Prince Harry and Brooklyn Beckham

Not a good look for our British families

The Beckhams’ once-flawless brand and PR machine have finally taken a dent.

Will Brooklyn be tempted to write a tell all or speak out, like Harry? Surely the Beckhams have their own skeletons, and you can bet the media will bait Brooklyn until he cracks.

Makes me feel somewhat better about my own dysfunctional family.

I feel for David though, his 50th will have been overshadowed by his son. Give, give, give and in return their first born cannot put differences aside to attend.

AIBU to think that parents who give their kids everything just end up creating entitled brats who are so detached from reality, add little to society and throw it all back in their poor parents faces. should there not be some kind of study, research or guidance on how to stop this happening. The world has enough problems.

what has Brooklyn Beckham done?

shellyleppard · 04/05/2025 20:35

@Brefugee not wished his dad a happy birthday or attended any of David's 50th birthday celebrations......

KidsDoBetter · 04/05/2025 20:36

Not sure two very rich and privileged young men represent all of British families …

But yes. Sad when any families have estrangement.

Brefugee · 04/05/2025 20:34

what has Brooklyn Beckham done?

He tried as a footballer - failed miserably. He tried as a musician - failed spectacularly. He tried as a photographer - failed moderately. He tried as a chef and almost succeeded.

Pancakeflipper · 04/05/2025 20:42

How do we know he didn't wish his dad Happy Birthday ?

@Brefugee not wished his dad a happy birthday or attended any of David's 50th birthday celebrations......

If that's it then there's plenty of reasons for that and in that case you're being OTT OP. Maybe he wished him happy birthday privately and there might be something really personal going on.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2025 20:53

Pmsl at OP assuming we all know whatever he/she's talking about.

Janedoe82 · 04/05/2025 20:59

Bet there are attachment issues.

LizzieSiddal · 04/05/2025 21:01

He has been terribly spoilt. His attempt at photography was shockingly bad and they let him not only put it all in a book but also had a launch party at some very posh place with lots of stars there.
A very fine example of a child never having being told NO.

MidnightPatrol · 04/05/2025 21:01

I’m obviously not at all interested, but what’s happened with Brooklyn Beckham?

Not sure he or Harry’s shenanigans are representative in any way of ‘British families’.

Littledidsheknow · 04/05/2025 21:01

Bizarre that you lump the Beckhams and the RF together!

"Our British families"? I don't think those two families particularly represent anyone other than themselves!

Was just wondering the same Confused

I remember the news headlines when he was born, as if it were a couple of years ago. Can’t believe he’s old enough to be falling out with them already. Can’t believe DB is fifty either, it seems like only recently he was playing for LA Galaxy.

Createausername1970 · 04/05/2025 21:12

I listened to him on Desert Island Disks earlier today. It was an old one, not sure how long ago it was recorded but I think he mentioned being 41, so maybe about 10 years ago.

He came across as a likeable chap and not dim as generally portrayed.

OnArainyNight · 04/05/2025 21:13

Maybe he sent his dad a WhatsApp

QuaintShaker · 04/05/2025 21:17

It probably speaks to the corrosive effect of American influence on family life.

Harry and the Beckhams have moved to a country ruled by a man who raped his ex-wife and buried her body in a barely-marked grave (since neglected and overgrown), whose current wife seems to go out of her way to show repulsed by him, whose neice has carved out a career as a prominent critic, whose mother asked "what kind of son have I created?" and whose sister labelled him unprincipled and cruel.

For some reason, Americans have really come to admire being hated by your own family. It's bound to rub off a bit.

kindnessforthewin · 04/05/2025 21:19

I don’t know about the poster who said he didn’t wish DB a happy birthday. What is clear is that he didn’t fly in for his Dads 50th Birthday celebrations, nor did he acknowledge it publically, which sounds petty normally but for that family, is unusual.

Oh give over, you can blame Trump for many things but it’s a massive stretch to blame him for any alleged estrangement within the Beckham family. Never mind their main family residence is in London, and has been for years!

Do we really care.
Is he worried whether we wished our parents happy birthdays!

Waterbreakingwaves · 04/05/2025 21:23

elephant photo book 😳😳😳. A classic cultural icon.

Really, it makes me feel old but as people get older their primary unit tends to be their partner and children?

Or so many people just build an independent life and dont have a lot to do with parents and siblings. Especially with the cognitive load of managing extra relationships and group dynamics.

Doesn't mean there's a mighty rift or anything dramatic or negative on either side.

I imagine Brooklyns (super rich?) wife probably wants more autonomy and not just to be part of brand Beckham. But that's pretty normal.

Wow, some people can blame anything on us.

What Americans do you know who are proud to be hated by their family? Because I don't know any.

Mistyglade · 04/05/2025 21:24

This is a rare one to reach for the popcorn. The Beckhams PR machine is a well oiled for DBs affairs, I’d love to know what goes on behind their perfectly presented scenes. As for Harry, that’s a totally different ball game.

shellyleppard · 04/05/2025 21:25

@kindnessforthewin that was me who commented about him not wishing his dad a happy birthday. I should have put supposedly on the comments as I'm only going by what I read in the paper

Not wished his dad happy birthday on social media?
Sooo what??
What if he called up his dad and said “happy birthday, dad - I love you!”
Would that count - or no?
