · 30/05/2025 22:21

Discussion at work earlier - does anyone watch the news. Another colleague and I said we don’t mind GB news on occasion to which someone said (directed at me) - ‘I didn’t have you down as one of them’ in a judgemental tone.

Is it me or is that a bit rude and unnecessary?

She was asked if she watched the news and she said she watched GB News occasionally. So, that’s the only news she watches. I’m asking why.

I read much more news than I watch. That’s quite common these days, with mobile tech I would imagine? Just musing, really, if that could be relevant in the OP’s case.

(I used to look out for Andrew Doyle on GBN though. His show was also available on You Tube shortly after it had been broadcast live.)

It's not just whether or not it's far right, it's the fact that every single presenter looks and talks like a mutant, misfit or alien in a human suit.

Jewel52 · 31/05/2025 09:20

OneStepBeyondd · 31/05/2025 09:03

Nige used to do a great segment called ‘talking pints’ (I’m not sure if it’s still going) - there would be a wide range of guests on that, a lot of sports people etc. I know the followers of the guests would often tune in - I suppose they all turned into extreme right racists too 😂

“Nige” just yuck

i suspect you got a sarky comment from a colleague as you present as a supercilious person. They just don’t like you much and saw this as a chance to slap you down a little. Or perhaps they too are just delightfully bonkers 🤢

From what I've seen nearly all the female presenters have long hair.

Apart from that I can't see any cloning going on.

When and where did you see your first alien? GB news might want to do a segment on that.

Agree!! I dont watch it but i saw a bit the other (i didn't put it on!)day there was a odd looking female presenter who had undertaken ridiculous amounts of age defying surgery she looked very creepy indeed!

Who ??

I didn't catch her name, a female presenter, she didn't seem like a very nice person. Maybe that is the one the poster was talking about. Elderly, long brown hair, plastic face.

hattie43 · 31/05/2025 09:36

Jeez , why bother worrying about misogyny when you’ve got women tearing down women . Personal attacks are the lowest .

NestEmptying · 31/05/2025 09:36

clappydays · 31/05/2025 09:11

Watching a variety of news sources is good for you! Otherwise you end up believing that everything you disagree with is ‘far Right’. People don’t even know what that term means but they keep saying it anyway.

Agreed. A balance of views is best.
You could just as easily substitute 'woke' for 'far right'. It's best not to be too extreme either way.
GB news is more towards the right than most other news so you balance it with the Guardian.

dontcryformeargentina · 31/05/2025 09:39

OonaStubbs · 31/05/2025 02:33

GB News is just a news channel. No different to Sky News or BBC News. People are entitled to watch any news channel or read any newspaper they want, it doesn't make someone a better person just because they read the Guardian and not the Sun or Daily Mail.

100% this

BIWI · 30/05/2025 22:28

This is a bit like saying you like a bit of light racism, homophobia and misogyny

Edited

This. Frankly, I’d be ashamed to admit to watching GB news (“news”) - but then again, if I felt such shame I’d probably watch a decent news channel - you know, the sort where reporters attempt to be impartial 🤷🏻‍♀️ So now you know.

Of course they can watch what they like. However you’re telling people what your politics and values are when you share that you watch GB News.

Only if you only watch things that accord with your existing views.

And only if you assume an outlet’s output has a uniform slant.

Signs of a dull person/outlet respectively.

TheAutumnCrow · 31/05/2025 09:46

TENSsion · 31/05/2025 08:20

Why are you being so condescending?

Have you never tagged the wrong person on here or responded to the wrong post?

I certainly have.

I’ve even written the wrong words Grin

Pricelessadvice · 31/05/2025 09:46

Anyone who gets riled by someone else’s choice of news outlet needs help.
People can consume whatever news they like and should be free to do so without pathetic comments from other people who can’t bear people having a different viewpoint to them.
And no I don’t watch, nor have ever watched GB news, but I don’t care one iota if people do. That’s up to them.

Toptotoe · 31/05/2025 09:47

Bluesuedevest · 31/05/2025 08:43

I agree it was snarky.

People can watch what they want on TV and read what newspaper they want.

If people get judgemental about me I tell them I watch Russia Today and watch their jaws drop !

It used to have very interesting sections on Russia Today their before it was censored ( banned) by the thought police aka the uk government who believe we are not capable of making up our own minds and criticise the same censorship in other countries!

I think you mean Camilla Tominey. She's the Associate Editor of the daily Telegraph.

She can be rather sharp and can tie guests up in knots.

Recently she challenged the Labour MP Alex Ballinger's claim about the Chagos Island's deal costing the UK taxpayer 3.4 billion when estimates put the cost at £30 billion.

I can say if she's had a lot of work done on her face, she's 46 so I wouldn't have thought she needed it yet.

AaaahBlandsHatch · 31/05/2025 09:52

Haven't RTFT - have we had the usual "sneering like this is why we get Brexit/UKIP/Reform?" and "why do you hate normal working class people?" yet?

Because if so I'd just like it known that yes I do sneer. I'm solidly working class but judge people by their beliefs and actions, not their socioeconomic group. If someone's stupid and gullible I'm not gonna avoid calling them that just because they work in a shop or drive a lorry.

ParmaVioletts · 31/05/2025 09:53

Op we've got some of those, mutter vicious comments if you're caught reading the daily mail!!

They are the biggest bloody hypocrites in the office and I've come to realise not very bright at all.
Just ignore.

FedupofArsenalgame · 31/05/2025 09:55

BIWI · 30/05/2025 22:35

Perhaps @StarDolphins you should actually watch it then, and see just why people respond in the way that they do?

Edited

But surely all the people piling on the OP must've watched it themselves to cobe to the conclusion is " right wing" " racist" or whatever.

If they haven't actually watched it for themselves before commenting then they are just parroting others

In most lines of work supporting misogyny and homophobia would be a serious concern so yes I’d be surprised anybody admitted to supporting GB News and would be monitoring it.

You are joking aren't you? Have you seen the number of corporates that sign up to Trans Women Are Women? It is literally impossible to agree with that statement unless you undefine both femalesness and same-sex attraction.

I don't know about you, but I think it's pretty damn misogynist/homophobic to believe that not only are female people and gay people so unimportant we don't even need to admit they exist let alone acknowledge that they have experiences and suffer discrimination that are intrinsicly linked to sex, but that even saying out loud what they are or describing their own experiences is an actual act of hate.

ParmaVioletts · 31/05/2025 09:59

Light racism and misogyny can be applied to nearly all news outlets unfortunately, particularly the BBC.

What I've seen on GB news which other channels don't have is robust debate and they allow it.

I watch most news channels except the BBC.

Attitudes like that are why people usually keep their political leanings to themselves - unless they are left-wing (i.e., acceptable) and in alignment with the consensus parroted by the MSM.

I’m the same. I read most of my news, from a pretty varied range of sources. If that’s the case with the OP, then that’s totally fair - and very different to only getting her news from GB News. Has she clarified this anywhere? If she has and I missed it, then my apologies.
