Curious to know what opinions you see constantly on mumsnet that you think “Am I the only person that disagrees with that!?”

Oh actually I do have two opinions that put me at odds with MN,

I think gender ideology / trans issues is too much of a non issue for me to care about.

It’s absolutely fine for people to quote the OP even if they are the first response.

SnoozingFox · 21/05/2025 22:59

People who create blended families are by and large selfish and leap far too quickly into having babies with multiple partners creating a huge mess of half and step relationships.

Some people are just stupid. It's not that they haven't have the opportunities or education offered to them, they are just thick.

Most people who have botox and lip fillers are shallow and vain.

That women should be responsible for their own relationships and decisions with their MIL and not hide behind DH to manage it for them.

Interesting! And should men also maintain an independent relationship with their MILs?

Dontlletmedownbruce · 21/05/2025 23:02

It's ok to leave your dog in the car for a few minutes if you are running into a local shop or using a garage toilet

It's ok for your kids to walk to school from around 7, even if it involves crossing a road. It's the kids who don't know how to cross that are at risk of accidents.

It's ok to not have an exercise routine and just live an active life.

It's ok to just have a job that doesn't involve a career pathway to the top.

People who earn more are not just people who work harder. Yes they work hard but so do many others on low income. The industry, economy and a million other factors are also at play.

that children are mostly idiotic and even when they say they didn’t do whatever the teacher is accusing them of they most definitely did

This - as evidenced by thread the other day around one mothers outrage her son missed break for ‘just yawning’ ( course he was ‘just yawning’ luv)
God I’m glad I left teaching ….

Whenever a current wife or partner starts bitching about the “lazy entitled ex who hasn’t worked for years and just goes on holidays” - really? Just always sounds like thinly veiled jealously to me

she'd be listening to her man though you see.

Weclomehome · 21/05/2025 23:05

I don't believe that ADHD exists on its own, I think that it is a list of behaviours that have come as a result of something else.
As someone who has taught in ASN for 20 years, I have never taught or worked with a child who has ADHD on its own, they have all either also had autism or experienced severe trauma, or more recently had some form of screen addiction or overuse.

I also don't believe that screens are helping your child to 'self-regulate', in fact they are doing the exact opposite.
Your child with autism or ADHD will struggle to self-regulate but giving them a screen is just temporarily hypnotising them so that they forget about the thing they were upset about because they are glued to it. It doesn't support them to develop the ability to self-regulate and the more you give them screens as a way of managing their emotions when upset, the less they are going to be able to cope with or manage those emotions.

Divorced/widowed/single mothers shouldn't wait for years before introducing their children to their new partner. The children should meet and audition prospective new partners - and any children THEY have - before the relationship becomes established. This could save wasting a lot of time on someone who isn't going to be compatible with the established family unit.

Social worker here -definitely wouldn’t advise that

Posting pics of your kids on social media before they're 16yrs old and can give consent is a violation of their right to privacy.

Agreed 👏👏👏

And then when the kids become looks obsessed, they blame society rather than the fact they've been posting images of that child for likes and love hearts, for most of its life.

tiredoflondonbutnotlife · 21/05/2025 23:07

Just because you say something is a genocide, it doesn’t make it so.

Apply pressure on Hamas to release the hostages and leave power and see how quickly the war will stop.

There is no such place as Palestine.

Sleep training can be very effective.

Thongs are really comfortable.

Coldplay are overrated.

All political parties are full of people who haven’t a clue about how to create economic growth. If any of them sorted that out then we wouldn’t be worrying about the cost of living and immigration.

Fortean · 21/05/2025 20:44

I think childfree weddings are fine and it doesn’t mean you hate kids.

I don’t actually have one myself, but I do t think owning a toilet brush is disgustingly awful.

Step mothers aren’t always the devil incarnate.

I hate toilet brushed - what do you do instead?

TheMel · 21/05/2025 23:10

I have a bunch, I'll post them separately when I'm brave enough.

1 "They can burn down the hotels for all I care" is not incitement to violence. It's just another way of saying they don't give a hoot whatever happens to the immigrants. Nasty, perhaps, but not illegal.

YawnSoTired · 21/05/2025 23:14

It's I bought a new dress etc
Not I brought a new dress etc

PorgyandBess · 21/05/2025 20:34

That people visiting a newborn is one of the happiest memories you’ll have of those 2 short weeks.

That breastfeeding a 5 year old is weird.

That getting married doesn’t mean you have to hate your mother in law.

That you’re a parent that’s needed for longer than posters might make you think. Throwing out young adults is generally not great for them.

Agree with all of these. Plus

I am happy my kids go/went to nursery (so are they)
If dinner doesn’t get eaten, there is no other option offered (no SN)
I don’t have a bath in my home
I have a loo brush (it gets changed frequently)

Ruggerlass · 21/05/2025 22:27

I accept it’s probably not black and white, but each time you have sex relying on contraception there’s a risk you may get pregnant and you accept that risk.

Edited

Yes and if that fails then many of us will terminate the subsequent pregnancy without it being a huge deal

abouttogetlynched · 21/05/2025 23:16

Probably get this post deleted, but you did ask!
That not everyone on here (either them or their child) who says they’ve got autism or ADHD, actually has got autism or ADHD

SilviaSnuffleBum · 21/05/2025 23:17

Unpopular opinion within the ND community (I'm AuDHD, as are my daughters), but I don't believe PDA exists.

RainbowUnicorse · 21/05/2025 23:18

Love this thread! Thanks OP, highly entertaining ☺️🙏

Breastfeeding is ok until 3 max

Sleep training is cruel and should only be used as a last resort

It’s ok to change sheets every 2 weeks (esp if you sleep in PJs)

There has to be more thought put into what our children consume (e.g. crisps & processed meat for 2 year old is a no no)

Children need ideally 2h of fresh air a day

Ferro · 21/05/2025 23:19

That kids will not actually starve themselves to death if you don't give them Coco Pops for every meal.

ThatCyanCat · 21/05/2025 23:19

Weddings, Botox, filler and Christmas Eve boxes aren't moral issues.

It shouldn't have taken anyone this long to work out that people sometimes boast and are misleading on social media.

abouttogetlynched · 21/05/2025 23:19

That a lot of parents are just being lazy when they let their kids have iPads and phones from young ages - we know the dangers and negatives of this by now, but people still do it. Why?

mehmehma · 21/05/2025 23:20

My unpopular opinions:

  1. Most MILs are not narcissists.
  2. Most people who post on MN about Israel and Gaza haven’t got a clue about Middle East history and they’re just repeating popular sound bites.
  3. People who say they are ‘high earners’ probably aren’t.
  4. You should only go NC/LC with family in extreme cases.
