Why don’t people talk about chart songs any more ?

Too old to care. IMO music stopped being any good after 1985.🤣

5foot5 · 28/05/2025 22:13

I haven't known what the UK No 1 song is for years. Decades probably.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 28/05/2025 22:13

I don't actually 😄

but I think I could guess - maybe a song by Lorde?

its all about viral sounds these days I guess, which is a shame

Justchillinhere · 28/05/2025 22:14

My music interests stopped in the 80s

Electricbananaboat · 28/05/2025 22:14

Have no idea, but remembered the other day that Mr Blobby had a number 1.

Not it’s Alex Warren ‘Ordinary’

No idea. Do they still do the charts on the radio?!

PollyCreo · 28/05/2025 22:15

Is it Erasure or The Pet Shop Boys?

Yes. Probably still Alex Warren, "Ordinary". It does my head in, been number one for weeks.
I'm in my 50's and still listen to the charts and R1.

😄 33 and listen to radio 1

and complain about how its too geared towards kids whilst refusing to go to radio 2

RaininSummer · 28/05/2025 22:21

Do people actually buy 'singles' now in whatever format is the current thing?

KrisAkabusi · 28/05/2025 22:39

Charts dont matter because we can all listen to whatever music we want, all the time. We're not restricted to whatever is being pushed by music companies to radio stations, or the limited variety of genres in a record shop. We dont have to listen to chart shows or watch top of the pops to hear singles, we top at our phones.

I bet people don't sit there taping, them and trying to miss out when the song stops and the DJ chats crap ,anymore?

TheDandyLion · 28/05/2025 23:21

Does Dr.Fox still do the top 40 countdown?

nam3c4ang3 · 28/05/2025 23:22

I actually Like Alex Warren - his voice is distinctive and he has some good songs.

Gardeninging · 28/05/2025 23:26

We all know the top 40 is rigged.
Actually the downloads chart is rigged too because it's cheaper to rig.

I listen to folk music! Don't care about the latest capitalist.

TwistedWonder · 28/05/2025 23:34

Don’t have a clue.. I constantly seek out new music but my genres are house/soul/dance so the charts haven’t entered my radar since about 1990

DelphiniumBlue · 28/05/2025 23:38

No, I don't know what's number 1, not since Top of the Pops was taken off air!
I know which songs are popular because I hear children at school singing them, but can't bear to listen to Radio 1 with its inane drivel between tracks.
I actually wish there was a way to hear current music more easily - my DC all listen with headphones on, so I don't get to hear what they are playing, although they will send me playlists on request! But a lot of what they listen to was old when I was teenager! (Steely Dan and the like!)

Firefly1987 · 28/05/2025 23:40

I probably have never heard of 90% of musicians in the charts-including the current no 1 apparently. I just have no interest in new music, haven't listened to the charts since around 2018! As an aside I'm sick of solo artists monopolising everything, where are the bands?!

Me too.

We listen every week with DC. DH thinks we're weird.

I listen to Radio 1 so i can keep up with my kids.

Love the latest Lorde one.

LadyGAgain · 28/05/2025 23:41

Is it still Ordinary? Love this song. So much better than the breathless sounding teen vibe (appreciate I’m not their target market)
