Currently on This Morning advocating for ‘weaponised male incompetence’ proudly stating how he does house jobs badly so his wife takes them over. They’re all laughing at this jolly little admission.

Men like him make me fucking sick

OP posts:

Gosh man makes joke shocker! Stop the world!
just say you hate men and get it over with.

Aren’t jokes supposed to be funny?

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 02/05/2025 13:14

I listen to his podcast and have read quite a few of his books. He strikes me as incredibly clever and great at wordplay. Although born to a different era to me he's never come across to me as a misogynist. Perhaps he might not be your cup of tea but do we really need to denigrate him so vociferously?

MidoriNoRingo · 02/05/2025 11:22

Meh. I pretend I can’t get the wheelie bin down the steps. I can…. I just don’t want to.

Unfortunately my incompetence in this area is not feigned - managed to scratch the, side of our new (to us) car within a week of having it running after the bin men in my PJs Blush

Which other Giles? Brandreth is totally awful. Can’t think of another one.

I thought it was. Maybe you don’t have a sense of humour?

CheeseWisely · 02/05/2025 13:22

I didn’t know an awful lot about him until I listened to his Parenting Hell podcast episode recently. He spoke very fondly about his family and I learnt a lot about his earlier life and career that I had no idea about.

I wouldn’t worry about anyone taking anything that’s said on This Morning seriously OP. Mindless filler TV.

Or maybe it’s a problem with yours?
Honestly what an unpleasant thing to say to someone over such a tiny thing.

Serpentstooth · 02/05/2025 13:23

He has a 'public persona' - as majority of 'the famous do - which has served him well over the years. Don't mistake this for the real person, it's a construct.

EleanorReally · 02/05/2025 13:25

i am not keen on his public persona

Moveoverdarlin · 02/05/2025 13:25

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:16

Oh no he’s not gay. He’s classic misogynist middle aged white male

Middle aged?? He’s 77.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/05/2025 13:26

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:13

Now he’s banging on about WLI and how people just need to ‘eat less and excercise more’

Er….quite sensible advice no?

Arctician · 02/05/2025 13:27

…. hhmmm, sounds like you’ve got big enough problems if listening to Good Morning is the best you can do with your time. People with your type of response would probably make Gyles Brandreth laugh …. in a polite manner of course.

AlmostSummer25 · 02/05/2025 13:28

Penko25 · 02/05/2025 11:22

I can’t get wound up about this. More important things to worry about than Gyles B.

Then why click on the thread?

Did you just want everyone to know you're far superior?

Moveoverdarlin · 02/05/2025 13:34

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:21

Well of course he is, sounds like she does everything for him. He knows where his bread is buttered

So does she. He’s 77 and still works a lot. He works, she stacks dishwasher and folds laundry. Seems fair enough to me.

And the important thing to remember was the fact he was joking. He speaks so lovingly about his wife, his children, his son-in-laws, their grandchildren, their cat. He’s a huge advocate for his daughter who is an MP, he always pushes women in politics and says there needs to be more female MPs. He was a huge supporter of the Queen.

I don’t think he’s a misogynist AT ALL.

The other day they were talking about paying grandparents for childcare. Vanessa Feltz said ‘I love my grandchildren so much, I certainly don’t want paying to look after them. Giles said ‘I would pay NOT to look after them!’ Again people laughed. It’s a joke. He was funny.

Not long before you brought race into it was it?

Bbq1 · 02/05/2025 13:42

I can't stand the phrase "weaponised male incompetence". What a stupid saying. What term are we applying to the pp's who claim to be unable to do a job so that their partner do it - "weaponised female incompetence"? GB is harmless. Due to his advancing age, I'm sure he would be delighted to be thought of as middle aged!
So many posters just dislike men because they are, well, men. Fine but do we really need to see constant posts dragging them down with posters chomping at the bit to spout vitriol? Not only that, but the double standards on Mn are shocking - if GB was female saying the same thing as GB, the post wouldn't have even been started.

Luddite26 · 02/05/2025 13:43

This Morning is just so out of date. So stale stop watching.

I don't think I've watched it since school. Didn't they have Schofield and Peters and a string of other sexual deviants being the face of it? That horrid Richard Madely? He was really horrible.

He is, I agree. Mind you that doesn’t mean he couldn’t also gay be gay! Although he isn’t. His children have names that Mumsnet would LOVE, btw.

Did you just want everyone to know you're far superior?

So unless you agree with the OP, you can’t post?

was the thread title “Come here and chat only if you hate GB”?

Honestly. Chill out. Absolutely no need.

NPET · 02/05/2025 13:53

He makes me sick anyway. He loves pushing his opinions (whether good or bad) onto us.

LoveTKO · 02/05/2025 13:53

I like him. Up to him and his wife how they divide house jobs. I imagine he’s contributed a lot financially over the years, possibly making a huge difference to their quality of life.

Neemie · 02/05/2025 13:55

Nearly everyone does this some of the time. It’s not like women aren’t clever enough to use that technique.

LillyPJ · 02/05/2025 13:58

I think his wife should practise being dangerously incompetent with what I assume are 'her' jobs: cooking, ironing his shirts, sex...

LillyPJ · 02/05/2025 14:00

CustardySergeant · 02/05/2025 11:36

There's no need to take what he says seriously. He's just trying to amuse.

... which is the perfect excuse for all sorts of misogynistic, racist or otherwise offensive banter.
