Curious to know what opinions you see constantly on mumsnet that you think “Am I the only person that disagrees with that!?”

Luckily a trained professional isn’t going to be ‘tricked’ into diagnosing a child who is actually NT.

Generally neurotypical children are very easy and straightforward to parent, if there are such difficulties and challenges that a parent comes to an online forum stressed and at the end of their tether it’s not too reaching to suggest the possibility of other issues.

This is the unpopular opinions thread, just to remind you.

They don't usually last this long!

JoshuaClay · 22/05/2025 08:21

Very old people - 80 + or even 90 + should have more employment opportunities- if that’s what they want. Many 90 plus year olds are very fit mentally and physically and should be able to contribute economically to society if that’s what they want

JoshuaClay · 22/05/2025 08:22

Only children don’t need ‘friends’ any more than kids with siblings need ‘friends’

OneOliveZebra · 22/05/2025 08:23

That you shouldn’t become a single parent against the wishes of the other person.

Children stop being your children at 18

Other people cant tell your children off

blacksantanapkin · 22/05/2025 08:31

I know but ‘unpopular opinions’ about home decor or dogs or fashion is fine, the past few pages too many posts coming for disabled people which is just a bit grim

But surely those that have chosen not to have kids will think the opposite. They might think all parents have miserable lives for 18 or so years or whenever their kids leave and are jealous.

But they wouldn't know would they? Parents know what its like to not have kids i.e before kids - so have experienced both - but it doesn't work the other way round. Its just my opinion -though people can think whatever they want :)

That men are awful and overall less good than women. While it is undeniably true that violent offences are committed by men rather than women, that doesn't (imo) make a difference to how pleasant men vs women are day to day. I find both genders as pleasant or unpleasant as each other overall. Also, I find that there is a massive double standard on here when it comes to male and female behaviour in relationships: whatever the issue is, it always seems to be the man's fault. So if a man wants to much sex, he is an gross pervert. If he wants too little sex, he isn't considering his wife's needs. And God forbid he watches porn (I don't know why anyone cares about porn unless it is illegal, obviously)

The problem is that they should be full of things like "Chinese takeaway is better cold the next morning" and "In a cream tea, the jam goes on first", but they always become stuff like "Eugenics isn't always bad" and "Autism is just bad parenting" and various opinions that are unpopular because they are, in fact, completely fucking hatstand.

JoshuaClay · 22/05/2025 08:37

It’s fine to think that a very predominantly ‘middle class’ ‘academic’ school is shit - people have very different ideas of what constitutes a good school

NOT middle class schools generally necessarily- I mean if you’ve had a particular bad experience with one

MyOliveHelper · 22/05/2025 08:38

Women can be wrong in relationships.

x2boys · 22/05/2025 08:38

Ruggerlass · 21/05/2025 21:58

Rape, abusive relationships, medical reasons either health of mother or unborn baby. Voluntarily having sex and accidentally getting pregnant is not a valid reason in my opinion.

Then you are not pro choice are you?

People care about porn with good reason.
I don’t have time to write you an essay So you’ll just have to take my word for it that it’s a problem in society. Legal or not and quite a lot of it is not Legal

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/05/2025 08:41

’Deep cleaning’ is a term that should be reserved for operating theatres. Otherwise it’s a ‘thorough’ clean.

Feeling anxious/worried/less than happy some of the time is normal and not necessarily a MH condition.

MrsEverest · 22/05/2025 08:42

Yep still haven't seen a single opinion that isn't clearly, loudly and widely supported by a large number of posters.

Surely, surely nobody thinks that stuff like 'sometimes women are wrong' constitutes a controversial opinion?

x2boys · 22/05/2025 08:38

It f I wasn’t pro choice then I would be against abortion in all circumstances which I’m not. Women still should have the choice in certain scenarios which I’ve stated.

ThatCyanCat · 22/05/2025 08:43

People shouldn't be appalled and outraged that a forum aimed at women and used primarily by women does, in fact, centre women rather than being a morally perfect, Old Bailey style court of perfect justice where everything is prefaced by NAMALT and What About The Men. The fact that people know to come here to complain about it means it isn't common for there to be spaces that centre women, and in a place with stories of abuse every single day, that shouldn't be a person's priority in coming here.

x2boys · 22/05/2025 08:38

My sister-in-law had booked to have an abortion because she got pregnant five weeks before her wedding and she didn’t want to spoil her day.
Then lost the baby and spent 12 months crapping on about how the next one was going to be her rainbow baby because it was conceived at a more convenient time.

Really not sure that that’s what they had in mind for the affecting the mother’s mental health criteria.

FKAT · 22/05/2025 08:45

Feeling anxious/worried/less than happy some of the time is normal and not necessarily a MH condition.

Yeah agree - having anxiety is normal and indeed desirable as a reasonable level of anxiety stops you skipping across duel carriageways, approaching strange XL bullies for a cuddle and juggling with knives. Having an Anxiety Disorder is completely different and actually stops you living a normal life. Most people who claim the latter, have the former.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 22/05/2025 08:46

Puppies don't need to be crated.

Fantasy counts as literature.

Not all thin women starve themselves or live in the gym, and "food noise" is not a thing everyone gets.

JoshuaClay · 22/05/2025 08:46

Some middle class ‘well educated’ people - both adults and children - are nothing more than vile pieces of shit
