Homemade pizza is not healthy, we’re having a proper dinner.

Dc playing with a neighbour friend, I asked if they wanted to help make homemade pizzas and stay for dinner and to check with the mum.
He came back and said that he wasn’t allowed, my Dc asked ‘Aww, why not?’ and he said that his mum said it wasn’t healthy and that she’d make a proper dinner.

We do this sometimes on Friday/Saturday, Dc enjoy the activity and choosing toppings-passata, mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers, spinach and so on to make funny pizza faces, is this massively unhealthy?!

I think it was probably lost in translation.

Kid has just gone to mum and asked if he can go to yours for pizza and shes assumed takeaway.

No kid is going to specify 'homemade pizza with fresh toppings'

BethDuttonYeHaw · 03/05/2025 16:55

It’s neither healthy nor unhealthy.

however she is a rude arsehole

NPET · 03/05/2025 16:56

No - the base may not be "healthy" if you had it every night (!) but the toppings are anyway.

Why???

Coldasicecreambutstillassweet · 03/05/2025 16:57

We do homemade pizzas maybe monthly. I don’t think they’re massively unhealthy especially comparing to other meals. My recipe has 30g protein 5g fibre (that’s without veg toppings so can definitely up the fibre. fat about 13g from the cheese.

I think what you have heard is probably what the mother has said but don’t worry about it

It's not filling.

What? It really is.

StIgantius · 03/05/2025 17:01

Presumably he just
told his mum pizza.

You have made lots of assumptions in your posts.

Or the mum has a massive stick up her arse.

I think this is more likely.

Who's to say the pizza wasn't being served alongside salad/vegetables?

I make my own bread, and also pizza bases. If you can be bothered, your own tomato pizza sauce can be loaded with fresh veg, then low fat mozzarella and fresh veggie toppings. So very little fat, everything home cooked so you know what’s in it, and massively healthier than shop bought. Tastier too.

cardibach · 03/05/2025 16:58

Yeah - I make my own and you definitely couldn’t say you were hungry after one !!

Of course it's healthy. She's mad and weirdly critical.

Maybe they had takeaway last night and McDonalds for lunch and that’s what she meant by “no love a proper meal tonight” of veg.

I reckon the healthy, proper meal being dished up in the neighbour’s house tonight will be:

Sausage, egg, beans and chips!😆

Homemade pizza is not healthy, we’re having a proper dinner.

Do you over-react to everything, or are you just triggered by the pizza situation?
