To think this is not acceptable for a “breakfast bundle” at Airbnb?

Me and DP went away for a night away and picked to stay at an Airbnb on Saturday night. We checked in about 3 and had to leave at 9 on Sunday. It was expensive (around £150 for the night) but it was a nice place. The owner messaged me before we got there and asked if we would like to add on a breakfast box each. Sounded like a nice way to refuel for another day of walking so I said yes. A request was sent for £20, which seemed okay for a breakfast for 2.

When I got there, there was 2 buns from Aldi, a tin of beans from Aldi, 2 bacon rashers in the packet, 2 sausages and 2 hash browns, and 10 cherry tomatoes. It was in a plastic tub in the fridge.

I am not a complainer at all. I really don’t want to complain, but I really don’t think this is justified. Aibu?

I also say I wouldn't expect stuff I had to cook in it. I stayed in a place in Chester and they left us those mini jam jars, croissants, nice fresh orange, some posh muesli and a loaf for a lot less than that.

goldtaps · 26/05/2025 14:39

I don’t know why you’d say yes to paying for something where you didn’t know what you were paying for?!

Scottsleeping · 26/05/2025 14:18

I was expecting a nice breakfast, not something I could have picked up from the Aldi that was a 2 minute drive from the house. As others have said, we could have got a cooked breakfast for around the same price at a cafe and have no preparing or clearing up to do

Yes, which is why I really don't understand why you didn't ask what you would be getting for your £20. An airbnb was never going to cook you breakfast. You paid for the food to be there, I guess. 9am checkout is ridiculous anyway.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/05/2025 14:39

I think you should say in your review the breakfast isn't good value. I just stayed in my first airbnb where they offered coffee and pastries for £5, very clear what was included. We didn't take them up as I cant have a sweet breakfast but thought it was a nice offer.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/05/2025 14:40

oh and 11am check out, 9am on a sunday is awful!

MyCyanReader · 26/05/2025 14:40

Scottsleeping · 26/05/2025 14:19

the owner said “it’s an amazing deal, you’ll have plenty to take home with you”

???? The portions were tiny!

An amazing deal?!?! They're taking the piss!

I'd eat that for ONE person!

I'd message them about it! "Hi, I'm a little confused about the breakfast. It was £20 and you referred to it as an amazing deal and plenty to take home, but wasn't even enough for one person, and I could have bought that myself from Aldi for half the price and the entire full packets".

MoreChocPls · 26/05/2025 14:41

Did you complain? I would have!

LittleBitofBread · 26/05/2025 14:45

Bumblebeestiltskin · 26/05/2025 14:00

I would have asked what was included before saying yes and paying, personally.

Yes, this. Caveat emptor, I'm afraid.

SlightlyFurther · 26/05/2025 14:15

What were you expecting, though? I’d have gone out for breakfast, or you had the option to bring it from home, so I suppose you’re paying for convenience. But I would definitely have asked exactly what my £20 got me.

I mean if you are going to fleece people like that then at least make the effort to perhaps wrap in brown paper and tie with string giving the illusion it’s from the local butcher and not the cheapest supermarket they could find.

OP - agree to factually mention this in a review including exactly what £20 gave you.

IberianBird · 26/05/2025 14:46

Did you ask what was included in the box or just say yes?

Ihopeyouhavent · 26/05/2025 14:47

Why does it matter that it was from Aldi?

PinkiOcelot · 26/05/2025 14:47

I would complain about that. Amazing deal, loads to take home? Who did she think you were? The borrowers?

Have you complained?

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 26/05/2025 14:47

Leave a review advising people that the £20 breakfast bundle is from Aldi and not worth the price. They can buy a better value bundle themselves.

Wow! They are piss takers 😳

spoonbillstretford · 26/05/2025 14:49

I think with a 9am checkout they should be giving you £20 to go and get a breakfast from a cafe.

orangedream · 26/05/2025 14:50

I wouldn't be bothered cooking a breakfast myself that was probably low quality ingredients. You should have checked what was included though.

AndImBrit · 26/05/2025 14:50

faerietales · 26/05/2025 14:34

OP says the ALDI was round the corner.

From the rental, not from where the landlord or person who went to Aldi is?

Lolabear38 · 26/05/2025 14:50

Not that it really matters, but can you clarify if you had to leave at 9am because of your own plans or because that was the checkout time? Only because to some people it seems to be adding insult to injury.

If it was because of your own plans you would have obviously known this anyway. If official checkout time was 9 am this would have been somewhere in the information you received before checking in though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Barbiewhirl · 26/05/2025 14:51

The fact they implied there was loads when clearly there wasn't is cheeky, I suppose you've learnt to ask what your money will get you. To me a breakfast box sounds like it'd have a few teabags, small milk, croissants/pastries or similar and something else for a tenner each!

whitewineandsun · 26/05/2025 14:51

spoonbillstretford · 26/05/2025 14:49

Ha, agree. The 9am checkout would have meant I didn't book. Ridiculous.

faerietales · 26/05/2025 14:53

AndImBrit · 26/05/2025 14:50

From the rental, not from where the landlord or person who went to Aldi is?

Well, they would have to come to the rental anyway to clean and prepare, so it's hardly an arduous trek!

Noshowlomo · 26/05/2025 14:56

Needed to double that and include pastries for that price

coxesorangepippin · 26/05/2025 14:56

Another reason not to air b n b

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 26/05/2025 14:57

It matters it was from Aldi because the disparity between the value and quality (plus cooking and cleaning up time) of the produce and the money charged is so huge. Leaving it in its wrapper only emphasises this

Assssofspades · 26/05/2025 14:58

I've had similar and would expect pastries, fruit, yoghurt, jam etc Maybe some nice cheese.
