basically His experience could be valuable in navigating the current complex geopolitical challenges especially at the moment.

I've never been wealthier in my life, than under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. I had MONEY. A real good salary. Actual disposable income. I earn far far more now but I have far less. I'm not saying I'd want them back in way, shape or fashion but they were the halcyon days for me.

That may have been something to do with a frantic level of public spending that ended up with Brown having to sell off our gold reserves at rock bottom prices, then there was the infamous note from the outgoing Treasury official Liam Byrne when Labour lost in 2010:

“Former UK Treasury official Liam Byrne left a note for his successor, David Laws, that read: "Dear chief secretary, I'm afraid there is no money. Kind regards – and good luck!"

I’m glad you had a great time though. It’s taken us a while to pay it all off.

He was responsible for opening the doors to mass immigration and look how contentious that issue is now, and so he is the wrong choice for Prime Minister on that basis alone.

He also established the supreme court as being an unelected higher power than the Govenrnment which has given too much power to Islington lawyers. His instincts are for Globalism, unelected power and mass migration- all unpopular right now.

TizerorFizz · 19/05/2025 11:28

Obviously he would not do it. He was however a first class politician who made a mistake. As others have. They do what they believe to be best. As we now turn away from conflict, we won’t get a Pm like him again.

Snickersnack1 · 19/05/2025 11:30

LOL nope!

I’d be happy to see Gordon Brown back though.

FOJN · 19/05/2025 11:33

Starmer doesn't possess a fraction of Blairs political nouse or charisma. I'm no fan of Blair but I wouldn't be so rude as to compare him to the shambles of our current PM.

There is enough trouble in the ME without throwing Blair into the mix.

RoseAndGeranium · 19/05/2025 11:36

YABVVVVVU. Now log off, Cherie!!!!

This is also true. I don’t want Blair back one bit but Starmer is unquestionably worse. By some margin.

He was a liar and as such couldn’t be trusted then and can’t be trusted now. Labour won’t introduce tuition fees - first thing he did. As others have said he’s a war criminal and the problems with NHS dentistry are all down to him.

And GP contracts too. He gave them a fantastic deal to "cure" the GP shortages - that worked well! It made the situation worse! Who'd have thought that paying them more to do less would mean fewer appointments! Doh!

Funniest thing I've read on here in ages. He was the cause of most of the financial problems we face today.

100%, his Robin hood grasp of economics damaged business and the economy - which is needed to fund state services.

I hate to say this but tbf that is a not funny but long time inside joke D Cameron chose to make public for his own reasons. Apparently they all leave that when changing office

ballroomblue · 19/05/2025 14:12

You realise he is a war criminal?

PinkGardenParty · 19/05/2025 14:14

The liar who causes a war where thousands of people died for nothing?

Absolutely not.

ArtTheClown · 19/05/2025 14:17

He did not make a mistake about the Iraq war. He is presumably not a stupid man, he knew there were no WMDs. He lied.

IleftmybaginNewportPagnell · 19/05/2025 09:41

Aargh you made me remember Cherie 😭

Cherie ‘dear god close your face woman!’ Blair?

Onlyhereforthebatshitneighbours · 19/05/2025 14:24

Fgs can we stop going backwards in this country?

Caligirl80 · 19/05/2025 14:28

NO. People who mislead the public about starting wars are not competent to be prime minister - he's lucky he didn't end up in the Hague!
Suggest you read the Chilcot Inquiry's report ASAP. You'll realise how ick your suggestion is.

Murdoch1949 · 19/05/2025 14:34

Good god NO.

Tallisker · 19/05/2025 14:38

Completely changed the face of Britain by flinging open the doors to immigration. They expected 13 thousand Eastern Europeans and got half a million. And it never stopped.

plus saddling the country with so much debt through PFI. Yes we got shiny new hospitals and fire stations but we’re still paying through the nose for them all 30 years later.

Not to mention the war and the lying.

And university for all, which led to massive student debt plus dumbing down of courses so everyone could take part. And also led to the ‘customer is right’ predicament universities are now in.

And the ridiculous Gender Recognition Act.

I agree it felt fab at first, it was amazing after so long with the Tories in power, but overall it was a disaster for Britain and led directly to Brexit.

CalicoPusscat · 19/05/2025 14:41

😱 I accept Tony Blair war criminal over my dead body

Bushmillsbabe · 19/05/2025 14:45

How, in a country of millions of intelligent people, can we not come up with a decent candidate for PM? On both sides it's disaster after disaster among the party leaders, which has openned up a vacuum for the far right nightmare which is Farage.

KimberleyClark · 19/05/2025 14:46

God no.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 19/05/2025 15:00

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/05/2025 09:50

No he shouldn't but I understand why you suggest it OP. The murder of 100,000 Iraqi children aside, it was the best time for the UK in modern history.

Although much of it was smoke and mirrors, funded by off-balance sheet borrowed money that the NHS and education sectors, and therefore taxpayers, are still paying for.

x2boys · 19/05/2025 10:04

I don't think Stamer,is anything like Blair
For all.Blairs faults he was very charismatic particularly in the early day
Starmer, in the other hand has as much charisma as a potatoe.

Edited

Ironic isn't it? Many love Blair as he was charismatic, but talentless. Many do not like Starmer who has much more talent, but no charisma.

Messycoo · 19/05/2025 15:17

Absolutely not ! He was the one who lied about chemical weapons in Iraq.
People committed suicide through his actions, due to his scapegoating!
He made labour what it is today !!!
