To want to know why Imogen Poots broke up with James Norton

Obviously absolutely none of my business, but I don’t think anyone in my real life knows who these people are, so I’m sharing it here in case anyone shares my mini obsession.

Imogen Poots is a gorgeous 35 year old British actress who was engaged to James Norton (I’m guessing I don’t need to explain here who he is), they broke up in the last year or so and he’s indicated in interviews that it wasn’t his choice.

She’s suggested in past interviews that she wants children (which JN has also said he does). Definitely none of my business - but honestly if you were a 35 year old woman who wants kids and you were engaged to JAMES NORTON, would you break up with him?

I know AIBU.

Yep, type 1 diabetes - he says he injects himself upto 15 times a day with insulin and it runs in his family. Also he says in this interview he’s a terrible hypochondriac - my closest friend is one and I’d go mad living with her. I think he’s also religious or has more than a keen interest in religion (you’d have to be to study theology and he has admitted it) whereas I don’t think Imogen Poots is. Not agreeing on religion would be a deal breaker for most people.

They’d been together for years though, so she must have known about these things for a while. I don’t think he’s particularly practising religious from what he’s said in interviews.

I’ve heard he’s not very nice 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is really not true. I have worked with this man and he is genuinely delightful and unfailingly polite and kind.

Kind and intelligent is what comes across in interviews, though as I say I know they’re curated and won’t be the whole story. A few posters above who’ve apparently met him have also said they found him kind. Re intelligence also, he went to Cambridge. I may be wrong in my impression but I’m not just basing it on the fact that he’s good looking!

Imogen also comes across in interviews as very intelligent and thoughtful.

Edited

He studied theology at Cambridge with a focus on Hinduism and Buddhism apparently which doesn’t require great intelligence tbf.

Flyswats · 27/05/2025 22:44

I don't know if he's nice or not. But I heard that back in the Cambridge days, he played for the other team 100%. I have no proof and it's entirely his business and I don't care, and he's welcome to swap it about if that makes life better IMHO

100% this. I have heard this from everyone who has ever met him. From colleagues and producers etc, to fans. Always polite and lovely.

He may be different to date. By his own admission he is quite hard work. (I would still like to find out myself though haha. LOL. 😊)

thatsalad · 27/05/2025 22:46

What did he say in interviews that made it seem splitting up wasn't his choice?

RedBeech · 27/05/2025 22:47

Not rtft so sorry if this is a repeat but I read an interview with him where he said he was completely obsessed with his role in A Little Life, and realised in retrospect he must gave been quite hard to live with and that like so many actors, work endlessly took them away from each other. He sounded like he regretted it.

boxset · 27/05/2025 22:47

I think the little life play brought up past trauma and it was such an intense play - if you’ve seen it you’ll have been traumatised just watching. And I think his run put him into a dark place. Also doing that and having to manage type 1 diabetes. I suspect there wasn’t alot left for a relationship

How on earth could you possibly know this? What a thoroughly mean spirited comment. Hmm

When you say 'it apparently doesn't require great intelligence' you actually mean 'in my opinion it probably doesn't take a lot of great intelligence.'

Truth be told you know nothing about this degree.

They were only together 5 years and she was in the US for most of it doing long distance. Maybe spending time together more made her realise how difficult it was. I was long distance with someone for 2 years, he came back, we lived together and I broke up with him within 6 months because domestic life had no place to hide the annoying habits I had glossed over. In long distance you’re always showing your best side when you do see each other. Also the things you tolerate when young suddenly become a problem when you put them in the context of family and children.

Irony is clearly not your strong point.

HRTQueen · 27/05/2025 22:52

That lilac cardi was an instant ick moment for me

I am sure his ex felt the same. She obviously tried but after what a year or so she just couldn’t any longer put it to the back of her mind

SweetSound · 27/05/2025 22:55

He thinks men can be women, so he’s clearly more than a bit dim. I find men that are willing to give away women’s rights very unattractive. They tend not to be very nice deep down.

BreezyBertha · 27/05/2025 22:56

I must say there are some horrible posts on this thread, bordering on defamatory.

The guy has a serious medical condition which affects every aspect of his life, (which as a parent of fellow sufferer can be a waking nightmare sometimes), including relationships and professionally I should imagine, but he’s obviously worked hard to become successful despite it, and I’ve never heard anything bad about him so leave him the fuck alone!

itiswhatitishey · 27/05/2025 23:00

I get the feeling he’s a bit vanilla in bed

His education is in his Wiki. No it is class-ist and snobbery to assume intelligence because someone went to university. Cambridge has a running joke about people who did Land Economics not being ‘ as intelligent’ because of the low entrance criteria attracting people who want a Cambridge degree but couldn’t get into the others. There is a similar judgement about the History of Art degree. Also there’s millions of people who critically study theology at seminary - and a largely uneducated and illiterate population can follow along the teachings of Buddhism and Hinduism - that’s the point of theology, that absolutely everyone can access it! It doesn’t require intelligence. Only a wealthy and privileged person would pay money to learn it and get a degree out of it - to evidence achievement and apparently intelligence.

Well if you knew anything about T1D, before casting aspersions on someone who has it, you’d know it can affect your sex life especially in men, but carry on mocking.

Weird take. Why does studying major world religions that have influenced the behaviour of millions of people for thousands of years require less intelligence than anything else?

Am sure I read that he wanted to settle down and she didn't. And to the poster who said they heard he isn't very nice. Honestly am sure that's rubbish! I get the impression he is lovely irl. Also he is diabetic little non fact

His great- grandfather was an Archdeacon. Maybe that’s where his interest came from, family. He graduated with first class honours from Cambridge which does suggest some intelligence no?

Try reading this thread when the James you’re thinking of is Nesbitt-it’s quite confusing.

Isn't Land Economics for rowers?

I don’t think a theology degree at Cambridge involves ‘following along the teachings of Buddhism and Hinduism’.
