Just17 magazine and Rufus the model

Random bored Wednesday afternoon work discussion...

Just17 magazine used to regularly feature a model called Rufus. One person had his picture all over her wall. Another person thought he was odd looking.

We need to settle who was right! 🤣 (From a teenage girl point of view, not an adult woman perving over a topless young model! Otherwise eww!)

Who was Rufus?
Is he still a model?
Was he poster worthy or odd looking?

Personally I had no opinion on him. If he wasn't David Duchovny, I wasn't interested. 😂

YABU - I fancied him
YANBU - Nah, I'd skip those pages

Malcolm was just gawjuss back then. I would have been 16 in 1993 so prime hormonal age for good looking lads!

Maaate · 07/05/2025 15:11

Malcolm was dreamy 😍

there was also a female model they used a lot called Cher IIRC?

Yup, she had great brows.

And there was Terri who ended up in a relationship with Simon Cowel for years.

"Just Seventeen magazine" https://www.facebook.com/JustSeventeenMagazine/

I bet you the woman on here has photos...

What??

MrsFrumble · 07/05/2025 15:27

Didn’t Rufus look a bit like Dexter Fletcher?

Personally I had no opinion on him. If he wasn't David Duchovny, I wasn't interested.

Ha ha, I can relate to this. Although I’m currently rewatching the X Files with my kids and I’ve obviously gone a bit bisexual in my old age because this time around it’s Gillian Anderson that I can’t take my eyes off. My god, she’s beautiful 😍

twilightcafe · 07/05/2025 15:27

I'd llke you all to know that I did work experience at more! magazine in the 90s. Enjoyed every minute - including the daily male model castings!

What??

I’ve trawled through this account in the past! Loads of J17 magazine scans. I think she was a writer.

Clarasmum444 · 07/05/2025 16:04

I don't remember Malcolm or Rufus but I do remember Alex Santos, he was gorgeous. Off to look at the J17 fb page now and reminisce....

Arniesaxe · 07/05/2025 16:06

Yes! I mentioned how sad I felt when finding out what had happened to her once her singing career dwindled. I am not much into dance music but I did love one song she did. I googled her years after the J17 days just out of curiosity and found it.

InglouriousBasterd · 07/05/2025 16:10

I loved Dan Corsi. Think he was more Sugar / Bliss? I met him at the Clothes Show Live in about 1998 and he kissed me on the cheek, best day ever!

minipie · 07/05/2025 16:10

Don’t remember any of these

I do remember James Layton

I want to be Gillian Anderson. She has this amazing air of calm confidence about her.

There are old pictures of her in her underwear. They came up when I was searching for the picture of DD with a teacup covering his penis - 🤣 - and it's just so innocent. She's just poising awkwardly with bad 90s hair and a poorly fitted pretty bra on. No pouting, squeezing clevage together or trying to be sexy (although it was obviously the aim) etc.

I rewatched the X Files piling a few months ago. It was so booooooring! 🤣 I wasn't allowed to watch X Files at home so used to go to my friend's house to watch it and we'd go through her mum's Radio Times to cut out any pictures of him.

This thread is making me laugh. Malcolm was Cassius in Mizz...I actually remember going to the Mizz Male Model Roadshow in Crawley. What an event. I think Malcolm did a bit of telly in the following years too...I have an enduring vision of him in tight black leather pants with an oversized white t-shirt.

We need a picture of Rufus. I've got a feeling he was an actor.

How did I miss this?! I grew up in Horsham so right next door

I did go to the Clothes Show Live a few years on the trot. I was convinced I would be spotted simply bc I was 5ft9

Yes!! She sounded like a 60 a day smoker😲

Gahdammit · 07/05/2025 16:26

Was the agony aunt called Flic? (Presumably Felicity?) There was a male one too. Simon?
I was fascinated by how many readers they had called "Anon". 🤣 It took me much longer than it should have taken to realise it was short for anonymous.

Did you have to pose Barbie and Action Man? 🤣

I was never a fan of More tbh.

Oh god , Malcolm! That brings back memories.

Looking at his picture I’ve just had the realisation (as a 50 year old) that a particularly shitty former partner looked a lot Malcolm. Clearly the subliminal Malcolm imprint from my teens made me put up with way more crap than I should have done 😂

They always had the same group of male and female models that they featured a lot. Roger (?) was a regular too I think. For the girls, I definitely remember Terri with the gorgeous hair, who went on to date Simon Cowell. There was another regular who starred in a Terence Trent D’arby video and dated him for a while too. Honestly, the irrelevant crap my brain manages to retain!

Maybe, the agony aunt I recall was called Anita Naik and the uncle was Nick Fisher.
I remember my dad getting a bit concerned when he saw the contents of a problem page special on contraception. My mother reminded him it's better i read it than ignored it.
Besides, I was 13 and had a really deep fringe and no chest. It wasn't going to happen.

Workissuestoo · 07/05/2025 16:37

I remember all my friends LOVED these models. I was obsessed with Taylor Hanson though and quickly found myself very isolated due to that when it came to discussing boys 😂😂

Flic Everett? I definitely remember Anita Naik as the agony aunt (late ‘80s/early ‘90s) and Nick Fisher was the agony uncle. He went on to make programmes about fishing with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and was a script writer. He seemed a bit of a troubled soul and passed away a few years ago.

Yes, I think there was of a lot of fluff and stupid stuff in Just17 but the sex stuff was well done (from what I remember as someone who also had BAD hair and the same trainers as my gran).

🤯🤯😂😂😂 What the heck?!? That’s amazing! Imagine the artistic director on that shoot; “Now David, if you can just balance this tea cup on your schlong, while proffering this tea pot with a beseeching expression on you face like Mrs Doyle from Father Ted… Perfect!”
