Why are Kneecap not in prison?

1000 replies

BlossomBlanket · 29/04/2025 19:49

But Lucy Connelly is? Kneecap told people to kill their MPs. Why have they not been arrested.

(To be very clear, I do not condone violence of any kind towards anyone, I'm just asking as this seems like a double standard, can someone explain?)

You can't possibly have read TACT or be aware of the case law then.

I've worked as a lawyer in the public sector for over 20 years. I can assure you it is an offence.

Scroll down on the link to offences.www.counterterrorism.police.uk/proscription/

I don’t know where you read your law degree but it’s very clear that only “reckless” support of a terrorist organisation is an offence. And that’s why we have courts.

The comment that was deleted was about threats of violence to English MPs - it said that it was bigoted to allow those threats if you object to similar threats against Irish TDS

Im not sure what that has to do with your comment

It did not say “if”.
you said that I did not care about violent rhetoric towards Irish TDs, only English MPs and “that makes you a bigot.”

then when explained what I have done at length, that I am not shocked by such rhetoric at all and see it largely as nonsense, you deleted the comment.

if you knew that every year in Belfast, images of nationalist and non-partisan MPs are burned on bonfires, then it makes no sense that you asked would I care about similar things directed at politicians I support and mentioned Irish politicians. I don’t think you do realise the extent or know how publicly these things are done and are claiming understanding that you do not have.

If you think kneecap are bad the Wolfe Tones are going to blow your mind. They have made a late career revival out of 'ooh ah up the ra'. They played a big show in Finsbury park last summer and they are back over playing in England again in the next few months.

You should maybe organise a picket... 'down with this sort of thing' etc

Yes . I know the words to all the songs 😣

Its the threats of violence to people and the balaclavas and the name kneecap I object to.

It’s reminiscent of very frightening times .

slamdunk66 · 30/04/2025 16:43

@EcoChica1980and it is literally on the the main land of Ireland. My point was if you were knowledgeable about NI you would be conscious about referring to your ‘mainlander fellows’ in relation to NI as it is offensive to approximately 50% of the population of NI.

Reminiscent of times such as 11th July 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, etc?

You have no idea who I am or what my background is . You only know I don’t agree with you. It doesn’t mean I lack understanding.

If you’re happy with the glorification of paramilitary terror then that’s up to you .
We all know 12th July is a tense time in NI .
I don’t think anyone should support any behaviour that inflames hatred on either side of the sectarian divide

This is what is making me laugh.

there are anti English rebel songs sung openly in pubs and at weddings up and down the country, and people are genuinely incensed that i’m not frothing at the mouth with righteous shock and outrage.

I mean even an Alan Partridge guest had a go at a rebel song on mainstream British tv 😂My English mil is very fond of an old rebel song because she loves the melody 😃

I repeat that I am not a particular fan of kneecap and don't agree with some of the rhetoric that they spout but I think it's important to remind those that think they're just going on about oppression all the time are wrong. Their main raison d'etre is to promote the Irish language. They are prominent advocates for the Irish language, rapping primarily in Irish and incorporating it into their music and film. They use their platform to promote the language, celebrate Irish culture, and challenge stereotypes, particularly regarding its perceived association with traditional or rural settings.

They campaigned for the passing of the identity and language act which has now become law. It's no so long ago their film won a bafta

Oh for fucks sake. I am NOT happy with it. I am just not shocked by it because it is so commonplace and frankly, kneecap are not a serious threat compared to what we actually deal with.

i do not support kneecap and I do not support burning effigies of politicians, but the latter happens every year here. It’s just no one in England pays any attention to that.

Irish people typically don’t take the burning of images of Irish politicians, or the Irish flag, by loyalists during 12th celebrations too seriously though, even though it’s objectively threatening behaviour.

They don’t object much.
More likely to eyeroll.
So not bigoted.
That’s the point.

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/04/2025 17:00

Bartoz · 29/04/2025 22:48

Not vocally it’s not. I can go about saying I’m a Hamas supporter all I want, it’s not against the law.
Sure every weekend in London there are crowds marching waiving placards showing their support for Hamas.

Yes it is.

The legislation is clear. There have already been prosecutions for vocal expressions of support of such organisations. This fact alone clearly demonstrates your opinion untenable.

Simply because some placard wavers haven't been prosecuted doesn't mean that they can't be if the CPS decides they meet the threshold. You can't prosecute/convict if there is no offence in law in the first place.

That's exactly why Kneecap are being investigated. If it wasn't an offence there would be no investigation and no case to answer. I'm not sure why this is difficult to understand.

Stop making ignorant sweeping statements You've done it repeatedly throughout this thread.

Unless you know every single individual in England you can't possibly know how they feel about it or whether they pay any attention to it.

Yes - I saw the film . I’m trying to learn Irish myself. It’s the other elements that allude to paramilitary stuff that I object too as it seems to link good stuff ( Irish language) with bad stuff ( terrorism)

Do you just have an issue with my adjectives? It’s just that HARDLY ANYONE in England pays attention to it. I apologise deeply for saying “no one” instead of “very few people”.

Never heard of them. We hadn't heard about the arseholes kneecap until very recently, you see what happens is when folk become more popular people take notice of what they've said. That's why it's dangerous to say 'kill MPs'.

Which is nothing like 'rebel songs' allegedly sang in pubs up and down the country that a pp posted about.

The minimising on here is appalling. Ooh nevermind those daft kneecap lads! I hope they carry on getting cancelled Their ridiculous non apology shows they think it's everyone else's fault.

Why is trump in presidency instead of behind bars?
Why are the gobshites that voted for brexit not in prison?

Seriously you are asking about lads taken out of context who have had to live in areas that have been through the troubles as have their parents and potentially siblings and your issue is on heresay?

I voted remain but a teacher friend of mine voted to leave. Stupid comments like calling leavers gobshites is what helped to alienate people and contributed to the leaving vote.

'Seriously you are asking about lads taken out of context who have had to live in areas that have been through the troubles as have their parents and potentially siblings'

What context is it ok for saying kill MPs and the only good MP is a dead one?

If I'd lived in an area of gang warfare and seen years of destruction it would make me want a bit of peace tbh. Not to be whipping people up and saying offensive crap.

HaimishaPickle · 30/04/2025 17:41

Well, I'm quite enjoying watching Kneecap experience the finding out stage of their fucking around as their visas are revoked and their gigs are cancelled.

All their whiny backpedalling statement has achieved is to enrage and disappoint their ardent fans. It's not quite clear who the "They" Kneecap refer to are but they seem to think there's some sort of shadowy organisation of "Establishment figures" who have all sorts of powerful resources in the media to start a nefarious smear campaign based on...looking up Kneecap's actual words and actions, as documented in their own social media accounts, interviews and gigs.

Honestly, their bombastic opening declaration makes them sound about twelve.
