I was having blood test yesterday and the phlebotomist said I had excellent veins. I’m not sure what makes veins excellent, but I was glad to hear it!

What’s the most random compliment you’ve ever received?

A colleague said "now I'm not saying that you normally look like a dog, but I was surprised at how well you scrubbed up" - wasn't entirely sure how to take that but the colleague was a really lovely guy so I'm guessing that it was a compliment 🤣

MrsHamlet · 28/05/2025 22:17

Oh I've just remembered one.

About 8am one morning in Birmingham, a drunk homeless man told me I looked "moity foine".

Reallyyyyyy · 28/05/2025 22:18

My BIL said i was like a man the other week. Dh was away and I had all 4 kids alone. Small scale farm and our joint 4 small businesses to deal with... I pointed out this was my day everyday whether dh was here or not and I enjoy all of it. Dh isn't home much as he's the face of the businesses whereas I am admin side. I also do minor admin for BILs business too. So he knows I do all this every day.

Im not like a man. Im as woman as you can get! Not many men can multi task to our standards!! He said its a compliment as I am strong. I said i blood well am. If anything women are stronger than men I more than one way!

YorkshireWelsh · 28/05/2025 22:19

That I look like Reese Witherspoon.

I wish I could see it 🤣

NatWestPigFamily · 28/05/2025 22:20

I held a patient’s hand during a local anaesthetic procedure and spoke to him to keep him calm. When we saw him in clinic a few weeks later, he said I “was better than a general anaesthetic”.

A not so nice one was when I was 16 on a London tube alone. 2 men got on who were probably late 20’s. One kept saying I had “come fuck me eyes”.

Ohsonotscrumptiois · 28/05/2025 22:21

You’ve got the body of a twenty year old. My chiropractor yesterday. Im sixty this year.

was too stunned to ask whether he was actually serious. Feeling quite smug so I’ll just take it. lol.

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2025 22:21

When I was getting my braces fitted as a teenager, the orthodontist told me I had very nice arches. I liked that.

I oncce got told I'm beautiful by a much younger colleague who for some reason known only to himself had a bit of an obvious crush on me. That was a bit weird; I'm definitely not beautiful but it did put a spring in my step.

NorthernChinchilla · 28/05/2025 22:28

When I was, through the nature of my job, talking on the phone with (another) person whose house was being raided by the police- real time- and managed to get all the salient details and calm everything down...
"If we ever have a nuclear apocalypse and the end of the world is coming, I want Northern Chinchilla on the end of the phone talking me through it"

Ineedanewsofa · 28/05/2025 22:36
  1. Got told I looked like Drew Barrimore when I was 17 (I did not, suspect the chap had ulterior motives)
  2. Friend’s brother described me as a “nice and sturdy”
  3. Friend’s toddler said she loves cuddling me because I’m “warm and squishy”
Mugcake · 28/05/2025 22:41

You have nice skin (said by a stranger in a shop)

Your eyes take up half your face (???)

You look like a white walker (GOT reference, they insisted it was a compliment but if you've seen a white walker you'll know it definitely isn't haha)

My favourite was said by a midwife after I'd given a urine sample
"WOW! Look how hydrated you are!" 😂

SaintNoMountainHighEnough · 28/05/2025 22:42

The look on the face of the bar tender who ID'd me when I was 34 is the greatest compliment i've ever had.

Now 41, that was the last time.

Flamingoknees · 28/05/2025 22:44

" You could be Engelburt Humperdinck's daughter" said by an elderly patient, in the 80's. She considered it a great compliment 🤣🤣

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/05/2025 22:52

‘You have a lovely complexion in between your spots’ during a facial at a health farm.

StMarie4me · 28/05/2025 22:53

“You have lovely muscly calves”

AmyDudley · 28/05/2025 22:54

'You have eyes like a special cat' said to me by a hairdresser. I think it was supposed to be a compliment, my children still sometimes refer to me as a special cat Grin

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/05/2025 22:55

At 17 my driving instructor said that drove like a bloke, which I took as a compliment. I still do 50 years later!

Marchitectmummy · 28/05/2025 23:01

While reading a book on a bus an older man came over to tell me I had the perfect posture when reading and asked who taught me to sit correctly. He went into a fair amount of detail about the topic

Sideshowbobhair · 28/05/2025 23:08

In my early twenties I went out with a guy who's whole family were olive skinned/dark haired.
In comparison, I'm very pale with strawberry blond hair. Sat with his family for Sunday lunch, his Mum pipes up that it was lovely to have someone there with different colouring as I was just like 'one of those lovely golden cocker spaniels.'

neilyoungismyhero · 28/05/2025 23:10

I was once told by an employee his mum had complimented me on my nice speaking voice.

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 28/05/2025 23:20

I have to go for a blood test and a swab tomorrow, I don't know whether to feel special or normal now if I'm told I have lovely veins/cervix (or disappointed if nothing is mentioned!)

CoubousAndTourmalet · 28/05/2025 23:27

Being told by a Greek homoeopathic doctor when I was about 35, "you really don't have a modern face at all, you have a very classical look..."

JaneJeffer · 28/05/2025 23:30

I have beautiful ovaries apparently (although I think they are probably all shrivelled up now Sad)

mrlistersgelfbride · 28/05/2025 23:31

In a yoga class ..."you have very open hips, come up and show the rest of the group" 😳

IcyPlumOtter · 28/05/2025 23:32

At a medical examine for a new job in outback Australia...

Handsome Indian Doctor: You will not fit in around here.
Me: Why?
Dr: You're slender and well dressed.

FrodoBiggins · 28/05/2025 23:36

A really sweet, really old lady, on a train in France the other week said I was "très petite mais très forte!" (and then clapped her hands together ha!) I'm neither particularly small nor strong but must have impressed her by ragging her suitcase down those perilous double decker train stairs because I thought it she did it herself we may witness a tumble.
