Will these balloons ruin my wedding?

I am getting married in a historic, landmark in Aug. The venue has been quite strict on the things they will allow. It has been annoying at times but it’s a compromise we have to accept.

I want to add a fun element to the disco. I have found these balloons and think they are perfect. I showed the venue wedding coordinator and they said they’ve had bad experiences with balloons (wtf?) in the past so “they wouldn’t”. I feel this is overly dramatic. How hot can it get? It’s a medium sized period room (enough space for 85 people to dance).

The party room is going to be very low lit with up lights. I think the led balloons will be just right.

Do you think the venue is being ridiculous?

We had these kinds of balloons for a kids disco not long ago and were at the tables rather than the ceilings. The LEd switches off quite quickly and you’ll probably get the look on the picture for an hour max (if they dont pop). After that will look quite odd.

They said they’ve had bad experiences in the past with the heat. But people have balloons in Texas in Summer, surely

People also have air conditioning in Texas in summer. I doubt your venue does.

RedRoss86 · 16/05/2025 17:33

The last hotel I worked in was extremely green.
No balloons allowed for events as 1. Bad for environment & 2. If they pop & have confetti in them, it's an absolute PAIN to clean up.

Thulpelly · 16/05/2025 17:34

Great that you don’t mind tacky

TorroFerney · 16/05/2025 17:37

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/05/2025 15:14

Do you mean 'Kitsch'?

Ah thank you , I was trying to work the word out.

That’s not kitsch though is it? the balloons I mean, to be kitsch they’d need to be those bright 80’s one stuck up in a corner, no helium.

FofB · 16/05/2025 17:37

I work in a wedding venue that is a listed building. The insurers are super strict about we can allow- probably because it would cost them so much to repair if anything went wrong. Maybe it's something to do with that?

They look a bit like jelly fish

That was my forst thought too!!!!

But to answer your question, no they won’t ruin your wedding, they’re just balloons!!!!!!

I don’t mind tacky. I going for a fun vibe. The room is extremely elegant. So I think it will work on the ceiling. With very low lighting and a disco ball.

There’s fun and there’s tacky though

Stravaig · 16/05/2025 17:43

You need to be a lot more specific. You've mention a 'historic landmark', an 'elegant venue', and August; but then summer in Texas, and also summer in England.

To me, a Scot, a historic landmark in August might be an ancient, damp and draughty castle. A plantation ballroom in the the sweltering deep south of USA is something else entirely.

Which country are you talking about? How (many hundreds of years) old is your venue, and what are its specific attributes and limitations? What is the climate and typical temperature range during your wedding month?

Plus ofc - do you want the planet to survive long enough for you to have a long and happy married life on it?

LemonCake91 · 16/05/2025 17:43

Our venue sounds similar in terms of how strict they were! No balloons allowed but we were allowed floating candles in vases 😂

MrsApplepants · 16/05/2025 17:43

Maybe have a few of them for a future significant birthday party? They’re just really naff. Sorry.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 16/05/2025 17:43

I get the vibe you're going for OP, and I love it! Can I come?!

Agree the whites nicer. If they haven't said no outright id chance it if you'd already done a test. Could you get some small disco balls to intersperse through in case they all pop or something?

Favouritefruits · 16/05/2025 17:45

Yes!

maybe a Wetherspoons would be more welcoming of the tacky balloons?

lazyarse123 · 16/05/2025 17:48

Omg they look so chavvy, am I still allowed to say that? They'd fit in at a council leisure centre but not a historic venue.

RawBloomers · 16/05/2025 17:49

I like the balloons and think it could make a hotel disco area much more fun and, as you suggest, clubby.

I've been to, I think, 4 weddings that had balloons in the disco/dance area over the years. None with LED lights. At one, in a tent in the summer, the balloons started to pop an hour or so into the music. I wouldn't say it ruined the night, but it wasn't good and people (including me) spent a lot more time outside the dance tent than I suspect we would have. At all the others the balloons were fine and added a fun element (especially the one that had a balloon drop). Not sure if the ones that popped were helium or air filled but agree with other posters that that might make the difference. Is there a way to do them with air and have them hang down instead of floating?

Maybe if it’s being passed down to you with such extreme force, you should consider therapy.

Your mother should’ve taught you manners as well. Sadly it’s evident she didn’t, although no reason for an adult to be unable to have some of their own.

Wow - hypocrite much? You are being rude yourself.
Live and let live - this poster is entitled to share their opinion of the balloons.
Get off your high horse!

abracadabra1980 · 16/05/2025 17:54

Absolutely chav, OP.

daisychain01 · 16/05/2025 17:54

heavenisaplaceonearth · 16/05/2025 14:27

I think they’re lovely. I’d go ahead unless they think it will damage something.

If the balloons are filled with Helium, then they are causing harm. Helium is a non-renewable resource used in hospitals for MRIs for example. Once we have depleted it, we will never get any more. Frivolous use of Helium should be made illegal.

OP please consider if your balloons are filled with helium, to try for an alternative. Make your wedding kind to the environment.

ByWiseAquaFinch · 16/05/2025 17:56

They look like jelly fish...

Beeinalily · 16/05/2025 17:57

I think they're rather beautiful, but I'd push to find out what exactly happened with the "bad experience".

butterpuffed · 16/05/2025 17:58

@Plickers , I think you're doing very well to keep your cool amongst the torrent of vipers being rude, and determined to use the word 'tacky' like it's just been invented!

Hope you have a lovely wedding with whatever you want💐

TheNinny · 16/05/2025 18:03

The Alamo? 😆

skymagentatwo · 16/05/2025 18:04

Wow if you want a council chav wedding, then I'm sure Kevin and Perry might come to hold some balloons too, other wise it would be soo unfair 😂

Honestly the only people who leave and say oohh I wish they had more balloons will be the people sarcastically taking the piss on their way home.

Nice venue tacky balloons, erm nope.

Mrsgreen100 · 16/05/2025 18:07

Not very environmentally friendly why don’t you just use garlands of flowers instead?
add some fairy lights to display
