Am I unreasonable to feel sorry for Victoria and David beckham over the so called ‘rift’ with their son, which Victoria says is her worst nightmare. I know from experience how this situation can get out of hand and how heartbreaking it is when a beloved child breaks contact with their parents .

naturally the media is blaming the woman!

I do feel sorry for them. Ok, if they are an overbearing family who are always in your business, then yes, I can totally understand his need to distance himself and focus on his own ‘family’. However, I do think she’s using him. Even though she’s a billionaire’s daughter, who ever heard of her before she started hanging around with him and his family . Yes, she might have money but he’s got a world famous name albeit because of his parents. She’s very ambitious and the networking potential of that name is something money can’t buy. I think when he is of no use to her, he’s going to come crawling back.

Where’s the evidence for the craven ambition? They’ve been married a few years now & she’s not put her head markedly above the parapet with any high publicity project.

I think more likely they’ve bonded over being ‘failed’ rich kid outsiders. More positively? Found a solidarity with each other.

I think that's bs to be honest. I think given all of her wealth, it is highly more likely that they have a genuine connection.

There are things to be curious about such as nature, the universe, existentialism, wars, etc.
The ins and out the day to day life of a girl from a small hertfordshire town and her essex husband and nepo kids are something intelligent humans give a shit about

Yeah, but most people just like a good nosey and a gossip.

Eastie77Returns · 15/05/2025 14:54

I don’t know/care what the alleged rift is about.

What has always puzzled me is D&V are obsessed with personal grooming, looking stylish etc yet their eldest son did not get the memo. He always looks like he needs a hot shower and the hair needs a good wash.

BoudiccaRuled · 15/05/2025 14:55

@User14March @luckylavender
Apologies, yes, I think you are right.
Victoria definitely has something, and maybe it is just sheer work ethic and burning ambition.
What I meant was, she isn't extraordinarily talented like David was. She absolutely has worked hard and made the most of what she has though.
And people say she's fun. (But again, most humans are fun, that in itself is nothing special.)

She’s apparently witty & decent too, sadly not that common. Also was David really extraordinarily talented or did he have high natural ability & is living embodiment of the ten thousand hour rule?

Either way what’s slightly odd as good parents who’ve modelled ‘graft’ kids haven’t copied as yet? Maybe Harper will go to Uni as I imagine her school friends will.

David does dishevelled at times but he’s in very good shape so no one notices.

It’s a bit odd particularly when young men these days make so much more effort with their grooming. Is it possible that he struggles with his mental health or something? I know we say that a lot these days but when my ds ( who is the same age) was feeling low and worrying about his future, he wouldn’t make much effort with his appearance. Once he felt his life was on track, he really shaped up.

Does he really look that bad at red carpet events? He’s on trend I think & if dazzlingly handsome no one would bat an eye.

Come on, he played for the best football clubs in the world! Almost half of English children play football, there is nothing comparable in Europe (and probably whole world) when it comes to the amount of talent and hard work that is needed to even get to be a professional, not mentioning playing for Man U, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

They don’t have to get ‘bog standard’ jobs, though. They have the immense luxury of being able to afford the best education money can buy, to study absolutely anything, anywhere in the world, and to choose, if they wanted, ill-paid or insecure but enormously interesting and difficult to get into jobs where you need to be able to support yourself though multiple unpaid internships or similar to get your foot in the door, or live from project to project. If a Beckham child wanted to study art at the Courtauld and Florence and then train as a paper restaurator or open a Mayfair gallery or specialise in jewels for Sothebys, they could, or buy an estate and rewild it and open a centre for habitat conservation, or run it as an animal sanctuary, or direct operas.

I don't think they have the brains or talent to do anything exceptional. I don't either, I'm not being rude (well, not very rude). With all the money in the world, I probably would not achieve anything remarkable. Most humans are fairly basic!

BruFord · 15/05/2025 15:10

I think that Brooklyn will be fine whatever happens. Right now, he's living well with his wife's billionaire family; if it all falls apart, he can turn to his wealthy family for support.

I do feel some sympathy for V&B, but growing up in the limelight isn't great for children.

I was surprised to learn about how many hundreds of hours he put in day after day kicking etc, improving, not great at first to win Dad over etc. No one could ‘bend it like Beckham’ as a result.

Would any other eventual prof footballer be very similar?

Agree though of course he had considerable talent.

Do his family give him an allowance? Wondering who ‘pays’ & therefore who has the soft power? Do the Peltzs give Nicola considerably more. Assuming they can’t finance own lives here but perhaps not case (?).

@User14March Who knows?! All I mean is that he’s hardly going to be destitute whatever he decides to do/whether or not his marriage works out long term. Of course money isn’t everything, but it helps.

I think if they’d had early cultural capital they might have drifted to Art world, Sothebys/Christies etc or specialisms: carpentry (Linley) thatching, but ‘art world’ is & especially was snobbish at core so feeling comfortable there might take a thicker skin.

Victoria has evolved towards that world as time goes on, now RP accent in progress etc, upper middle class taste etc. I think Harper will fare possibly best as a result as she’ll have the social confidence, as parents increasingly do, to be next level in whatever she does.

Yes, but they did put their children in the limelight from the day they were born. It was endless touting them out for Brand Beckham

Cognacsoft · 15/05/2025 15:27

@User14March if you don't understand the sheer talent and genius of Beckham as a footballer then you are not really able to comment on anything football.
