To think that women (or men) who drop their kids off at school in PJS, go shopping in Tesco in pj's and come down to the breakfast in a hotel in pj's are wrong in the head?

I visited Amsterdam last year and was shocked to see an apparently middle class women coming down to breakfast in her pj's,dressing gown and slippers. Similarly going round Tescos where there are people, especially women in pj's and slippers. No doubt I'll be called an old right wing fascist or something.

I think we both need therapy 😂

It’s hard to explain. I’m not coming from a place of snobbery, I don’t look immaculate every time I go out the door so it isn’t that.

it’s a genuine worry I have that people who wear pjs and slippers outside will traipse remnants of dog poo and other peoples pubes around their house!

But my day clothing and shoes will also traipse dog poo and pubes (??!!) around my house too.

Some of us have basic human standards.

It's a shame that for some posters those standards don't stretch to a modicum of empathy and sensitivity.

I don't think I would describe wearing pjs out and about as disgusting as some have, but is it lazy? Yes. It takes 30 secs tops to put on some sweatpants and hoodie.

Sometimes, I have been in those sweat pants and hoody for days. Not changed at all.

ThereIsACatOnMyLapAgain · 29/05/2025 21:58

I think the women who walk around with big velcro rollers in their hair are attention seeking. Not a quick dash from the hairdressers to the car home because that's understandable. But I see women going shopping with rollers in.

Why would you wear pj’s to Tesco?
That’s just slobby.

I wore PJ bottoms to John Lewis. I'd had my gallbladder out and had nothing that didn't touch the various incisions. Do I care if I was judged? No, I was comfortable

MarketSt · 29/05/2025 21:58

Hotel Breakfast in PJs is the worst of the lot in my books.

Disgusting. Expecting other people to eat near you in your unwashed sleep/sex clothes. Grim. Hotels shouldn’t allow it.

Horrible for kids to be dropped off with parents who couldn’t be bothered too.

I have only seen that once... motorway services in Essex.

But why is empathy needed? No one is forced to wear their pyjamas on the school run. A small handful of people with very chaotic lives or living in poverty or with depression may not be able to afford more than a couple of outfits, yes, but if you're living on the breadline you're not going to be able to buy novelty slippers?

Isn't that to set a hairstyle for later? That's why the women I know wear them out sometimes.

Because, as a PP said, sleepwear has an intimacy that loungewear (I hate that word) doesn't have. Its private.

So wearing it to the shops is a bit like going out in a basque and a suspender belt. It's deliberately taking something private and designed for a small group of people's eyes only and making it performative.

🤣🤣 this is quite the take.

Why are PJs private?

Why is a set of flannel PJs intimate?

Why is someone being covered from neck to ankle akin to wearing a basque and suspenders?

Why would you assume any piece of clothing is performative rather than all that person can manage that day for whatever reason?

And no one on the breadline has ever been given a gift of novelty slippers, or spent a rare bit of spare cash on a pair?

I’ve dropped my dc to school whilst in my pjs but I don’t get out of the car to drop them so no one knows to be fair 😅 If I had to get out of the car i wouldn’t do it…

One of my work colleagues would do this, until one day her car broke down and she had to face roadside assistance in her jammies😂

I personally don't wear knickers under PJs so I see PJ bottoms as being like underwear. I always wonder if the people wearing PJs out don't either. It just seems really dirty to be out in them after sleeping in them.

More fool them if they sit down somewhere and pick up bedbugs in thier fluffy dressing gown

I worked with someone wore basques to work. Now that was inappropriate!

I'm talking about an understanding of people who are brave enough to say that on some days even getting up and outside the door is a monumental struggle. They don't deserve to be shamed for that.

Well if I knew your reason I’d be more empathetic but quite frankly until then yes, I would judge.

Well my love, invest in “indoor clothes” and this will minimise the risk of you snuggling in bed with rogue remnants of faeces.

I don’t mean to pass on my ocd madness but sharing is caring

In an office! She was the IT person and I'm still mentally scarred by the sight of her emerging from under my desk in a basque several sizes too small!

Yes, I know.
This place is a way for people to ait those inside thoughts that should have stayed in their head.
But when you are the target/subject, you can understand why some people get upset, yes?
