Why can’t Harry just pay for his own private security?

Don’t get it. He says that he can’t ever visit the UK again because his security won’t be provided. Loads of celebrities and high profile business people pay for their own security, why should tax payers pay for his security when he isn’t a working royal anymore?

Because he didn’t ask to be born into the Royal family.

So what? There are plenty of other people who were born into the royal family who don't get 24/7/52 armed guards paid for by us whenever they fancy them.

Because they weren’t born as third in line to the throne. The media takes a much bigger interest in Harry.

He is no longer third in line to the throne, and has chosen to repudiate his family and sell them out in a big and very public way. My heart quite fails to bleed for him; I feel more concern for people who didn't choose to be born with malformed limbs because their mothers took thalidomide during pregnancy, or people who didn't choose to be born gay in Kenya or Russia, or people who didn't choose to be born into families in North Korea without enough to eat (or in North Korea at all, come to that). Harry Windsor really has very little to gripe about when compared with a large proportion of the human race.

He needs to put a little motto on his wall and meditate on it daily:
"I wept because I had no shoes
Until I met a man who had no feet."
Harry would not know what having no shoes means, unlike a lot of people in India....

And if he STFU, the media would soon lose interest in him, because he really isn't particularly interesting.

I hate to point this out but … Andrew was born second in line to the throne, the press took great interest in him too!
until they didn’t… and then they did!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/05/2025 17:44

I rather thought at the time (back in the eighties) that what the press was mostly interested in was seeing if they could break up Andrew's marriage. After they'd succeeded they rather lost interest in him. until he behaved (or was accused of behaving: we never heard the evidence because the case was settled out of court) in a way which meant they had an actual reason to shine a bright light on his doings.

I’m not going down that hole!!! 🤣
but I’m often struck by comments that posters make about Harry that could have been made about Andrew!

Very wise.

They do seem not to see how a gotcha sometimes doesn't work at all.

Oooh... why doesn't he just say so then? I'm sure everyone would do as he wanted if he did.

Anne was born third in line to the throne, as was Edward, neither of then got 24/7 security.
