Little happy things...

Tell me your little happy things. Little gains. Little pockets of joy. So needed now!

Mine:

  • Had an amazing hair cut today - haven't had my hair cut in about six months at least, but this place opened on my doorstep and gave me a 20% discount as a new customer and an extra 10% on top for being a local resident - I have a fringe for the first time in a decade and I love it. Plus a customer walking in said: "Oh I want perm curls like her"... it's not a perm, it's usually candyfloss, but it's all natural! Made me feel amazing.
  • I'm off to Bath on Sunday for an awards ceremony where I am nominated for script writing - definitely won't win, the competition is fierce and I am an amateur but just being part of the whole thing and rubbing shoulders will be fun - first time wearing heels in forever! (Hence new haircut!)

What are your little happy things? PS. If I don't respond for a bit it's because I am headed to Boots to get some hair stuff to keep my new 'do' nice for Sunday!

Today I stripped the bed, washed the sheets, line dried them and put them back on the bed, smelling lovely and all soft and smooth. I cannot wait to put on clean pyjamas and get in bed later. And it’s Friday, I love going to bed on a Friday with no alarm set. I love having small things to look forwards to.

That is the definition of bliss!

I ordered a swimsuit online and it arrived today. I tried it on and absolutely loved it. Even went downstairs to show it off to my partner and daughter. Have been on a very slow weight loss journey over the last 18 months and finally feel comfortable enough in my own skin to parade around the house in a swimming cozzie.

Bloody well done! Wish I could do that!

MiloMinderbinder925 · 09/05/2025 18:51

Congratulations that's a huge achievement. All the best on the night.

I had my place deep cleaned yesterday and I'm extremely happy.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 09/05/2025 18:52

This is gonna sound weird but I finished therapy yesterday - it's because I've changed locations so they can't offer it to me anymore.

I feel good about it! And today I've vowed to move forwards! To really work to let the past go! God, it's enough looking back and being sad about stuff from over a decade ago!

In therapy, i realised that the past is sad but I can't keep on rehashing it!

So that's my little thing - looking forwards

Also, got some wine tonight, a pasta bake with aubergines instead of pasta (sounds crap but is delicious!) And will watch eastenders whilst moaning about how boring it is 🥰

Moier · 09/05/2025 18:59

I bought a new swim dress 3 sizes smaller than my last one and it fits perfectly. ( Thankyou Mounjaro).
👍😄👍

Our local busker played a song I used to love (and still do) that I hadn't thought about in years.

I have been so happy all week because it is May - my favourite time of year. Everywhere is green, there are loads of flowers, they smell lovely, and there is the prospect of the summer ahead. Happy, happy, happy!

Reading a magazine today in my garden in the warm sunshine with a cornetto

Diversion · 09/05/2025 20:26

My DH had the day off work today and did the housework so we do not need to do it tomorrow. We also had a BBQ tea in the garden which is looking lovely and all the birds tweeting and chirping away in the background. I have found a lovely sounding recipe for rhubarb cake which I intent to make tomorrow now there is very little housework to do, just need to pick the rhubarb so its lovely and fresh.

I just stretched out on the sofa and my cat jumped up and curled up on my lap in such a way that i can feel her little heart beating against my thigh💕

My peppers and tomato plants have their first flowers in the greenhouse. I’ve grown boots before but this is my first summer with a greenhouse AND an allotment. I’m so excited every day about seeing how things have grown.

Today I got two pink blueberry bushes. I’m looking forward to see my grandsons face as the fruit as “boobears” are his favourite fruit.

imacroissantgirl · 10/05/2025 04:02

I have a robin nesting in a box I put up 18 months ago and a peony I inherited is about to flower a beautiful deep red. Two nature firsts for me and I’m thrilled.

gollyimholly · 10/05/2025 04:20
  • cuddling my two year old to sleep and wondering how many more opportunities I'll get like this before she's a big girl! And feeling utterly in love and happy that this is who I get to call my DD.
  • accidentally fell asleep while putting DD to sleep and woke to find DH had cleaned up all of the downstairs.
  • making a new recipe and feeling excited about how it's going to turn out (it's a two day recipe!)
  • DH surprising me by planting my favourite flowers in the garden and in perfect view from the kitchen window.

Edit to add: OP thank you for making this thread. I love reading about all the little things that make people happy. It's so nice to have something happy in the sea of so many negative things.

GarlicPile · 10/05/2025 04:32

Rich tea biscuits. This is really pathetic but I find them comforting! I'm having a tricky week (nothing massive, just ongoing health crap) and cheering myself up with too many strong pod coffees and way too many biscuits.
Well, you did say small things 🍪

Fantastic, that's an amazing achievement, congratulations. Here's hoping there is a nice holiday coming up in your near future where you can parade around in it to your heart's content!

Watching the birds in the garden having a bath/shower in the water feature, best part was watching the brand new fledgling Starlings joining in

I love watching birds going about their business, they're fascinating. My parents have lots of little birds in their garden and they're the sweetest little things. I liven a coastal city and I have a massive soft spot for seagulls, but I know that puts me in the minority probably!

Thank you - less than 24 hours to go, getting a bit excited now!

Oh I bet you are, I would be too - enjoy it! Also great time of the year to get it done - proper spring clean!

Not weird at all, that is a milestone - you've done so much work and the fact that you're able to reflect back on things and not to want to return to that space, shows how far you have come. Hope your meal was lovely - I managed to pick up some reduced mozzarella and pesto balls in M&S earlier as well as some reduced cherry tomatoes, so I am REALLY looking forward to having those later with a bit of basil and olive oil. Nom nom nom! Honestly you've done so well, here's to looking forward!

Fantastic, thank you Mounjaro but also well done willpower, it isn't a magic wand! Such a great feeling when you're a bit trepidatious about something fitting but it goes on like a glove - bet it looks fab.

That's so lovely, it really puts a spring in your step and a smile on your face doesn't it? We had a music festival in my city last weekend and I was walking to the shop to get some bits when a remixed blast of Insomnia by Faithless rang out across the bay and it instantly transported me back to passing my driving test as it was the first song that came on the radio during my first solo drive - must have been number one in the charts at the time. (Yes I am old!)

I am like that with apple turnovers with cream in them. I am dribbling typing this! Hope that you get to have one this weekend (or more than one why not?!)

It is so beautiful going out in nature at the moment isn't it? I went to my poetry group this morning and our theme was 'May Day' - lots of verse about the prospect of summer and plants blooming. Blooming lovely really! So glad you are happy, happy, happy!
