To think that women (or men) who drop their kids off at school in PJS, go shopping in Tesco in pj's and come down to the breakfast in a hotel in pj's are wrong in the head?

I visited Amsterdam last year and was shocked to see an apparently middle class women coming down to breakfast in her pj's,dressing gown and slippers. Similarly going round Tescos where there are people, especially women in pj's and slippers. No doubt I'll be called an old right wing fascist or something.

Why the 'wow'? I think it's a perfectly reasonable comment.

So you actually think that women with chaotic lifestyles eg combinations of addictions, lots of children by different men who come and go, very low income, irregular housing situations, not capable of providing clean clothes, regular meals etc should have children do you?

I certainly don't. And presumably the social workers, family courts and other services who have to deal with the unfortunate children brought up in this way don't either.

Such massive leaps in this post that I'm surprised you haven't exited the earth's atmosphere.

What an absolutely nasty, narrow-minded and judgemental set of Daily Mail knee-jerk rent-a-prejudices. I'd actually prefer to know a non-judgemental person who went to the shop in their PJs, than an impeccably dressed person spouting the sort of bile you did in your post.

I am quite particular with indoor clothes and outdoor clothes. I always wonder if these people in pjs and slippers, then get back into their house and walk around dirtying their carpets and then in to their bed, bringing outside dirt and general peoples bacteria in their home and bed!?

🤨

The secret is to wear tracksuit bottoms, leggings, t shirts and hoodies etc as your PJ’s then no one knows. They see you in them bright and early and think it is gym related.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 29/05/2025 22:29

So you started with objecting to people going out in public wearing pjs, which is a reasonable viewpoint. Not one that everyone will agree with, but not outrageous either. However, you’ve then progressed onto saying you never leave the house without makeup, the importance of having some decorum, and some nonsense about the middle class leading the working class, so you’ve ended up just sounding like you’re looking for a reason to claim superiority over people. Snobbishness is a far more unattractive trait than the perceived laziness of going out in PJs in my book. I would not go out in PJs, but I wouldn’t judge someone else if they did, I wouldn’t think less of them. I do really dislike snobs though.

Well judging by the number of children in this country who are in care, or under the supervision of social services, there are plenty of people who should not have become parents.
Furthermore, from a social services point of you a parent doesn't even have to be a good parent, they just have to be "good enough", so clearly there are parents who don't even reach that level.
If stating those facts is judgemental then I'm happy to be called that.

wizzywig · 29/05/2025 22:34

I'm utterly shocked. MN usually prides itself on being as low maintenance as possible. More than 1 birthday present? You're spoiling them! Makeup and anything more than a bar of soap on your face is wasteful and unnecessary.

For me, that bloody awful teletubby top knot bun needs to be made illegal on men and women

I quite like the idea of coming down to breakfast in a hotel wearing a lovely pair of PJs and a dressing gown. I think it would look cosy to just see people shuffling around sleepily munching on toast and sipping coffee. I usually get dressed as normal but will have my slippers on as I just can’t stand to have shoes on so early and especially when I’m having brekky - it’s so wrong to me! 😅

I was going to say it seems cosy if I see someone nip to the corner shop of an evening to grab some milk in their onesie or something. Can imagine them going back, sitting on the couch with a cuppa - which is exactly what I'd want to do in that moment too! 😅 Couldn't do it myself though, feel too sloppy and self conscious!

OK, please tell us the stats that correlate parents doing the school run in PJs (I should say just mothers, as that is who OP has an issue with), and childhood neglect.

I am waiting.

EconomyClassRockstar · 29/05/2025 22:37

I wouldn't care less if someone was wearing pjs to BREAKFAST in a hotel. That said, if I am eating breakfast in a hotel, I get room service because I'm even lazier than the people going down in their pjs.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 29/05/2025 22:40

Laziness is all it is, that and lack of self respect.

If you don't respect yourself, you won't respect others.

PiggyPigalle · 29/05/2025 22:45

MarketSt · 29/05/2025 21:58

Hotel Breakfast in PJs is the worst of the lot in my books.

Disgusting. Expecting other people to eat near you in your unwashed sleep/sex clothes. Grim. Hotels shouldn’t allow it.

Horrible for kids to be dropped off with parents who couldn’t be bothered too.

If they couldn't be bothered to change, chances are they didn't wash their hands before handling the spoons and bread at the buffet either.

MaidOfSteel · 29/05/2025 22:45

I hate to see people out shopping in their PJs and, very sadly, it seems to be women more often than not. I think it shows a lack of respect, both for themselves and others.

Hoogey · 29/05/2025 22:47

I see full PJs and dressing gowns. Fucking grim! I dont want their unwashed hands over the food. Bleugh

If you actually bothered to read the quotes you would see that I was not making a correlation between people who wear pyjamas in public and child neglect.

My original comment was to reply to a poster who commented "wow" to a comment from another poster who suggested that women who have chaotic lifestyles shouldn't have children.
I then said I agreed that women who have chaotic lifestyles shouldn't have children. I also gave some examples of behaviours which, in combination, could mean the parent was living a chaotic lifestyle. I did not mention the wearing of pyjamas in public as one of those behaviours.

Delphinium20 · 29/05/2025 22:51

I hate eating or preparing food in my PJs. Grease, crumbs, coffee, juice, etc. will get on them. Are these people in hotels putting those same PJs back on at night and sleeping in grubby, possibly food-stained PJs?

Ruh-roh! You've learned my secret!

I have seen pj's and slippers at the gas station, grocery store, school runs, fast food places and have been told about kids going to school wearing flannel pj pants, slippers and a hoodie.

For those who might enjoy this, here's a link you might enjoy. (Makes pjs seem tame)

I have done the school run in pjs when I was on nights and literally had from drop off at school to pick up to sleep, couldn’t wear my work uniform so I would get home from work, shower and put pjs on- drop kids at school (would try to hide pjs under my coat) and then come home and go to bed

lots of shift workers do this

Thisshirtisonfire · 29/05/2025 22:57

I wouldn't do it but nor would I waste my time judging others for it.
You've no idea what's going on with them and out of all the things going on in the world this is what you spend your energy worrying about?
YABU.

I’d rather see people in the supermarket wearing pyjamas than the god awful Dry Robes and wolf fleeces.

My DH earns over £100k a year. Regularly does an entire day’s work in PJs. (Works from home, never needs to be on camera.)

Why the fuck shouldn’t he?

Because it's a bit grim to wear bed clothes during the day...dies he gets up, shower and then get back into his sleep wear?

That's odd.

Dry Robe Wankers.

Taking up the space if about 15 people.

Is being lazy really the worst human trait? I haven't killed anyone, I'm kind, I help others, so what if after finishing work at 3 am, I roll out of bed to take the kids to school to roll back into bed to repeat it all the next night when I start work at 9?

Judge me, go ahead, I'm working, doing my best and don't want to be friends with judgemental people anyway.

It's a pretty bad human trait, yes.

And you're not 'rolling' out of bed or 'rolling' back in, are you?

You're sitting up, getting out of bed and taking your children to school.

It would take less than 2 minutes to take your pyjamas off and put some clothes on.

Then less than 2 minutes to put your pyjamas on again before you climb back into bed.

DogsAngels · 29/05/2025 23:10

I like nothing better than putting clean pjs on for the day. I'm sorry you can't enjoy this life OP

I’ve never seen anyone in PJ’s at a hotel, including dozens of stays in a Premier Inn all across the Uk. I observe it to be a ‘thing’ in certain areas or amongst a certain class of people.
