To ask what you use as deodorant?

I've always just used cheap roll ons, I don't sweat much but I want to smell fresh as I work closely with others.

However, I've been seeing all these new fancy deodorants in the supermarkets lately and they're just so expensive and I'm scared to try one in case they're rubbish because I can buy ten of my regular deodorant for the price of one of these - I'm really skeptical that their performance matches my existing roll on. Is this the way the world is going though? Is it worth giving them a shot? Or are you one of these people who genuinely somehow don't even need to use any? I've had a couple of colleagues who whiff every so often, and I really don't want to. Its a bit of a shameless request for people's experiences before I go and potential waste my money.

Fussy coconut hypoallergenic one. Put it on after morning and evening shower.

Wild one for my feet as I have loads and it gave me a rash so I use it on my feet now.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 13/05/2025 19:47

Wild

I was fortunate enough to capture a bager in my garden, well I say garden maybe more a wildlife preserve, anyway I rub it's bttm (not sure I can use words like that on here) under my arms and RESULT! you don't get a wiff of the old Body Odour (B.O.) although to be fair I do get some snarely looks from Jack Russells.

Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks.

I've actually started making my own as well so maybe will stick with that (I just use coconut oil, bicarb of soda and arrowroot powder with essential oil).

@RaspberryBeretxx would you mind sharing the recipe you use please? I tried making my own years ago but found it hard to get the balance of bicarbonate of soda right, to stop smells but not too strong that it irritated my armpits.

Op - I am using Earth Conscious deodorant stick at the moment from my local health food shop. It works well for me. I've also used wild and that worked well. The pitrock type alum stone/ crystal ones work ok but I found it a bit of a pain applying to damp skin and letting it dry before getting dressed.

olympicsrock · 13/05/2025 19:50

I used Dove cream stick for 15 years ( job where I sweat a lot ) . It stopped working at perimenopause and I now use Mitchum cream stick which is awesome

Shinyandnew1 · 13/05/2025 20:01

Mitchum Powder fresh stick-I've used it for years and it works really well. I haven't noticed any change in formula.

Coconutter24 · 13/05/2025 20:07

If your usual roll on works for you then why change it and spend more money on one?

I used this recipe most recently. I know what you mean about the bicarb of soda though. You could start with 2 tablespoons of that then melt it down again and add one more if it wasn’t doing enough.

Heavy sweater here. Driclor twice a week and Dove Advanced spray every day is what works best for me. Used Mitchum stick for years but bizarrely it stopped working and was actually making me more sweaty/smelly!

Lost20211 · 13/05/2025 20:47

Salt of The Earth Unscented Crystal. Works amazingly (got strong body odour).

Genevieva · 13/05/2025 20:48

Whatever’s in special offer, but I buy my teenage kids aluminium free deodorant.

TooFancyNancy · 13/05/2025 20:52

I always used to use whatever was cheapest, usually an Aldi spray antiperspirant, and theyve always worked brilliantly for me, but since being pregnant I noticed that most antiperspirants were not very effective.
I’ve found the sure maximum protection or Mitchum ultimate are the most effective for me at the moment!
also I think making sure you’ve washed and thoroughly scrubbed your armpits properly with actual bar soap and not just rubbing on shower gel makes the biggest difference for me.

Thanks very much @RaspberryBeretxx I'll give it a go. It does work out so much cheaper to make your own. 😀

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 13/05/2025 20:59

Awake organics Moon Goo is my absolute fave and keeps me.l stinky free. I do find tha my skin gets a bit irritated at times so I try once a week or so to use one of their bicarb free ones but it needs to be a carefully chosen gentle day or a day I'll be in the garden and then going for a swim or something so washing in the day else I will pong.

cherrycola66 · 13/05/2025 21:00

Driclor, I have hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) this is the only thing that makes me not sweat!

sweetpickle2 · 13/05/2025 21:03

I've loved Fussy for the last couple of years, the scents are amazing, but since perimenopause they don't cut the mustard and I refuse to stink.

I've had to go back to Sure Maximum protection, and clearly I need the aluminium and the chemicals because I never whiff now.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/05/2025 21:04

Wild for environmental reasons (and the amount it cost pales into insignificance in comparison to what I spend on the garden/wine/shoes).

curlywurlymum · 13/05/2025 21:07

Try Akt. I bought it because I have 2 teens and my body smell changed with perimenopause. Incredible stuff, it won so many awards. I don’t understand how it works but nobody in our house smells at all anymore.

sweetpickle2 · 13/05/2025 21:12

I used Akt for a while @curlywurlymum and agree it was great- had to cancel though as it started going grainy in the colder weather because of winterisation (which Akt confirmed is an issue). Shame as I really loved it otherwise!

Oh, it’s definitely a little grainy. We’re on our first tube and nobody questioned it, we thought that’s just how the formula is. As long as it does the job I don’t mind it, it ‘melts’ nicely on the skin with rubbing.

sweetpickle2 · 13/05/2025 21:25

They did say they were changing the formula when I spoke to them- when it was grainy for me no amount of rubbing in changed it, and it was very different to when I first started buying it. Glad it's working for you, I really did love it!

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 13/05/2025 21:41

Dove clean comfort men's stick antiperspirant. DH was told to stop using anything when he had radiotherapy and just hadn't started using anything again so I'm using up all the bulk bought dove sticks he had. It does contain aluminium. I hate waste so can't chuck them. I tried Fussy and liked it, but wasn't sure it was worth the money as I seemed to go though them quickly. Plus the case annoys me as it won't just stand up if I'm not careful about putting it down, keeps falling over.
When I've finally run out I'm going to get one of those crystal rock ones I think.
I'm pretty sweaty, but rarely actually smelly.

Was it also you that permanently cured foot odour by using dead roadkill hedgehogs for slippers for a month around harvest time?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 14/05/2025 01:53

Mitchum stick( powder fresh if I can find it)
I was surprised that I hardly sweat, post menopause.

MarxistMags · 14/05/2025 02:07

I use Dove roll on and supermarket aerosol.
I've never had to shave legs or underarms for some reason, think it's to do with my thyroid, so don't think I've ever been a sweaty Betty.
