To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

Yes @FeralWoman. From memory someone had bought an old house, found a very old looking safe in the loft. There were plenty of shenanigans trying to get it open, much speculation about the contents, then the op disappeared never to reveal the dénouement.

And honestly the legal eagles on this thread are wasting their…erm…clicks because I’m not reading, have no intention of taking any legal action and am leaving it now in the lap of the gods and Essex’s finest constabulary.

My dear, the police are able to take action BECAUSE it's against the law.........

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 31/05/2025 20:01

@BitOutOfPractice get one of those revenge parcels of glitter sent to you at her address!! or a box of dog shit!!

BitOutOfPractice · 31/05/2025 20:02

My dear? Really? I think you’ve taken this far too and more seriously than me 🙄

So I’ve heard that they have “attended” and it is “progressing”. No idea what that means.

How exciting!

Update: police have just emailed asking for more details. Order number, courier tracking information etc. I honestly didn’t think that the police would take it down seriously. I feel bad now!

I don't think you should feel bad - the woman lied and she is a brazen thief who thinks she's got away with it.

..I haven't used the word 'brazen' for years!

jljlj · 12/06/2025 19:03

You shouldn’t feel bad op. The thief should feel bad.

mutinyonthetwix · 12/06/2025 19:09

Honestly having seen the police basically acting as a crime reference number distribution service when it comes to theft for many years it's actually kind of heartening to see them actually bothering.

I am genuinely amazed at them doing anything at all to be honest.

They will act when there is direct evidence as in this case

It's usually 'brazen hussy'

NiceCoincidence · 14/06/2025 21:23

She could well of rejected it, I've had it before where the delivery man took a photo of my parcel inside the neighbours doorway, went round to get it, she said she'd rejected it, contacted the delivery company and the driver had taken the delivery back and delivered it to my address the next day

certainly the words are sometimes used together, but brazen means 'bold and without shame', originally meaning 'made of brass', so I think there's a lot of words that could be put with it.

That's as should be. It could be why the police have taken more notice.

The police are doing their job, they aren't doing anyhing wromg either.
