Air fryers. I don't understand. I have an oven, the food is lovely. I don't have to wash it everytime I use it. I don't need to find work top or cupboard space for it.

I'm happy to be convinced otherwise but no one has been able to really explain the advantages to me so far!

Cost of cheap oven: £109.
Cost of standard electric oven installation: £150
Cost of removal of old electric oven and disposal: £150
Cost of tearing out half of kitchen, rerouting the gas pipe to the hob, moving the sink, rewiring the kitchen, moving the dishwasher installation and plumbing, replacing the kitchen units and worktops and then maybe having a space that will allow a new electric oven to be legally installed if they don't refuse and disconnect the hob because of changes in electrical installations in kitchens: priceless.

Cost of Ninja plonked on the countertop on Amazon Prime Day: £169

Add in no more burns on DP's arm, no bending, lower electricity bill, being able to automatically sync things to finish cooking at the same time, no forgetting about stuff and burning it and things actually cooking straight away rather than having to heat the oven up for two portions of food and it paid for itself within a couple of weeks.

Dubai chocolate...unless I've only had crappy stuff. Its horrible

The key to enjoying bubble tea, I find, is actually not getting the bubbles!

I know, I know- surely then it's not bubble tea? But even if you don't like the bubbles then "bubble tea" shops offer a huge array of flavours and variations of iced tea. My friends and I all have vastly different orders, and we always pop in to a bubble tea place if we're in the city because we can all get what we prefer in one place. Personally I love to order some variety of green tea- peach, lychee, or mango most often- with full ice and minimal sugar. It's so incredibly refreshing in the summer! All that is to say, that a lot of the people you see hopping on the "bubble tea" trend may well be enjoying a normal iced tea 😅

(I do actually like some of the toppings, but not the traditional tapioca pearls people associate with bubble tea. Popping boba is alright but can be a bit too sweet, whereas green tea jelly or aloe are my favourite. Often I go without toppings altogether, though)

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

Sorry to hear about your oven issues and burns on arm!

I don't have any of those specific issues though! I love the idea of an air fryer, I'm trying to talk myself into one but no luck yet.

I half suspect they'll all be forgotten about on 5 years but I'm happy to be proved wrong!

Bubble tea, is it still a thing?

DD bought me a bubble tea recently and it was quite nice! Not sure why it's called tea though. It's just like fruity squash with nice little bubbles in.

Ugh hate the stuff. Smell’s worse than the arse of the pig nosing it out.

My FIL lives in France and brings my H back truffles. They absolutely stink. I make him keep them in Tupperwares in his car boot as they stink out the fridge

PonyPatter44 · 23/05/2025 22:50

I really like proper hotdogs on brioche buns. I'll get my coat...

Vybrator I had no intention of being rude. It’s just that I see that word wrongly spelt everywhere. “Devine” doesn’t even look right.

I'm right behind you...I'd already put myself in the naughty corner for my love of both burgers and hotdogs in brioche.

Beer!

MySweetGeorgina · 23/05/2025 22:57

Why would anyone pretend to love any food? That is such a weird off thinking. People just like different things!

i love chewy hard sourdough! I crave hard chewy food

i love bitter food too, so Aperol , and Matcha, to me grass-taste is a nice thing🙂

i like bubble tea too, especially matcha bubble tea with chewy tapioca pearls

echt · 23/05/2025 22:59

How can anyone pretend to like something they put in their mouth?

RabbitsRock · 23/05/2025 23:01

Producing loads of different flavours for things instead of sticking to the original & very often the best eg baked beans

I'm dubious about the love of cottage cheese on social media.

I've loved cottage cheese since being a child, I didn't know it was a social media trend..is it because of the high protein?

I love cottage cheese. Lidl do a full fat one which is delicious. I add mango or chopped salad ( pepper, cucumber etc).
The best cottage cheese is Longley Farm and possibly the reason I love cottage cheese. It was our local dairy growing up in the 70s so all our milk and dairy products were from there.
I now live 100s of miles away but our local farm shop stocks Longley Farm. I bought some cream freche yesterday. I can eat it straight from the pot.
It’s no longer popular but it is an acquired taste.
I went for lunch yesterday at a friends house. She is really into food fads and is currently doing the 30 foods diet. So we had an eclectic salad. Apparently it’s good for your gut although slightly confusing for the palate.

Longley Farm cottage cheese is so delicious but not the fat free one!

Hummus pizza. Salted caramel ice cream. Both vile. Its as if there was a mistake in processing and someone with no functioning taste buds tried to spin this as a good idea instead of admitting to the mistake.

wtf is hummus pizza?!

I love hummus
I Love pizza
but not together

I had no idea cottage cheese was a trend. My gut feeling is that I don’t like it. This is entirely formed from my mum and every friend’s mum I knew compulsively (and very miserably) eating on ryvita in the early 80s as part of Weightwatchers 😆. No such thing as a new trend!

Maybe this is another food I need to try that the early 80s ruined, but made and served well are actually quite nice?

Shitmonger · 23/05/2025 23:12

Where are people finding hard sourdough? I’ve only ever had very soft sourdough that practically melts in your mouth. Though to be fair I’ve mostly eaten it in California, where it originated.

RabbitsRock · 23/05/2025 23:13

Feel the need to defend avocados! Love avocado on toast especially.

TheAmusedQuail · 23/05/2025 23:17

Definitely Dubai chocolate. Urgh.

Gin. Although I can just about tolerate a pink gin.

Avocado on toast. Makes the toast soggy.

Muffins. Too dry.

Cheesy chips. The cheese ruins the chips.

McDonald's. The food is vile.

Pizza. It's literally bread and melted cheese.

What! Coconut milk is amazing!

I'm guessing you have never had coconut water. It's not "coconut milk" and it's not "coconut cream". It's sold as a health beverage for wankers, and it's minging.

The crust. Toasted.
