To be nervous to buy a house with no immediate neighbours

Hello

we are house hunting and have seen a house that ticks all the boxes other than it is not in a village setting we are used to. My partner thinks it is perfect!
closest neighbour is about 200m down the road. Nearest town is less than 10 mins drive to the centre. There is a big Waitrose 5 mins away. Opposite (these are down a drive) a big golf course and tennis club.

would you be scared having no immediate neighbours?

thank you

No neighbours?
Sounds perfect to me! 🙂

Mymanyellow · 15/05/2025 12:32

Sounds perfect to me. Any chance of a rightmove link?

QueenOfToast · 15/05/2025 12:32

I’d be delighted to not have neighbours.

ACynicalDad · 15/05/2025 12:32

I might factor in some floodlights with cameras but sounds great.

Ilikewinter · 15/05/2025 12:33

Isn't that most people's dreams!

Poppyyoutwat · 15/05/2025 12:33

I lived like that once, it was bliss.

i had a pantry full of stuff as couldn’t just pop to the shop.

I now live in a town and directly opposite a corner shop. Much preferred living in the arse end of nowhere with my pantry cupboard.

Littletreefrog · 15/05/2025 12:35

Sounds brilliant. What do you actually want neighbours for? Get some security lights an alarm and a nice crunchy driveway.

Atarin · 15/05/2025 12:35

Personally I would hate this! I’m very much a city person, I would hate having to drive everywhere. I love being walking distance from shops, pubs, restaurants, theatres, etc.

redgingerbread · 15/05/2025 12:36

It wouldn’t be for me, but I’m very much a city person.

Tulipsontoast · 15/05/2025 12:36

We don’t have neighbours. It’s joyous.

Reading neighbour posts on here always reminds me of how lucky we are.

What are your concerns?

Thelnebriati · 15/05/2025 12:37

I'm well jealous. Buy a big freezer, keep your pantry well stocked, try to keep on good terms with your neighbour and keep your vehicle in good condition. Make sure you can manage for a week with no electricity, that includes entertainment as well as food.
It might be an idea to join the preppers board.

busytoddlermum · 15/05/2025 12:37

A quiet and relaxing home sounds perfect!

In my head it is for security, the help being there on the very small chance there is ever an emergency. Or to deter burglars? My husband has said we can get flood lights/cameras etc
I think I also imagined having neighbours we are friendly with and the kids playing out with theirs but this has never happened at our other houses!! Think just have cold feet and interested on other peoples opinions 😊

Btw 200m isn’t exactly isolated!

ThejoyofNC · 15/05/2025 12:37

As a person who has no neighbours, there are absolutely 0 downsides.

No3392 · 15/05/2025 12:37

Gods, I'd love that!

No not mine. I wouldn’t want to live somewhere isolated. Not that I am that sociable, but it’s good to have somewhere to run for help if you need it.

BassesAreBest · 15/05/2025 12:38

I wouldn’t like a house completely in the middle of nowhere (also safety concerns as a single woman) but you have a partner? And the nearest neighbour is only 200m away? That doesn’t sound too bad.

Mum2HC · 15/05/2025 12:38

Haha this is true! Just v different to what we have had before

That sounds perfect. I think 200m to the nearest neighbour is really nice because you won't be alone but also you are totally private.

We looked at a house in a similar situation (12 mins to town/school/shop) but I don't know if I can face driving everyone everywhere for the next 20 years!

Sounds wonderful to me (assuming you drive)!

AgnesX · 15/05/2025 12:39

Don't suppose it's anywhere near Glasgow 😁

DrEllie · 15/05/2025 12:39

Sounds like bliss. Ring (or other brand) doorbell. A dog or two perhaps? A landline as well as a mobile just in case of emergencies?

HelpMeGetThrough · 15/05/2025 12:39

Our next move will be no neighbours at all. Perfect!!!

Yes v used to driving everywhere as our last house was 25mins to the nearest town (but in a decent size village)
