Curious to know what opinions you see constantly on mumsnet that you think “Am I the only person that disagrees with that!?”

It's OK not to learn to drive if you know without a shadow of a doubt you would make an unsafe driver (poor spacial awareness, prone to lapses of concentration etc). Just as long as you don't expect lifts from others all the time, obviously.

Humans are apex predators. They have two eyes facing forwards and have evolved molars to grind meat. Meat is natural to human diets.

But what does one call water if not corporation pop!

I thought it was just my Dad who called water corporation pop😂
My brother and I fell for it every time when he asked whether we’d like some, we lived in hope of a bottle of fizzy stuff!

I am happy for tradesmen to use the toilet whilst working for me.

That abortion is murder in most circumstances. I.e. when the sex was consensual and the pregnancy poses no serious health risks to mother or child.

Absolutely. Also, a LOT of vegans are virtue signalling bores. I won't eat with vegans, it is such an unhealthy diet and I resent that their lifestyle choice impacts what restaurants I can go to. I hate the argument 'well you CAN eat anything, whereas they can only eat plant based food'. No, they choose not to eat animal products. It's a choice, they won't die if they don't eat plant based.

There's no such word as noone, it's two words, no one.

That it’s so much better to live within waking distance of excellent schools, theatres, restaurants, cinema, shops, green spaces blah blah AND live within a community with a “ vibe” and that driving is a faff.

Yes that would be great. But we don’t all live In London or a city and public transport can be pretty dire in many places, therefore a car is needed.

1SillySossij · 22/05/2025 09:34

That most (not all) diagnosed and suspected SEN cases, are a result of the child's upbringing or trauma rather than any innate neurological difference.
That MJ is not a magic bullet to lose weight except in the first 6 months or so. After that you really need to work at it.

whistlesandbells · 22/05/2025 09:35

Adult children living at home seem to be a mixture of infantilized and also free agents to do as they please. Many parents on here claim they expect no financial contribution from adult working DC and they are also totally free to do as they please in the house as if they are the owners. This includes inviting current boyfriend/girlfriend to take up residence, using the house as if they live alone (cooking at all hours/refusing family food and being made separate meals/go out and not say when they will return/refuse to work full time - part time is enough) etc

It blows my mind - these parents seem like they are held hostage to their adult children. I don’t think this is the norm in reality. Adult children should be independent wherever possible and contributing.

muggart · 22/05/2025 09:37

On the step parenting board I’m often surprised by the way that step children are pandered to. Many MN users seem to think it’s perfectly ok for SC to throw a hissy fit when their parents start dating new people or when they acquire half siblings. It seems to me that being a SC is a licence to act like a brat in the eyes of many MN users. I do have sympathy when the kids are little (although I still don’t think bad behaviour should be ignored) but I see this attitude even when the SC are in their 20s and occasionally 30s!! It amazes me.

(I’m not a step parent myself don’t worry!)

Ultra processed foods are food, not poison.

Justmuddlingalong · 22/05/2025 09:42

The NHS would be in a better place financially, if the overly generous and much abused sick pay given to staff, was changed.

Sadcafe · 22/05/2025 09:42

Daring to say there are times when it may be acceptable to look at partners phone when you suspect something, especially when it’s a male looking at females

The hatred towards mothers in law is insane! I always read them thinking I bet there’s a whole other side to THIS story 🤔

Agree - I adore my MiL. My own mother was a witch, but fortunately my DH only met her once, so even he can’t do a ‘mad bitch of a MiL’ post 🤣

I think that would be predicated on you being asked to contribute to the brides outside activities that cost money. Like a hen do and then being blocked from the wedding. What do you think in that case?

I am not talking about hen dos or anything like that. Purely about not being invited to a wedding.

If I was invited to a hen do but not a wedding (which has happened before) I would not care and would simply decide whether or not I would attend.

(Happened before the group - group of us threw a local hen evening for a friend who was getting married in her home country. None of us went to the wedding.)

arcticpandas · 21/05/2025 20:51

I tend to agree with the majority at almost all occasions so far except for my firm beliefs that:

  • all abroad hendos or marriages are CF (unless the bride and the groom pay for everyone's tickets and accommodation ofcourse)
  • it's weird, unnecessary and boardering incestous to be breastfeeding a 5 year old (unless you live in a country with famine)
  • it's cringeworthy to make a song and a dance about your birthday as an adult (let's face it- one step closer to the grave)
  • can't stand all the people on Ozempic/Mounjaro saying "you still have to do the work to lose weight". You really don't. The jabs take away your hunger and makes you feel filled up really quickly. Even without eating healthy and exercicing you will lose weight.
Edited

You contradicted yourself, the jabs ,moderate hunger. If you do not eat less, you will not lose weight on the jabs. Also, why the fuck do you care ?.......

Ha ha! I agree with this and I'm a vegetarian. We are omnivores, for sure.

I've never been the evangelical type of veggie, though. What people eat is up to them and I also hate it when people ask me why I don't eat meat.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 22/05/2025 09:48

999 times out of a 1000 it is a parenting fail if your child -

  • is addicted to screens
  • overweight
  • can't behave reasonably in public or at events
  • doesn't achieve their best at school
  • has a poor work ethic
  • is not resilient / has "anxiety"
  • the list goes on...........

Of course there will be the 1 in 1000 (or less) exception, but most of it is parenting.

Picklepower · 22/05/2025 08:17

Obsession with hygiene and cleaning is unnecessary and damaging for the environment. What is actually going to happen if you don't wash your bedding or mop your floors every day? Funnily enough those obsessively clean people aren't noticeably healthier or longer living

Yep agreed.

The cleanest family I know are also the ones whose kids are off sick from school the most.

Sorry not read the thread yet 😳 but all the posts about men and how awful they are and how men are to blame for everything. Honestly it gets shoehorned into every pore of mumsnet the men hate!

Same goes for transwomen. Transmen however are victims of brainwashing and manipulation and are to be pitied. .

BeJollyEagle · 21/05/2025 20:30

The children one, what do you mean? Do you think at 16, they aren’t children anymore?

I’m not that PP but I moved out at that age, was already with my husband and gone no contact with my remaining parent. I was an adult at that 16. I would never want my own child to go through that but I absolutely don’t treat 16 year olds like children.

CoffeeCantata · 22/05/2025 09:51

Not QUITE what OP meant (great thread, OP) but it's an area of conflict on MN.

When an OP asks, for example, 'Don't you hate scrunch-bum leggings?' and some pious posters tell us all that 'women can wear what they want' or 'it's none of your business' or 'how does it affect you?'

Yawn. We know. But ;you can still have an opinion - you're still ALLOWED an opinion, and it's fun hearing them. I wish sometimes we could by-pass the bleedin' obvious, trite and scolding posts and just answer the question!

MmeChoufleur · 22/05/2025 09:52

90% of names on baby names threads are bonkers and ridiculously try-hard.

SilverLining77 · 22/05/2025 09:53

NHS is completely unsustainable in the current form and we need a co-payment system.

Some problems are not solvable full stop. Learning when to accept them or to walk away is as important as learning to problem solve fixes.
