Does any of you have fine, straight hair, the type of hair that doesn’t really do much other than just drape there?

Plus point if it also gets oily literally in few hours.

Have you found any solutions how to make it look better?

My hair is pretty long, down to my middle back, but it doesn’t look like much because it’s so thin. I don’t want short hair, can’t have chin lenght because of my face shape, I just don’t know what do it with it, other than french braid and a bun. Waves, nevermind curls do not last, my hair just goes back to straight or gets really messy looking and products just dry up the ends.

Please help!

Me! Shorter is better for me it's a long bob at the moment. But still just hangs there!! Even if I blow dry or curl it it drops straight out!

Doggymummar · 08/05/2025 15:02

My hair is poker straight and you can't do anything with it. Nor greasy tho, I just wash once a week usually. I'm thinking if trying the colour wow products but they need to be on sale.

It's bra strap length and I have a weave for thickness. The weave is wavy so kills two birds

Yep, mine too 😫!

I’ve also tried so many root lifting products, but it’s my hair just insist on looking like a cow just licked them to my scalp…

Yes, that's exactly my hair when it's long, limp, flyaway and greasy less than a day after washing.

I love my pixie cut!

Changingplace · 08/05/2025 15:04

Yes mine, but mine is so fine I can’t grow it longer than shoulder length or it breaks.

I find a longer bob type style with a long fringe is the only thing I can really do with it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/05/2025 15:05

I like it longer so dry shampoo is my friend.

Or move to a very very humid country. Mine looks glorious in Central America!

YankSplaining · 08/05/2025 15:06

Mine isn’t oily, but it’s fine and straight and just sort of hangs there. I get it permed.

YankSplaining · 08/05/2025 15:07

Should probably note that I have thick fine hair, not thin fine hair.

Nevertrustacop · 08/05/2025 15:07

Yes. I have a chin length bob with a few layers at the back where it is at its thickest. If I wash it every day it looks passable. Fortunately I can wash and leave and it does it's own thing.

allhailtheeyeballsinthesky · 08/05/2025 15:09

I have a choppy bob, with lots of layers cut in, which gives a bit of body and doesn't look quite so flat it's also going a bit grey which is now giving me a bit of curl so I'm actually quite happy about it

5128gap · 08/05/2025 15:09

If you like waves or curls, could you try a perm? They're back again and more gentle now and will give you volume and dry up the greasies.

Same here.

noctilucentcloud · 08/05/2025 15:12

Yes I have hair like this.

KeepTalkingBeth · 08/05/2025 15:20

I wear mine bra strap length. Lots of layers which gives it more body. I am taking hair vitamins and it's looking a bit thicker and stronger these days.

artant · 08/05/2025 15:27

My hair is fine (but there’s a lot of it) and left to its own devices quickly defaults to Neil from the Young Ones but I’ve discovered that it’ll give a vague impression of waves if I cut layers into it. So now I’m all about one cut haircuts: head upside down, gather hair into ponytail in front of my face the cut. Scrunching it a bit as it dries helps as does volumising shampoo.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 08/05/2025 15:28

Mine is pretty wavy but still has no body because of how fine it is. I just let it be, it is what it is.

Yes! Mine looked great in the humidity in Bali.

Xiaoxiong · 08/05/2025 15:31

I'm the opposite of everyone here with their layers - I've got my thin, straight and fine hair in a blunt collarbone length bob, and I use a revlon one-step round hair dryer brush to dry and shape it and give it volume at the roots. Takes no more than 5 minutes to dry, as my hair is so fine!

Products are a no-go as I've never found a product that didn't just weigh everything down. So I rely on the hairdrying for volume instead.

BleachedJumper · 08/05/2025 15:31

Yep, this is my hair and I wear extensions for volume, a bit of length and hold.

My hair now sits about an inch or two over my shoulders, but I can actually do things with it. Without the extensions it needs daily washing (annoying, but not the end of the world as 3 strands of thin hair don’t take much to wash and dry) where now I can go 5/7 days between washes, and styling it in waves or curls will hold for 3/4 days.

InBedBy10 · 08/05/2025 15:39

Yep, long, flat, thin, greasy hair.

No advice as nothing I have tried works 😭
Recently I've been seriously considering getting it cut in a bob or to just above the shoulder. Just because it's so thin I don't think the long hair is doing me any favours. But I love long hair so torn at the minute.

Lakeyloo · 08/05/2025 15:43

Very thin/ fine, very straight, and my fringe grows upwards in a cow lick.😩 Won't hold any kind of curl or wave. I still remember having a bridesmaids head dress Sellotaped to my hair as a child as the hair grips kept sliding out.
I've found that there is no point in growing mine below a chin/collar length bob. It looks much healthier and thicker a bit shorter. I have dark blonde hair and i find going a shade or 2 darker makes it look thicker. Hair products seem to weigh it down more but i have started taking collagen and i swear its made a difference. I also use coco & eve thickening shampoo and conditioner and i think that helps too.

Horticula · 08/05/2025 15:44

Shorter hair is the way to go. I'm sure your face shape would be absolutely fine with a bob, absolutely loads of people with all sorts of facial shapes have one. It then looks like a proper style rather than just limply hanging there.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 08/05/2025 15:44

Dry shampoo to the roots immediately after hair drying to bone dry. In the morning the tappy in dry powder that gives body. Only a little, right at the root, then very lightly towsle the roots with your fingers. I use super drug volume powder, or any volumising dusting powder. Done for five years now. Life changing.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/05/2025 15:49

I have a shoulder length Rachel cut type thing and a fringe. I think very long and all one length is the absolute worst way to deal with this type of hair, sorry.

Garnier Ultimate Blends watermelon volumising shampoo is the best shampoo I've ever found for my hair type, with a little bit of dry shampoo on days 2 and 3 after washing, then wash again on day 4.

Augustus40 · 09/05/2025 08:42

If you dry your hair upside down it may help. Lower your head and dry it that way. It may give more body.
