Homemade pizza is not healthy, we’re having a proper dinner.

Dc playing with a neighbour friend, I asked if they wanted to help make homemade pizzas and stay for dinner and to check with the mum.
He came back and said that he wasn’t allowed, my Dc asked ‘Aww, why not?’ and he said that his mum said it wasn’t healthy and that she’d make a proper dinner.

We do this sometimes on Friday/Saturday, Dc enjoy the activity and choosing toppings-passata, mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers, spinach and so on to make funny pizza faces, is this massively unhealthy?!

Well homemade pizza can be healthy if made using a healthy base and fresh ingredients. It can also be quite unhealthy still. But of course either way, even the latter is fine for a weekend treat!
Rude of the mum to say that’s the reason! But maybe she just wanted him home for dinner and had already prepared dinner. It was kind of you to offer.

babasaclover · 03/05/2025 17:16

Depends - is it shop bought dough or do you make it yourself? I do it both ways depending on time : effort I have to give but the shop bought dough is really unhealthy!!! Even if you pick good toppings. Tastes nice though

FrippEnos · 03/05/2025 17:16

YABU for taking the interpretation of what the mum said from a 7 yr old as Gospel.

HScully · 03/05/2025 17:16

It can be as healthy or as unhealthy as you make them, homemade base, thin, lots of veggies easy on the cheese- healthy I eat them like this often,

Bought thick base, dripping in cheese and processed meat - unhealthy

You’ve assumed they had pizza last night, that they have had something in the slow cooker, that OP and this woman don’t get on,

The kid has probably paraphrased exactly what the Mum has said, ie no it’s unhealthy

AquaPeer · 03/05/2025 17:17

It’s just dough, tomato paste and a small
portion of vegetables. It’s not unhealthy but neither is it particularly healthy.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/05/2025 17:18

Pizza is fine.

She's probably a mumsnetter and is obsessed with the nutritional content of every meal.

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 03/05/2025 17:19

I'd be inclined to mention what the child said somehow to the mum as a indirect way of reminding her to be careful what she says in front of kids, they'll hang you 😂
Tbf she didn't say it to you but no doubt was pestered to agree to it and had to explain why they weren't allowed

a PIZZA is not filing?

Where do we stand on soup....🙄

Edited

You absolutely shouldn’t stand on soup. It’s usually quite hot and may burn your feet. Pop it in a bowl and eat it with a spoon.

You’d have also thought it’s not gonna harm him having pizza twice in a row!

This.

UndermyShoeJoe · 03/05/2025 17:21

probably Chinese whispers. Child’s said pizza mums said no.

I mean I wouldn’t say no but pizza dough isn’t technically overly healthy home made or not I’ve seen the calories in the one I make at home and I don’t make it often. Plus each person’s version of cheesy if hugely different. One handful or multiple.

Make our own, what is the shop bought dough? We make our own or have used bases

Nothing wrong with homemade pizza? Homemade dough, passata, italian mozarella and some veg and meat on top! What's unhealty about it?

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 17:23

AquaPeer · 03/05/2025 16:38

It’s not unhealthy (or particularly healthy) but maybe mum just prefers a meal with more variety and nutrition. She didn’t say it was massively unhealthy herself!

bit rude but you know how kids repeat things they shouldn’t

More variety and nutrition?!

godmum56 · 03/05/2025 17:24

pizza (home made) is one of the healthiest meals I eat!

TheShiningHostess · 03/05/2025 17:25

what is the shop bought dough?

It's dough. That you buy in a shop.

interestedwhy · 03/05/2025 17:26

Does she know you’ve actually invited him - I was often worried my son had invited himself !

Homemade Pizza isn’t that bad in my opinion - long as it’s not every night

Ellie1015 · 03/05/2025 17:28

Really rude reply. Expect it is being miscommunicated though mum might have said "no, you've had pizza last night and McDonalds earlier this week I have made a healthy xxxx for tonight."

Do you over-react to everything, or are you just triggered by the pizza situation?

Excuse me? Have you quoted the wrong person?

or.... the mum said it.

If it looks and sounds like a duck, it might be a duck

babasaclover · 03/05/2025 17:28

Then I reckon it will be healthy ish - not UPF.

by shop bought I mean dough that you get in the fridge section it’s already made and rolled so you just unroll it and put toppings on. It’s yum but holy shit over 1000 calories without any toppings so yeah awful health wise.

Homemade pizza is not healthy, we’re having a proper dinner.

The friend probably just said ‘pizza’

doodleschnoodle · 03/05/2025 17:32

We have homemade pizza every week! The dough I make has four ingredients (flour, yeast, salt and water) and then it’s fresh toppings. Then a blast in our pizza oven. It’s our Sat evening meal!
