To be nervous to buy a house with no immediate neighbours

Hello

we are house hunting and have seen a house that ticks all the boxes other than it is not in a village setting we are used to. My partner thinks it is perfect!
closest neighbour is about 200m down the road. Nearest town is less than 10 mins drive to the centre. There is a big Waitrose 5 mins away. Opposite (these are down a drive) a big golf course and tennis club.

would you be scared having no immediate neighbours?

thank you

@Mum2HC if you don’t want it, I’ll have it 😜

It would be lovely to have no neighbours xx

Yerdug · 15/05/2025 16:57

Scared? No, I'd be delighted.

Itsjustgonenoonhalfpastmonsoon · 15/05/2025 17:06

I’d love to live in a house with no immediate neighbours. However, I’d rather live in a house with nice NDNs just so it didn’t feel too isolating,

ChristmasFluff · 15/05/2025 17:07

I would hate to be so far away from people! I'm quite isolated here, but it is a small town community and I have neighbours.

It's one of those communities where people pull together. They are not so uncommon even now, and I grew up in one. I've just got back from cleaning for one of my elderly neighbours, and I do shopping for another one. My neighbours were invaluable when I had a flood one Christmas at 2am.

I would feel a little uneasy being so far from others because at the moment, if I scream, there are plenty of people who might hear, and if I disappeared, my neighbours would wonder where I was. I actually have a neighbour who texts to see if I am ok if I forget to open my curtains!

Generally I've always had lovely neighbours my whole life though - with a couple of notable exceptions!

okydokethen · 15/05/2025 17:08

This is exactly my set up and I LOVE it!

I always saw no neighbours as a real perk, kids and dogs can be noisy, DH can do building work without worry, I can potter without feeling overlooked, no polite chit chat required, no taking in parcels or other people annoying noise and no difficulty parking - it’s my dream come true!

godmum56 · 15/05/2025 17:10

Buy it and give it to meeeeeeee

Chilldrill · 15/05/2025 17:11

Is it just that you're getting bad vibes? If so think twice, otherwise get security lights cameras etc. and you're good, very jealous btw

Cookiecrumblepie · 15/05/2025 17:11

Yeah this sounds fab. Get a dog to protect your house. Live in peaceful bliss.

Reliablesource · 15/05/2025 17:21

I wouldn’t like it if I was going to live there alone, or if my husband was going to regularly be away overnight.

Also maybe depends on your age. You can drive now but may not be fit to drive in your later years and then you’ll be more isolated if you can’t drive to the nearest town.

However, 200m is not that far away - is the neighbour’s house within sight? If they were a mile away, that would be different.

On a positive note, there’s a LOT to be said for having no neighbours close by: no neighbour disputes/ noise/interference/parking problems, etc

Taking the dream of no neighbours to the extreme there’s always islands for sale .
I could easily put up with the cold for one of these

It looks like the scene of a horror movie where nobody can hear you scream 😱

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 15/05/2025 17:29

If you don't go for it, let me know where it is , please !

Anyone lands on my beach and I’ll be screaming at them for all the right reasons
😄

Dogs are great for security and company

Yes, a few people suggested that. My cat may have objected though!

mindutopia · 15/05/2025 17:36

This is very similar to our house except no golf/tennis club, thank god, and we are probably 1/4 mile down a track from the road. It’s fantastic! We specifically search for a house that wasn’t anywhere near anyone else. No one bothers you and if anyone does come down the drive at night, the security lights and cctv cameras turn them right around. I love it. Peace and quiet!

Oh well you have a cat
I find mine are much better at checking out ( scratching and hissing at ) strangers than our dog ( who just wants to make everyone his best friend )

So job done Springtime

mepipesneedlagging · 15/05/2025 17:38

Oh that sounds perfect. Parts of Cheshire are like that. I'll be moving when I win the Lotto 🥰

12345mummy · 15/05/2025 18:04

Sounds like the dream AND you will never have to worry about neighbours hearing you shouting talking to the kids in the garden

Wednesdayisme · 15/05/2025 18:08

DrPrunesqualer · 15/05/2025 16:18

Well @Wednesdayisme

Ive spotted an island with
seals !!!!
7 properties

Perfect... Deal!!!

thenarnianna · 15/05/2025 18:11

That sounds idyllic. Just put up cameras and make sure you have good locks.

kalokagathos · 15/05/2025 18:58

I would love this!!

Feetinthegrass · 15/05/2025 19:07

I wonder how many of those posts actually spend the winter in rural settings?! There is a lot of idealisation going on here! Check it has WiFi op, and make sure you have torches, batteries, candies, logs and a month worth of food as standard.

I do live in the country.
In fact I couldn’t reply to Wednesday earlier as I lost Wi-Fi and the electrics went out ( overhead cables ) 🤣🤣

Nb: candles and matches always in my pockets 😁

I used to live on an an otherwise uninhabited island! Just seals and sheep. Enough power from a small wind turbine to fuel a grudge and a plug socket. Cut off for weeks at a time in bad weather. I loved it. But if the OP is nervous at the mere idea of being 200 metres from neighbours, I don’t think the house is for her.

okydokethen · 15/05/2025 19:33

Ps - I love the dark and the silence, I find it really relaxing when it’s pitch black, it’s woodlandy and you can hear owls..but friends have said they would find it creepy, so it doesn’t suit everyone!

Sorry, fuel a FRIDGE! There was no one to have a grudge against!😀
