Little happy things...

Tell me your little happy things. Little gains. Little pockets of joy. So needed now!

Mine:

  • Had an amazing hair cut today - haven't had my hair cut in about six months at least, but this place opened on my doorstep and gave me a 20% discount as a new customer and an extra 10% on top for being a local resident - I have a fringe for the first time in a decade and I love it. Plus a customer walking in said: "Oh I want perm curls like her"... it's not a perm, it's usually candyfloss, but it's all natural! Made me feel amazing.
  • I'm off to Bath on Sunday for an awards ceremony where I am nominated for script writing - definitely won't win, the competition is fierce and I am an amateur but just being part of the whole thing and rubbing shoulders will be fun - first time wearing heels in forever! (Hence new haircut!)

What are your little happy things? PS. If I don't respond for a bit it's because I am headed to Boots to get some hair stuff to keep my new 'do' nice for Sunday!

I bought short length jeans but they arrived shorter than advertised. I bought the longer version hopping they'd also be shorter than advertised but they were infuriatingly correct and far too long for me.
I would pop into the shop occasionally and measure some jeans but they were all consistently either too long or too short.
So I decided to order the longer ones and have them shortened.
They arrived today. Shorter than advertised. Even shorter than the advertised short jeans. However, they were perfect length for me!

A personal miracle.

YABU to say it’s a little thing to be nominated for script-writing - that’s huge! Congratulations!

Hollowvoice · 09/05/2025 17:58

Simple things, I'm sitting in the sunny corner of my garden with a glass of wine. Food in the oven awaiting arrival of friends.

Aww thanks so much! I really appreciate it. I wouldn't even have had the guts to submit something without the support of my local writing group. So this all feels amazing and strange at the same time. Won't win as have googled the other finalist and he literally does it for a living and his entry will have been so much more polished. But it's a day out rubbing shoulders with people which is ace.

All my washing is done and line dried. Now I know thats not unusual in good weather but it’s a big thing for me as we didnt have any outside space in our last flat …
My grandson is coming to stay next weekend and I am beyond excited. Ive bought him way too many toys and treats and I dont care

Wonderful - I have a ground floor flat with a terrace which is right on the water, have always lived in upper floor apartments, so totally understand the outside space issue. It makes a huge difference. Love your excitement for next weekend!

Im picking what house to buy at the moment.
They range from £10 up wards and i have to build it it comes with lights and all the furnisher.
But then i like the little shops and book shop as well this could be the start of the making of a small town.

smallglassbottle · 09/05/2025 18:04

I spent £18 on a handbag yesterday. First one I've had for about 15 years. I love it and have been carrying it everywhere and I can clean my glasses when I'm out and about now 😂

Calypsocuckoo · 09/05/2025 18:05

Today I stripped the bed, washed the sheets, line dried them and put them back on the bed, smelling lovely and all soft and smooth. I cannot wait to put on clean pyjamas and get in bed later. And it’s Friday, I love going to bed on a Friday with no alarm set. I love having small things to look forwards to.

Is that for a model village? What a lovely project, and what lovely choices to make!

I love that you love it! It's great when you find something that fits with your lifestyle so nicely, nothing like a good handbag. I bought a secondhand crossbody bag on eBay last month and I take it everywhere, it's the best thing ever. Long may you enjoy your new purchase!

I had some lovely drop earring I wore for my wedding and lost them as I left them in a hotel. I managed to find a pair on eBay and replace them. Scrolling through eBay last night I managed to find a vintage exactly the same type and they were brand new so ordered them too. So happy with my dangly drop pearl earring.

Also my son has been in pain for ages with a baby tooth that wouldn’t come out. He loves his dentist and we managed to get an emergency trip today. It wasn’t easy to get it out but they both distracted him, numbed it and were generally chatty and nice to him. He did hurt after and it wasn’t an easy extraction but Larry (the dentist) waved him off for his McDonald’s and a few chicken nuggets, coke and paracetamol (none of those he has normally!) later my son says it doesn’t hurt and he’s ok. Thank you nhs for a lovely dentist Larry!

I totally agree with you, I put my sheets in the wash before I left the house today and looking forward to crawling in to them later. Small things are so underrated aren't they?

Just took my dog to the park, like everyday, but seeing him running around and living his best life never gets old.

Oh bless him - well done Larry! Also baby teeth are baby teeth, they need to come out one way or another and if he needed help (and then treats after) nothing wrong with that at all.

Also amazing about the earrings - it's always a worry ordering online isn't it as the photo might not be the same as the reality, but so pleased for you that they were - now you need to book in a date night to wear them!

I ordered a swimsuit online and it arrived today. I tried it on and absolutely loved it. Even went downstairs to show it off to my partner and daughter. Have been on a very slow weight loss journey over the last 18 months and finally feel comfortable enough in my own skin to parade around the house in a swimming cozzie.

Watching the birds in the garden having a bath/shower in the water feature, best part was watching the brand new fledgling Starlings joining in
