Currently on This Morning advocating for ‘weaponised male incompetence’ proudly stating how he does house jobs badly so his wife takes them over. They’re all laughing at this jolly little admission.

Men like him make me fucking sick

Funny you are so judgemental, he says the nicest things about you

I’m not a ‘personality’ whose whole career is based on loudly spouting my opinions though am I

I listen to his podcast and he gives time and space to women to tell their story. I wouldn’t say he is a misogynist.

I agree. He’s a very generous interviewer. I don’t get misogynist vibes from him at all.

I’m loving his reading of his diaries too.

Ablondiebutagoody · 02/05/2025 11:12

Wife?

I thought he was gay too!

FrenchandSaunders · 02/05/2025 11:31

Love Gyles, he has a great podcast which I discovered recently.

Henrietta863 · 02/05/2025 11:33

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:13

Now he’s banging on about WLI and how people just need to ‘eat less and excercise more’

Not quite. He said that people like him (who don’t have much to lose) should instead of popping to the pharmacist to get some with ease - not the clinically obese. I’m sure he stated that more than once actually.

Fizbosshoes · 02/05/2025 11:34

I think "middle aged" might be a slightly optimistic description?😄

<misses point of thread>

I think you'll find his career was far more complex on the narrow bit written about here

BarneyRonson · 02/05/2025 11:36

In the past I would have found Gyles a bit tiresome, but nowadays I notice im hugely relieved when he appears on things, because he has a good vocabulary and a sense of humour. So many people on TV now are lacking wit and articulacy I can’t fathom how they ever got their jobs.

CustardySergeant · 02/05/2025 11:36

There's no need to take what he says seriously. He's just trying to amuse.

Gotmywordlestuck · 02/05/2025 11:37

Men of his generation are were functioning adults in the 1960s and 70s when women were fighting hard for equality, so they have no excuse for their ignorant behaviour. Unfortunately even now I know many young women who enable them.

JasmineAllen · 02/05/2025 11:38

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:16

Oh no he’s not gay. He’s classic misogynist middle aged white male

I like him. I think he's entertaining and I bet he'd be great company with some amusing tales.

Re: the male incompetence comments. I assume it was said for laughs and fail to see what's so upsetting about it.

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:40

Would he really be great company? Good company to me is people who listen as well as talk. He’d just talk over you (as he does on TM) with his name dropping stories.

I have personal, experience that Prince Phillip was indeed very generous, kind and helpful to a person who suffered a terrible personal tragedy.

Did you know him personally?

No, I didn't; but it's hardly esoteric knowledge about how many ordinary people he went around merrily offending and making appalling comments to, in the knowledge that the balance of power meant he could get away with it with impunity.

He also banged on repeatedly about how urgent and crucial it was that we must reduce the population - yet he chose to father four children.

I'm not saying in the least that he never did anything nice for anybody; but on balance, I don't think he can have been that lovely a person.

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:41

Oh I got confused with Prince Andrew!!!!

it's just a joke and his usual sense of humour - honestly lighten up!

I’ve encountered him in person at various media events and his “sense of humour” is just basic crude sexism. He’s a dick.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one 😂

Yes. He does this, along with a side helping of leering at very young women in the room and making comments about how he’d like a bit of that, etc. Really grim.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 02/05/2025 11:12

He was a close friend of Prince Philip's - which suggests to me that he may just not be the kindest, most caring or humble of people.

A friend of DS's who worked for Prince Philip says he was a wonderful man to work for.

Theroadt · 02/05/2025 11:47

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 11:14

Ah the age old classic of those who are misogynist / racist/ whatever - ‘it’s just a joke, lighten up’

Yes I get it, along with the dreaded “banter”. But honestly, morning TV is just fluff. He’s not advocating The Handmaids Tale or similar - lighten up a wee bit.

BlondiePortz · 02/05/2025 11:50

I take it as a joke as him putting on a persona, like when comedians make jokes about their kids i don't take it seriously, i don't like somw of the jokes but I don't presume they are like that in their normal life

But men can be as incompetent as they want and they find women who 'mother' them which is weird

TorroFerney · 02/05/2025 11:51

andweallloveclover · 02/05/2025 11:23

It was just a joke. I pretend my back hurts when I mow the lawn so DH has to do it 😂

Yes I think don’t take it too seriously. Claudia winkleman makes out she’s a dimwit fuckup who sleeps all the time. She’s a massively well educated successful woman with a Cambridge degree.

This. It’s a great podcast.

OP- why so bored on a Friday you’re watching TM and starting a thread about someone you don’t personally know?

Tootyfilou · 02/05/2025 11:55

He"s such a fucking prick. I have loathed the man since he said how much he loved Thatcher, thats enough for me. Surely anyone with two brain cells would ignore his narcissistic bleatings.

Serpentstooth · 02/05/2025 11:57

His wife is a Woman of Steel. Pity not required.

EleanorReally · 02/05/2025 11:59

i find him very annoying
so full of himself
