Demonic Possession

Do you believe?

I've been watching a lot of podcasts on YouTube lately with exorcist from the church.

I'm torn. Do you believe?

In Islam - there is a whole area of study about Jinn (beings who currently live on this planet but we can’t see/hear them).

Sometimes they possess humans. Some are good Jinni and some are bad.

There are some who are evil like Satan, and just create chaos.

Muslims believe this. We have our way of doing “exorcisms”. Mostly which consists of reciting verses of the holy book and trying to remain clean and “good”.

Similarly, Muslims also believe in Angels. Divine beings.

Of course - people can have mental health issues. It’s considered better to take a balanced approach to any ailments - so take your medicine and say your prayers.

Ah, here you go @Abbycarry2211 . Sounds like your ex accidentally drank a jinn and tonic.

Well my friend is a Catholic priest and they do a lot of deliverance in his London church. They prefer deliverance rather than exorcism. They have to be careful becsuse a lot of it is mental illness or acute stress so they don't just dive in. They make sure the person has the right support structure and counselling before doing anything.

This sounds like a sensible approach,
When I read the New Testament accounts of demons, people frothing at the mouth etc, I tend to think that those people most likely had mental illness or epilepsy, but demonic possession was how people sought to understand it at the time,

No doubt those who believe in the inerrancy of the bible will find that blasphemous!

I'm not sure if that is blasphemous

We do not have "energy centres".

How do you know? What is your understanding of an "energy centre"?

They are always scheming. Always. Even when it appears as though things are calm on the surface. They have zero empathy, and enjoy when your life falls apart. They are evil.

Many people who have observed narcisstic rage have stated that they have witnessed the narcissists eyes turning black. If you search 'narcisstic rage black eyes' on YouTube, you will see many videos on this topic. The comments under the videos are interesting.

If they were possessed, they'd be able to be exorcised and cured.

But they can't be.

Lol that is funny.

It’s fine. Not everyone believes it.

Most people in the Eastern part of the world believe this sort of stuff.

Witchcraft, black magic, spirits etc.

HausofHolbein · 01/05/2025 18:04

@Crazyworldmum

Would you be able to tell me more about this? I think it's fascinating!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/05/2025 17:52

If they were possessed, they'd be able to be exorcised and cured.

But they can't be.

You can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink. You can't force someone to get exorcised. And I'm not sure it works for everyone.

I do believe some people are condemned to hell from the beginning (narcs). Diagnosing it as a personality disorder is an infantile explanation that lets ppl away with murder. And modern day psychology is still new. It can't explain everything, and has removed the spiritual element from almost everything.

I've known narcissists, and they throw anyone under a bus to get out of trouble. Bad news. They will slowly kill you. Zero empathy. The most prideful idiotic people about. They crave admiration. Their persona is a mask. It was pride that sent Lucifer to hell. These are his minions who will return to him. I do believe this. I don't think there is salvation for certain ppl.

WhereIsMyJumper · 01/05/2025 18:44

I think it’s interesting to discuss where the line between science and spirituality is blurred. But I think there is room for both.

OhWhistle · 01/05/2025 18:48

Please spend that time at Mass or doing the rosary or working with the poor or something.

The good exorcists aren't flashing about online. The Church sadly is politicised and a lot of demonisation of modernity happens online.

Regardless of that, don't give forces of darkness attention. They are vain and also they will look for ways in.

Eyes firmly on the Cross.

Can't force a person to undergo the ritual - but a mere fallible human or two can force a 'demon' to bugger off back to Hell when they're immensely powerful supernatural beings that do not adhere to the laws of physics, biology or God?

Guess that's why they're such fans of forcing children and recalcitrant women to undergo the process. Bit inconvenient when they die, though.

But they can't be.

Consent is always necessary before an exorcism is performed in the RC church.

Your average narcissist is highly unlikely to be open to the suggestion that they might have a problem, whether psychological or spiritual.

Exorcism also must be preceeded by psychological/ medical/ psychiatric exams, and the context of the suspicion of demonic possession has to be examined (the person's past exposure to the occult in its various forms). Only when there is moral certainty (i.e. when the exorcist's degree of certainty that the case before him is one of possession lies between 'highly probable with all other explanations ruled out', and 'absolutely certain') that an exorcism is needed, and with the consent of the individual, will the exorcism go ahead.

No. It was an excuse to explain mental illness in the past. There's no reason to believe it now.

This!

A fallible human being speaking in the name of Jesus, with careful spiritual preparation.

An exorcist does not work with his own authority.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 01/05/2025 19:10

I’ve spent a lot of time around people who evoke demons, gods and angels. I believe that all these things are inside of us and we can bring these to the fore ourselves, or others can do this through manipulation.

I wouldn’t call it a mental illness as it is simply pulling different facets of our personalities to the fore, we need to keep these aspects of ourselves in balance and “demonic possession” is just a matter of not balancing opposing forces within us.

i do believe that there are certain forces that operate throughout the universe that align with these things humans call gods/demons, good/evil and that these parts of us align with these forces.

But again it is about creating this balance, an experienced person, therapist, healer, spiritual person etc will help the rebalancing via whatever their chosen method. It doesn’t really matter it’s largely down to whatever the person believes in.

Justletmemoveon · 01/05/2025 19:13

Yes. I’ve had deliverance from demons

Yes, it’s a pre-scientific attempt to explain and cure mental illness — it may even have ‘cured’ some people via the placebo effect, though it caused the deaths of others. It’s like changelings being a pre-scientific attempt to explain disabled or ill babies, or women with PND. It has no place in today’s world.

SparklePopRampage · 01/05/2025 19:48

I felt possessed when I didn’t understand or have a label for my mental illness - I was experiencing lots of ‘polar opposite’ thoughts to what I really felt - they were intrusive and I didn’t understand why they were happening to me or where they were coming from. The only way I could describe it was a ‘voice’ but it was thoughts in my mind that weren’t me and upset me greatly. Almost like someone whispering horrible things into your brain. Often these were image based and I’d see terrible things in my minds eye.

I couldn’t tell anyone because I was worried I’d get painted as insane or indeed labelled as possessed but it was a horrifying time. My pastor actually was one of the most influential people on my journey, spotted the mental illness and helped me understand it and get the right help. Years later we are still friends despite him moving away and I will be forever grateful.

I have to be careful around the Church and prefer now to hold my own beliefs by myself, because I can get too wrapped up in what is said or reported in a service and I have historically struggled with obsessing around being ‘good’.

Interestingly, however I do still believe there are positive and evil forces and these can take hold if you’re not careful. You can be ‘open’ to good and evil and have to be mindful with regard to what you are exposing yourself too. But this also is just good safeguarding for yourself as well. If you see too much horrible stuff it is going to have an impact.

I was once in a spiritual meeting at a festival where someone invited God in and random people started fitting and screaming. It was a harrowing experience. Really unnerved you deep inside at a core level. It felt spiritual and unearthly.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 01/05/2025 19:56

Hello, Azazal here, fret ye not. We just don't have any demons to spare for posession duties! It's all hands on deck what with all the new residents to process and the dodgy boiler to mend. Then we're mid-rehersal for a Hollywood musicals montage- the boss is always a bit tetchy at this time of the year too, so we're all trying to cheer him.
So, no need to worry, all our naughty little spirits are accounted for, so don't let the charlatans tell you otherwise!
Byeeee!

Yes i definitely believe in negative energies lingering around places. I went to visit ancient ruins in mexico. The tour guide told us that a lot of dark things had happened on that site, including a lot of sacrifices.

After i went there i felt like a negative energy had attached itself to me. I felt darker and more violent. I looked different aswell. I came home and people said to me that id really changed for the worse. My mum even said to me "sometimes i feel like im not talking to you at all, its like talking to a demon"

I had to do a lot of energy cleansing techniques that i found online. I still dont feel a hundred percent myself. Im nastier and crueller than i used to be. But it doesnt feel like my energy, it feels like ive had a bath in negative energy and that negative energy is all around my body. And that energy is influencing me. I still feel like something could be attached to me.

I need to try more energy cleansing. Its definitelty taught me to be more careful where i visit.

Are you sure this isn't sleep paralysis? I get this too. In between awake and asleep and convinced there is evil in my house. I feel like I am being physically swung around my room. It's terrifying.

That's an idea - sounds more plausable - but the voice I heard in my dream was terrifying - why do our bodies do this to us 😔

Whoiam · 01/05/2025 20:09

You need Jesus

Whoiam · 01/05/2025 20:15

That's interesting, as that's how the devil is described in the Bible: The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Yes, I believe in demonic possessions.

What I don't believe is everything that I see on YouTube/TikTok.

can I ask if you’re a qualified psychiatrist?

Psychs don’t treat demons.
