To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

Oh I know! But I have nothing to update. I wish I did! I await the police to get in touch again.

I have an update.

The police have been in touch asking me to go to the station to make a statement and if I am prepared to be a witness in court.

Oh lord this has spiralled. I’m horrified!

Thanks for the update. None of this is your fault, OP.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2025 15:09

I know but she must be worried sick. I think that’s punishment enough.

Im quietly impressed at the police officer who is chasing this up though.

You’re being too charitable. She straight up lied about having your parcel. I’m glad her behaviour is having consequences.

YourPerfectCousin · 25/07/2025 15:15

But all she had to do was not steal the parcel and to hand it over when you knocked on your the door.

I'm astonished the police are going so far but perhaps she's got form. Or really pissed off the PC.

mindutopia · 25/07/2025 15:17

That’s quite an impressive response. Dd was harassed by the father of a child at school (like actual threats in writing sent to her mobile from the dad) because she was a witness to an attack by his son on another child. And the police did F all other than make a note of my report. 😂

It’s astonishing isn’t it? im absolutely amazed by it. I can only think that the town I used to live in is even duller than I thought!

I'm impressed by the police here.

It might be a minor crime but it's still a crime.

Go make your statement.

LittleBitofBread · 25/07/2025 15:24

Maybe there’s been a lot of parcel crime and they decided this was the last straw and to make an example of her.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2025 15:24

I’m going to ponder it and consult with friends.

i think the pc investigating this needs some kind of medal or commendation!

Ok, my field of expertise.
You need to contact Sports Direct and let them know what has happened.
They will then ask the courier to raise an investigation.
Nothing may come of it as it was sent to the address you requested and the delivery seems compliant.
SD may replace the parcel as a gesture of good will.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 21:20

Just to reassure the still relatively sane people on this thread, I have no intention of reporting to SS (though who the hell lets their kids answer the door like this? Madness!)

my only intention is indeed to just let it go though dp and I have has a great laugh in the pub tonight, inventing small, petty but annoying ways that we hope karma will visit these CFs.

Maybe go through any accounts that you orfer from online and delete or update your address😃

I remember reading your thread OP. Maybe there have been other issues with this lady that the police are privy to and that’s why they’re moving forward with it. But they won’t tell you that. Otherwise yeah they’re pretty impressive!

There was an item on the news last week. Apparently it is happening so often that the police have decided to take it seriously.

Your insistence that something be done will most likely open the door for many others.

It could be that your evidence allowed them to bring a case forward, even if you didn't think it was enough.

Proof that it is almost out of control is that now, if possible, couriers take a photo of the handover, even if it takes longer to deliver. If it wasn't a serious issue, they would not go to those lengths.

MatildaTheCat · 25/07/2025 16:20

@BitOutOfPractice I once had a parcel stolen from my porch and was able to get the number plate of the driver. The police knew of these individuals and took the opportunity to visit them with a search warrant and take them in for questioning. My parcel certainly didn’t warrant this level of activity but they were pleased to have a reason to visit.

Perhaps your own thief has form for her light fingers?

Balloonhearts · 25/07/2025 16:21

Cheeky bitch! Also impressed that police responded.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2025 16:21

The pc did say that it was tampering with the post as well as theft but I thought that only referred to Royal Mail 🤷‍♀️

SENNeeds2 · 25/07/2025 16:23

I would post photo on that nextdoor neigh bough app or local facebook asking if anyone recognized the doorstep ... might shame her to look harder for the box.

Mindyourfunkybusiness · 25/07/2025 16:27

This is absolutely hilarious 😂 I'm rooting for you op, I dislike people like them too. I'm all for teaching lessons - I'd be going as far as you are. Also agree on not taking to court, you've fantastically outsourced the leg work to the police 😭

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2025 16:29

Why do something yourself when there’s someone else to do it? 😉

Honestly I never imagined for one second it’d go this far. I bet she didn’t either!

OP posts:
HotCrossBunplease · 25/07/2025 16:37

That’s quite an update @BitOutOfPractice !

Given that people have noted that it might be a bit of an initiative to take this sort of thing more seriously, is there a downside to continuing to co-operate?

If this is part of a new crackdown then the police will want to publicise any conviction otherwise I can’t see it having much deterrent effect.

Obviously you will have to give up some time, but it’s a fairly simple factual statement. As far as giving evidence in court is concerned, I think there might be an intermediate step which is that your written statement gets shown to the defence and might be enough to elicit a guilty plea.

If it were to end up in a trial, though, there is a risk that the publicity/local talk might make you look a bit petty since the package was only a pair of cheap leggings. The police would have been better off choosing theft of a high value item as their test case.

This is regardless of whether or not she is convicted but you’d have even more egg on your face if she was not.

For the avoidance of doubt, I understand completely why you did not let it slide and would disagree with any critics.

It’s a tricky one. Could you maybe ask the police what they hope to achieve?

Also (apologies if I missed an update) did you get a refund or replacement from SD?)

Don't feel sorry for her. She's a scuzzy thief AND she painted the front door a horrible colour.
