Have the school done the right thing even though it punishes the wrong set of people ?

DC is in year 6 and as I am sure everyone with a child in the same year is aware the leavers celebrations are in full swing.
The leavers hoodies were organised by the class parent rep.
The hoodies were handed out a while ago and the children have been proudly wearing them 2 days a week in school and were due to wear them for their residential.
unfortunately the Rep has purposely left 1 child without a hoody and also did not include their name on everyone else’s hoody.
I am not sure why it has only been bought to the attention of the school now, but they sent an email basically saying due to one child’s name not being on the hoody they are now banned from being worn on the school premises. Some very angry parents who think the school are punishing the children for something not in their control.
I am not sure what else the school could of done ? I believe they made the right decision but I seem to be the minority!

I agree my DS was a little “ disappointed “ but soon was over it.

That is horrific! My sons year 11 leavers hoodies have gone wrong, the school sent a full list of names to the hoodie company but they’ve only put on the names of those that bought them.

witwatwoo · 23/05/2025 20:00

How do the missing child’s parents feel ?

Lovelynames123 · 23/05/2025 20:00

Mumof3bringwine · 23/05/2025 19:53

Yes. I don’t know the complete reason as to why only snippets but yes.

Well that's appalling, and I hope everyone knows that this immature bully is the reason, not the school!

Auroraloves · 23/05/2025 19:54

I agree with you. However, why did this stupid fuckwit of a ‘class rep’ purposely leave this child out?

So a parent is bullying a child? WTF? I would be expecting that parent to fix the error - at their own cost. But I'm not sure there is an easy way to compel them to do so in a reasonable timeframe.

Perplexed20 · 23/05/2025 20:01

I think the school did the right thing.

How do the missing child’s parents feel ?

I don’t know, I don’t think many of the other parents talk to her after some issues with actually the same set of parents so she doesn’t really talk to anyone. I do believe there is some additional needs present with her DC.
I am concerned though that it will be her who gets the blame.

What a nasty piece of work. Im glad you agree with the school. Anyone who wants to get angry about it needs to be angry at the class rep

Hankunamatata · 23/05/2025 20:02

Bet the parents who are angry would be the type to insist no one wears them if it was their child

Theworsttiming · 23/05/2025 20:02

And it wasn’t done accidentally?

UndermyShoeJoe · 23/05/2025 20:02

I feel for all the children here.

Those that were so happy / excited to get their leavers hoody’s now banned from wearing them casting a shadow over them. Also the parents who have forked out £20-£30 for something normally allowed now banned.

Class rep sucks for excluding one child. Would love to know their excuse.

witwatwoo · 23/05/2025 20:03

So a SEN child was deliberately excluded. ?

Hankunamatata · 23/05/2025 20:03

Make class rep pay for new replacement hoodies

Mumof3bringwine · 23/05/2025 20:03

Theworsttiming · 23/05/2025 20:02

No. I know “snippets “ of the story due to the attempt of justifying the actions but they was not very justified and even the email from the school was very obvious it was intentional.

I would hope you and other parents would step in to be clear that the school had no option, as allowing a parent to bully another parent's child is not on.

PonyPatter44 · 23/05/2025 20:04

What a bunch of childish twats, and how nasty to do this to a child who is inevitably going to turn out to have additional needs. Good on the school for holding the line on this.

Yikes disability discrimination no wonder the school have jumped on it

Sadly lots of parents won’t care about the other child because a lot of these children will likely be off to different schools so will just see this as ruining the end of the year 6 experience and lost cash.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/05/2025 20:07

That is absolutely shocking, how on earth can someone think it acceptable to leave a child out

thetrumanshow · 23/05/2025 20:10

SquashedSquid · 23/05/2025 19:56

That's disgusting. Shame on that adult. Were they not approved by the class teacher or the head before they went to print? I always get two others to look at my hoodie orders before I submit them.

It's REALLY not the teacher or the head's role to be involved.

Following the situation this year, I am guessing they can ask for at least 3 parents to take care of the hoodies, but it's not up to them to deal with this.

Mumof3bringwine · 23/05/2025 20:12

I think the cause was if I remember at the time from the leavers hoody fiasco on whatsapp was a disagreement about extra payment due to VAT.
the issue is the parent had raised the issue but the rep who has a history with the mum then refunded her the hoody and removed her name from all the hoodies instead of discussing like she would with any other parent.

Lifealittleboulder · 23/05/2025 20:12

So I organised our year 6 hoodies and man was it stressful!!! I was literally lying awake one night panicking I’d left someone off!! I would say the school should ask for a proof, ours did, and the teacher checked and confirmed it via email to me then I sent it back. We are a tiny year of only 16 kids though so it’s more simple than a big school…
I can’t imagine leaving a kid off that’s so spiteful

thetrumanshow · 23/05/2025 20:12

did you hear the rumours, or head what the rep actually SAID?

It's very strange. It's obvious EVERYONE will know and see the results, so what on earth could the reasoning be?

Why would anyone do that? Did the parents refuse to pay for hoodie (some do) and that's actually why the name is missing?

PicaK · 23/05/2025 20:12

Well done that school. How horrible. I mean it's not easy to get in touch with everyone, especially when some precious people refuse to be on WhatsApp, cba to pay on time and need chasing 3-4 times.
But to leave someone out intentionally is horrendous.

We know because the original argument was when the hoodies were being ordered which is what is now being used as justification.
