Have the school done the right thing even though it punishes the wrong set of people ?

DC is in year 6 and as I am sure everyone with a child in the same year is aware the leavers celebrations are in full swing.
The leavers hoodies were organised by the class parent rep.
The hoodies were handed out a while ago and the children have been proudly wearing them 2 days a week in school and were due to wear them for their residential.
unfortunately the Rep has purposely left 1 child without a hoody and also did not include their name on everyone else’s hoody.
I am not sure why it has only been bought to the attention of the school now, but they sent an email basically saying due to one child’s name not being on the hoody they are now banned from being worn on the school premises. Some very angry parents who think the school are punishing the children for something not in their control.
I am not sure what else the school could of done ? I believe they made the right decision but I seem to be the minority!

I recently saw a group of teenagers who had signed their school blouses /shirts in the case of the boys. Do the children have enough time to do something similar I wonder.

shiningstar2 · 23/05/2025 21:01

This is horrendous for the child left out . .something he won't forget his whole life long. A terrible end to his primary school experience and will also probably impact badly on his start to secondary school. Whatever his parent may or may not have done the child should have received a hoodie and his name should never have been left off. How could anybody take this level of spite on a child
Of course the school can't have the other children roaming around the school in this hoodie, rubbing the left out child's exclusion in. I'm surprised the year 6 teachers were not asked to check the order for their class before it went in but this horrendous act is entirely the fault of the spiteful adult concerned. The only other alternative to forbidding the hoodies in school would have been for the school to reorder the hoodies with the extra child's name on our of school funds, collecting the other ones in so no child could use the first hoodie over the summer to potentially rub the horrible spite in to the left out child. As a retired member of a school senior leadership team that's what I would have suggested.
Of course schools are really strapped for cash I know. Ideally this should have been noticed and new hoodies ordered before the first hoodies were handed out

If this isn't,t happening, of course the other kids can't wear the hoodies and I would hope that the majority of parents would support the school; n this. Hopefully most parents would explain to the disappointment year 6's that this is not a punishment for them ..it is care and proper concern for one of their own due to the terrible spite of another adult. 😱 What a horrendous situation 😁

GloryDias · 23/05/2025 21:02

Wow that's really poor, I organise hoodies for our leavers and everyone's name is on it whether parent's buy one or not and they cost max £20.

YourJoyousDenimExpert · 23/05/2025 21:04

I helped organise Y6 hoodies once and it was a bit of a minefield for all sorts of reasons BUT our school insisted on checking the list of names and also the proof before printing the whole batch - it was irritating at the time but am now feeling relieved they did! Sounds like a very awkward situation here - and feel sorry for the child who was omitted and all the others who obviously wanted to wear the hoodies.

Zanatdy · 23/05/2025 21:07

Surely the parents who organise this don’t just add names of parents who pay for a hoodie? Surely it should be the whole class?

usually the school ask if someone does NOT want their child's name on the hoodie - even when it's just first name,

and then every child's name is sent to create the mock-up

It should be the whole class.

(sounds simple, but even something as simple as having every parent checking the preferred spelling is a bloody nightmare 😂)

waterrat · 23/05/2025 21:15

wow that is unbelievable. my child owuld have been absolutely devastated - and my child has been out of school for months because of sen! but they were fully included and it meant so much to them.

of course the kids can't wear them in school and it's hardly a 'punishment' compared to the sadness and humiliation suffered by the chilld left out

Barrenfieldoffucks · 23/05/2025 21:16

Honestly, ordering hoodies isn't rocket science, people make things sound so complicated to make themselves look good.

Kids would move past this in an instant not be bothered about wearing the hoodies, hopefully any irate parents either grow up, or are irate at the person...the malicious fuckwit of a power hungry classrep who did this in the first place.

Wow, is this the OP, the mum of the left out boy, or another class parent?! @Mumof3bringwine it looks like you’ve an acquaintance on here!

Delphiniumandlupins · 23/05/2025 21:18

Any parents objecting because their children can't wear their hoodies to school should be blaming the person who decided to leave one child's name off. Alternatively, you could all modify your hoodie by striking out her child's name (if she can't understand what she did wrong). I think I would have supported sharing the VAT cost though, so that each child paid the same.

aylis · 23/05/2025 21:18

That's very poor. The school is in the right. The other kids aren't being 'punished'.

UndermyShoeJoe · 23/05/2025 21:21

All that agro over £2 on the other thread.

it's not "complicated" at all

it's bloody painful because other parents are absolutely useless and unhelpful

It was 2.57 if I remember 🤣

no, you cannot do that 🙄

I mean if of just paid it tbh maybe even thought it was a cover up for a child who’s parent couldn’t actually afford it at all so split the cost as a nice thing.

But apparently people really do age over £2/£3 for a child’s jumper 😅

At the time I did see both sides of the argument but for me 2.57 wasn’t worth the fight on a personal level but then I know other people have different financial situations.

I think the school did the right thing. And the only thing they could have done.

It’s stuff like this that puts a stop to nice things happening. No doubt there will be no hoodies next year.

This ^

VisitationRights · 23/05/2025 21:27

Parent A who organised this shitshow is just a mean girl bitch.

parents already complain that the SCHOOL should pay for the hoodies (from which budget)

or the PTA (for which they have never lifted a finger)

Parents complain and moan about absolutely everything school-related, even when it's just £1, because "principle, innit"

What is the rep’s argument for removing the other child’s name from the hoodie though? Even if you can see the side that the mum should have her order cancelled and refunded (which is wild tbh) then why should that child’s name be removed- the whole class should be listed there for posterity whether they ordered a hoodie or not. Does the class photo only feature the children whose parents choose to purchase it? It is that decision that is really proving the rep to be a bully.

Theworldisinyourhands · 23/05/2025 21:29

This is absolutely vile. I'd have second hand embarrasment being part of such a horrible 'community' tbh. Good for the school for teaching the kids a lesson about bullying and inclusivity and standing up for what's right coz lord knows their bitchy parents certainly aren't going to

That’s the argument - she questioned why she had to pay VAT for a child’s jumper.

Well parent rep now has her card marked in perpetuity.

What a fucking bitch!

Our schools do the hoodies/tshirts themselves to avoid this crap.
