Why can’t Harry just pay for his own private security?

Don’t get it. He says that he can’t ever visit the UK again because his security won’t be provided. Loads of celebrities and high profile business people pay for their own security, why should tax payers pay for his security when he isn’t a working royal anymore?

Lavenderfarmcottage
I never mentioned the Pope.

You did, you know. Today at 15:37
The exact quote is "As the head of the Catholic Church."

The Pope is head of the Catholic Church. But I am fairly sure you were just displaying abysmal ignorance (again).

Ahhh, Donald Trump. Of course.

NewAgeNewMe · 04/05/2025 18:20

I think the world looks down on the UK for how they have treated Harry.

it’s not the world who will be paying for his security so I could not care less that the world looks down on the U.K.
which I don’t believe to be true for a single moment.

Right they have a selection of one person over at Scotland Yard.

No, but equally they don’t have people sitting there twiddling their thumbs waiting a call from Harry. If he doesn’t give notice then they have to drag several officers back from rest days, leave or leave someone else less well protected. 28 days allows them to plan rotas etc,

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 04/05/2025 18:31

Right they have a selection of one person over at Scotland Yard.

Why does he need to have a choice of people to send his email to? It would just confuse matters to blur responsibilities in that way.

Do you make jam, @Lavenderfarmcottage ?

Am I Harry ? How ridiculous… Are you all from government or whoever is politically motivated to exile Harry ?

I never mentioned the Pope.

I’m from one of the Commonwealth nations colonised by the UK.

Anyone can cut out key words and rearrange them to mark someone sound a certain way. Try harder.

Yes ‘you’ who criticise Harry constantly & have no charity.

I think the world looks down on the UK for how they have treated Harry.

Who told you that? 😂

We can’t see how he feels safer in the US, where anybody can buy a gun, compared to here? Trump was shot in the ear last year - presumably a near miss for a fatal shot to the head? Who is likely to have more security than Trump?

We talked about risk. DH missed the IRA bomb at London Bridge by 15 minutes. He was in Kings Cross when he heard the bomb on the bus go off - the very area, he used to walk through every day on his way to the office. He was late getting up that day! His office was on Shaftesbury Avenue and the police regularly cleared the area, due to bomb threats.

I should have caught the train in the Wembley train crash. There were two trains on the platform and that was the first out. I was too tired to walk the length of the second train to get on it, when probably all the seats had gone. I decided to get on the train at the back and have a sit down. Later, they led us along the tracks at Wembley past the train crash.

Anybody in London in particular can be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get stabbed?

Strange how chance can change your life. A friend of mine grew up in NYC. Her mother worked in the World Trade Centre. She extended her maternity leave by one day. Everyone else on her floor died. Her husband (my friend's father) was frantic, he thought that his wife was supposed to be in work that day.

King Charles is the head of the Catholic church?? He is moonlighting from his job as British monarch? An undercover pope. Wonder if the Vatican knows.@Lavenderfarmcottage you need to go public with this. It's very worrying. Especially as he is deceitfully masquerading as a Protestant

CathyorClaire · 04/05/2025 20:42

As the head of the Catholic Church

Working through the thread and I'm sure it's been said but... 😂

You threw him to the circus the minute he was born

Clown still clowning.

this is the royal family YOU want from birth in your country

Not all of us.

You don’t just expect the royals to work, you expect them to dance and live in the public eye and create entertainment for you.

Any and all are free to walk away at any time. In the overwhelming main they don't. If the life's so awful you really have to wonder why.

Slight tangent, but I find it interesting how the very wealthy & privileged are perfectly happy for taxpayers to fund their security but baulk at paying adequate tax for the NHS & state schools...

💯

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 05/05/2025 17:09

@Lavenderfarmcottage

Edward VIII abdicated. He walked away. Harry could have gone off to California, lived in Montecito, bringing up the children and keeping the chickens, as an ordinary citizen and keeping his mouth shut, given they wanted “privacy”. They would have faded out of people’s memories. I had no idea where Gene Hackman, one of the most highly regarded American actors of his generation, was living after he retired from films, until his unfortunate death!

Instead, M & H have given world famous interviews, Harry’s written a highly publicised book, and Harry shot his mouth off, about his time in the armed forces. Some of that risk, Harry has ramped up himself, through ill thought out public statements.

MidwestCindy · 05/05/2025 22:41

It looks like he is trying to get his Internationally Protection Person status
back. That would mean local authorities/British protection would protect him and his family anywhere in the world continually without him having to pay anything. He lost that protection at Megxit.

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 05/05/2025 23:44

‘International Protected Persons’ are defined by a UN convention and Act of Parliament as:

(a)a person who at the time of the alleged offence is a Head of State, a member of a body which performs the functions of Head of State under the constitution of the State, a Head of Government or a Minister for Foreign Affairs and is outside the territory of the State in which he holds office;
(b)a person who at the time of the alleged offence is a representative or an offical of a State or an offical or agent of an international organisation of an intergovernmental character, is entitled under international law to special protection from attack on his person, freedom or dignity and does not fall within the preceding paragraph;
(c)a person who at the time of the alleged offence is a member of the family of another person mentioned in either of the preceding paragraphs and—
(i)if the other person is mentioned in paragraph (a) above, is accompanying him,
(ii)if the other person is mentioned in paragraph (b) above, is a member of his household

Harry does not fit within this definition as he is not a head of state nor a representative of the state. As I mentioned, this is defined by international UN convention; it is not something that can be adjusted to include Harry. Though this might explain why he feels he is protected if invited by his family - IPP status extends to family members accompanying IPP.

Internationally Protected Persons Act 1978

An Act to implement the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1973.

You are quite wrong here. Liz Truss was not in office long enough to know Jack anything.
Harry is ex services plus a Royal*. He chose the former. That was not a wise move. I have worked close to these people and we have an obligation to this man even if it just about decency.

  • he's not an ex royal, he never will be.

She's a member of the Privy Council. She was in office long enough to be briefed on many things that may be of interest to the Russians.

I suspect all PMs get intelligence briefings pretty much the moment they step through the doors at Number 10; they have to be able to make decisions on such matters immediately should the need arise.

Absolutely. It's completely idiotic to pretend anyone who's been PM doesn't have information that could compromise all of us.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/05/2025 16:30

Quite apart from what she knew from the jobs she did before she was PM.

Because he didn’t ask to be born into the Royal family.
