Hi

so parent A organised year 6 leaver hoodies, everyone paid the amount down there jumper which you could choose between children sizes or adult sizes if your dc are bigger which did cost slightly more not much.
there was a misunderstanding and after everyone paid and they were going to be ordered the invoice included VAT for the adult size hoodies.
parent A decided to split this VAT between all jumpers instead of asking the 5 parents who ordered adults to pay their vat.
parent B questioned why she would have to pay VAT after already covering the costs of her child’s hoodie.
for questioning it parent B was instantly refunded the whole jumper and child removed from the design.

who was being unreasonable?

Are you parent A or parent B?

ItsChristmasEEEVEJeff · 03/03/2025 21:42

Parent A unreasonable imo.

Musntapplecrumble · 03/03/2025 21:42

Neither 🤣

I don't think the ones with child jumpers should have to pay the VAT. Seems a bit unfair on parent B.

Sanch1 · 03/03/2025 21:43

Parent A is in the wrong. For expecting everyone to cover VAT when they hadn't all ordered adult sizes, and for cancelling parent b's child's order for questioning.

I expect OP is parent B.

purpleblue2 · 03/03/2025 21:43

Parent A

So which is YABU parent A or B?

Badgerstmary · 03/03/2025 21:43

Parent A

Lindererer32 · 03/03/2025 21:43

Parent A.

Flamingoknees · 03/03/2025 21:44

A. B was right to question this.

wafflesmgee · 03/03/2025 21:44

B

LastHeraldMage · 03/03/2025 21:43

So which is YABU parent A or B?

I think parent A, I contacted parent B as we were trying to organise the child a new hoodie.

This is absolutely bonkers. The parents choosing to order adult sizes need to pay VAT. There didn’t need to be any drama. The price shouldn’t have been split across everyone. No one should have been removed from the hoodie (how cruel!). The parent doing the organising should have apologised for the misunderstanding because they got the cost wrong.

aintnospringchicken · 03/03/2025 21:45

Parent A

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/03/2025 21:48

Parent A is obviously the unreasonable one.

Firstly, he/she fucked up by failing to charge the VAT on the adult hoodie. Secondly, she unfairly decided to split the VAT between people who weren't liable for it and without any consultation. Thirdly, she handled the query from Parent B very poorly.

Parent A should probably avoid organising stuff in the future!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/03/2025 21:48

Parent a was wrong. Why did they refund B’s hoodie, that was completely unfair.
what size did the children’s hoodies go up to? Assuming it was higher than age 12 why did any children need an adult size.

Tbf my child did 🤣🤣🤣 she is the height of a 14 year old though and likes her jumpers baggy ( very slim ) but arms are an issue

Parent A was unreasonable and unkind to remove the child's name from the hoodie.

Yes to this.

That’s what I thought. It’s not the child’s fault! Why did they get their money refunded - I don’t see anything to say they no longer wanted the hoodie!

Huw much more did the vat charge cost on everyone’s price? Could the pta have covered this price difference?

Schoolchoicesucks · 03/03/2025 22:13

A was wrong. Messed up by not realising about the VAT charge. We did charge a standard price for all hoodies when my DC was in Y6 but parents knew the price beforehand rather than being given a top up bill after the event.
A then messed up again by removing B's DC from the design and from the order without giving B the option to withdraw the order.
It is a pretty thankless task though. Proofing the design, chasing everyone to get their orders in, sorting out issues with the printer.
I hope B's DC gets a hoodie with their name on.

Jeeekers · 03/03/2025 22:26

cancelling the hoodie was out of line.

  1. parents ordering adult hoodie should have been informed of cost difference
  2. if she forgot to do that, she should have got consensus

That mum A needs to be flogged.

Why should any one else have to pay extra bc her child is larger. You can’t do that in a department store. Where did she come up with this brilliant idea to spread other peoples money around to her advantage. Ugh, it’s always someone causes upset bc they’re only thinking of themselves.

Cosyvibes · 03/03/2025 22:47

Parent A is absolutely batshit

Who the hell would behave like that and do that to a child!
