To think that women (or men) who drop their kids off at school in PJS, go shopping in Tesco in pj's and come down to the breakfast in a hotel in pj's are wrong in the head?

I visited Amsterdam last year and was shocked to see an apparently middle class women coming down to breakfast in her pj's,dressing gown and slippers. Similarly going round Tescos where there are people, especially women in pj's and slippers. No doubt I'll be called an old right wing fascist or something.

BYW don't buy ready meals for your kids which Mumsnet is advertising.

Yes, you'll probably get flamed but I agree with you. It's absolutely grim behaviour. No one needs full make up and a blow dry if they don't want to, but pull on some clean tracky pants and a hoody or something

ACynicalDad · 29/05/2025 19:27

Yes, I think it sends an awful message to their kids too. Have some dignity.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 29/05/2025 19:28

How does a child feel being dropped off at school by a parent who can't even make an effort to look presentable. Personally, I don't go out unless I have make up on and am wearing jewellery and nice clothes. What's wrong with that?

Where do you live?! I’ve never seen school run or supermarket pjs though I’m with you on the hotel pjs!

YourAmplePlumPoster · 29/05/2025 19:30

How would those kids feel if their teachers turned up dishevelled in their pj's.

I'm just reporting hearsay about the Tesco and school run, though as I said I have seen the pj's in the Amsterdam Hotel. Another hotel I visited recently had a sign saying, please come to the breakfast area suitably attired. I would feel embarrassed to go out wearing my pjs 🙃

I came out of sainsburys tonight at 5.30pm and two women where walking into the supermarket in full pjs and slippers!!

They should be stopped at the door until they come back dressed!

YourAmplePlumPoster · 29/05/2025 19:36

When i lived in Spain for a while, all the ladies dressed up to go shopping. It suggests a pride in one's appearance that we seem to have lost.

Yep, agree with others who say it's grim. People food shopping in clothes they've obviously slept in 😷

CandyLeBonBon · 29/05/2025 19:36

You’re comparing two different scenarios! Lots of people in hotels go to breakfast in their pjs! I don’t, but to each their own. Not really comparable to the school run or Tesco!

Orangemintcream · 29/05/2025 19:37

It’s slovenly behaviour.

Just because people do it doesn’t mean it’s ok.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/05/2025 19:37

I don't care what strangers wear to the shops etc. If someone was in a thong only or had horrific BO then that's another story.
But as long as someone's clothed it's none of anyone else's concern.

But yeah, the ready meals look shite. I don't agree with them using their brand to sell naff food products. Everyone must assume they're from the same factory as Lidl etc and the people that make them are on min wage or zero hrs contracts or both and could barely feed their families by working in the factory.

Weirdwalk · 29/05/2025 19:39

Absolute slobs. Lazy and no self respect.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 29/05/2025 19:41

I was at a premier inn once, came down (dressed) for breakfast. There was some sort of school/young persons’ trip with teenagers and leaders/teachers. 20-30 of them.
all of them were in pjs, none of them were self aware they just stood in the way, blocking access to the food, loud behaviour, generally rude and inconsiderate. It made it worse having to keep getting past slightly sweaty bed headed people. It wasn’t early, it was around 9am. It takes - what - 2 minutes to replace pjs with day clothes, maybe 15 minutes if you include a quick shower?

Make up is a personal choice and IMHO a waste of time and money that the beauty industry has sold to some women. Going out in pajamas is just slovenly.

Longtimeloiterer · 29/05/2025 19:43

It's ignorant really wearing bed clothes outdoors and laziness for breakfast in a hotel.

Zanatdy · 29/05/2025 19:44

I just don’t understand it. Height of laziness when it takes 30 seconds to put some trousers on and zip a coat around your top half.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 29/05/2025 19:47

Seems to be a lot of lazy parenting around. I wonder what dress codes they have in schools these days. I haven't been in teaching for a long time but I would say if you're sloppily dressed it sends a message to the children that you don't care about them. My students used to compliment me on my clothes and jewellery.

Do men have to wear make up and jewellery too?

MoominMai · 29/05/2025 19:48

I quite like the idea of coming down to breakfast in a hotel wearing a lovely pair of PJs and a dressing gown. I think it would look cosy to just see people shuffling around sleepily munching on toast and sipping coffee. I usually get dressed as normal but will have my slippers on as I just can’t stand to have shoes on so early and especially when I’m having brekky - it’s so wrong to me! 😅

I am older and don't understand people who won't get dressed once they get out of bed.

I think it is lazy. It doesn't take long to throw on a few clothes.

I won't go as far as putting on make up, posh clothes and jewellery unless I am going to work, but I am blessed with good skin and dark eyes, lashes and brows anyway.

That’s your choice, but make up and jewellery are certainly not needed to look presentable

itsbeenalongnight · 29/05/2025 19:51

I saw a family go to breakfast in PJs at a quality hotel in Manchester. It was so horrid. Vile. Ugh

MiracleCures · 29/05/2025 19:52

I agree with you re the Hotel though. Surely if you don't want to get dressed then you order breakfast as room service?
