Male staff member in store

Not sure if IAMBU about this, but it irritates me to no end:

I often go to a store for groceries. The store has taken to putting a male member of staff at the door (not security) to greet customers. I’m usually rushing in and out after/before school run and every.single.time. I have this man in my face saying hello as I enter and goodbye 5-10 mins later as I leave.

I feel harassed and like I’m forced to interact with an unknown man for no apparent reason when I just want to get on with my shopping, even when I make a point of looking away, trying to enter the store as far as possible from where he’s standing. It makes me so uncomfortable but I can’t put my finger on why.

She said "It would make a HUGE difference to me if it were a woman!" She has a problem with the fact that he's a man.

Madness!

Poor git doing his job!

I am sure that it doesn't fill him with joy either, he is doing his job in customer care, sometimes customers need extra help at the entrance.

Yawn.

Starting a thread about a non-issue leaves people open to others having and expressing an opinion/judgement (or whatever you want to call it).

If someone saying 'hello' on entering a shop is such a big deal, it's a wonder they can cope with life in general.

Maybe read the existing comments addressing your points or ignore posts that make you yawn.

Just be glad that he's not one of these chuggers who set themselves up in the entrance of supermarkets! Or as a previous poster said, one of these blokes trying to sell AA membership. Several years ago,I had one of these guys pounce on me,and despite telling him that I didn't drive,he still kept trying sell me AA membership! Crazy or what?

I work in a shop on tills and find quite a few customers really quite rude - as a PP said acting as if you're a robot. I'm not talking about people who might find social interaction difficult , people who continue to talk on their phone or to whoever they're with while slinging their items at you and acting as if it's an inconvenience to be asked something such as ' do you need a bag?'
I wonder why they have chosen to visit a shop rather than order online.
The OP and others may be better suited to shopping at an Amazon shop where everything just automatically scans. Or getting a click and collect delivery. I was going to suggest an online food shop but that would require opening your front door to an unknown person and possibly some verbal interaction.

I always say hello to the security guy on the door - what a boring job!

My local Morrisons has a lovely security man i always say hello.

Our local Asda have a one way system now. I'm sure it's to stop shop lifters sneaking in helping themselves to the meal deals chiller. Which we pass on the way out. They have also removed stock from the lobby area. I've been reminded a few times to go in the other way.

Is it a smaller Asda store?.
The small one i sometimes go to to collect a george asda order has done something similar to what you describe.
The larger store a few miles away hasnt done it.

It's not small no but not as big as some others I've been to. Only 1 floor and they've put the security gates back at the entrance. So you can go in but have to go through checkout to leave.
