Currently on This Morning advocating for ‘weaponised male incompetence’ proudly stating how he does house jobs badly so his wife takes them over. They’re all laughing at this jolly little admission.

Men like him make me fucking sick

To be honest, yea he does. I hate he has a platform for his faux gentlemanly but ultimately sexist and outdated views. And when he’s on anything no-one else can get a word in. And then everyone calls him a national treasure. I’m just sick of men like him tbh

If by Peters you mean star of CBBC Andi Peters I'm sure he hasn't been exposed as a sexual devient.
But yes Schofield and there was John Leslie ex Blue Peter the one who covered Judy's modesty at the TV awards. The weatherman Fred Talbot exposed for historical child abuse. And the creep Richard Madely he was all over the Spice Girls back in the day like a rash. Now he's on GMB yuk.

This is in reply to pp. I fell asleep and missed off the quote

SmegmaCausesBV · 02/05/2025 13:45

I don't think I've watched it since school. Didn't they have Schofield and Peters and a string of other sexual deviants being the face of it? That horrid Richard Madely? He was really horrible.

I haven't watched it since Madely was all over the Spice Girls.

User46576 · 02/05/2025 22:57

He’s just kidding. I saw him saying the opposite. Either could be true- I don’t care either way

I have noticed the same with some female presenters also, some I like but they need to own any space they are in seems so it works both ways

And if someone said they sick were sick of women like this that would not be accepted

Sortofdontwantto · 03/05/2025 00:08

Could you give me some examples @BlondiePortz

Coren

Yes, Viles Coren. Some of the things I’ve seen written about him, things he’s said, in person and whichever “newspaper” he writes for etc.

Velmy · 03/05/2025 02:31

I wouldn't say he's a misogynist. A bit of a relic, certainly. But he's very clearly 'doing a bit' and leaning into his persona when he's on TV.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 03/05/2025 02:35

Ghastly man

Seamond · 03/05/2025 04:33

Maybe This Morning isn't the programme for you

CurlewKate · 03/05/2025 06:06

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 22:34

What’s so great about that. He was in power until they realised he was shit. Honest, I guess, but hardly magnanimous

What he said was he was an MP “Until the people spoke-the bastards!” Which is admittedly quite a good line.
If I had to pick one out of the many reasons I dislike him? Well, when I listen to an interview I want to come away knowing more about the interviewee than the interviewer. Brandreth gets it the wrong way round! And I thought he was awful on Parenting Hell. So patronising-spelling out the difficult words for them…..

CheeseWisely · 03/05/2025 06:42

@CurlewKateI listened to Gyles’ podcast last night off the back of this thread. I thought I knew quite a lot about Josh Widdecombe having listened to the Parenting Hell podcast for 5 years and watching his ‘Who do you think you are?’ but I learnt much more about him in an hour of Gyles interviewing him. Perhaps not in other places but on his podcast he is a wonderful gently inquisitive interviewer.

@SortofdontwanttoAnother This Morning favourite and I don’t dislike her, but Alison Hammond is an example of female interviewer that takes up most of the oxygen in the room.

HopingForTheBest25 · 03/05/2025 08:02

I like it when Giles and Camilla Tominey are on - intelligent, articulate adults have entered the room and the discussions are generally interesting. It makes a change from the usual vapid shite.

BMW6 · 02/05/2025 11:15

You thought he is gay didn't you - me too until I saw a programme about his marriage a couple of weeks ago 😣

Why would anyone make a programme about his marriage FFS?!

stampin · 03/05/2025 10:17

I like Gyles and Nick Ferrari, This Morning chat is just fluff otherwise.

He was a close friend of Prince Philip's - which suggests to me that he may just not be the kindest, most caring or humble of people.

Yeah. He says hes a friend of PP. Hard to get another view on that really. I'm sure he was always down Buck Palace for tea with Phil and Liz. Best mates really I'm sure.

Personally I'd like to see him fired out of a steam cannon. I really really loathe the lazy easy racist misogynistic twerp. I think anyone who sits and leaves the TV or radio on when he and his like are about are somewhat complicit in his behaviour. He's invited on to bang on about complete nothingness and if we just didn't sit and allow his syrupped words (well something sticky and golden yellow) flow into our ears he'd stop being called on to talk complete poppycock.

He will say anything to anyone if only he gets another booking and he's famous for....er being a bloated toady. Not for some one who had an interesting life, a thought provoking insight but for saying things that are just a little annoying that other somewhat annoying people can get behind.

Sorry for long reply. I shallnow climb off the soap box.

Suchasonganddance · 03/05/2025 19:49

You come over as a joyless individual-with a massive chip on your shoulder.

But you'll claim it's OK for you to wish violence on someone because "it was a joke" right?

Who? Me! That’s a lot to glean out of a single thread about disliking Gyles Brandreth!

OP posts:
Serpentstooth · 03/05/2025 20:20

I haven't seen Gyles Brandreth on tv for more years than I can recall, no I have, I saw him on Gogglebox for about 90 seconds with Sheila Hancock - another woman who doesn't suffer fools gladly. So pp, you do know you can switch your tv off? Or change channels? Why distress yourself unduly? It's not compulsory.

Rockhopper1 · 03/05/2025 20:35

Have often found facets of GB’s public persona irritating over the years but as others have said above he is a really skilled interviewer on his podcast , Rosebud .

Please consider giving the episode with Pam Ayers a listen ( even if you’ve never heard of her ) . It’s really moving & so interesting .

BusyExpert · 03/05/2025 20:38

he is elderly not middle aged and he is most certainly not a misogynist. His humour may not br yours, it is not always mine, but once againwomen are showing that they can be every bit as bigoted and sexist as a man Somehow its OK when they do it isn't it?

celticprincess · 03/05/2025 20:43

I like him to be honest. I find he’s funny and I don’t think he actually means a lot of those things and just says them to wind people up.

CheeseWisely · 03/05/2025 20:43

Well it’s a direct result of this thread that Gyles has at least one new subscriber to his podcast. 3 episodes down already and each of them excellent. Probably not what you intended OP but here we are. Funny how things work out.

LlynTegid · 03/05/2025 20:49

For all his faults he did one good thing- the Marriage Act when he was an MP. Those of no faith being able to marry somewhere other than a registry office.
