To be really worried about Reform?

1000 replies

FiveHorse · 29/04/2025 13:09

Just that really. They’re predicted to gain the most from the upcoming elections, if this carries on could we see a reform government at the next general elections? Or is it press scaremongering as usual?

Is the hotel purely used to house immigrants now @TeenLifeMum ?

No, although not sure when it stopped housing migrants.

In the last 2 days over 700 migrants have arrived by small boats, it's nice weather all week in the south east so we can expect more to arrive.

The problem is that Labour haven't fixed this problem since they were elected. It has got worse. I know I talk about this issue a lot @PandoraSocks but I don't think people realise how big a problem it is for the South East.

I'm not a Reform Supporter, I'm not sure I could vote for them but I know people who have said they will vote for them tomorrow.

How do you think Labour should fix the problem?

Wingedharpy · 29/04/2025 15:37

Realistically and practically, how can anyone of any political persuasion stop undocumented migrants arriving?
How?

Lots of countries are going with the deterrent that you will be removed to a third country - which is what the Conservatives were trying to do also.

The Rwanda scheme was illegal.

Unaccompanied children. Can't find any mention beyond 2021

There was an argument that some young adults claimed to be children to get better rooms but it wasn’t just for children. Google suggests it closed a year ago. It was summer before last when we witnessed it and dmil had the scary moment day on the beach before that. We thought she was being dramatic until we saw it happen. As I said, I don’t live there. It happened and whether that was in 2023 or last week, it still happened.

That's not my problem to fix is it, but whatever Labour are doing it's not working.

Yes.

Perhaps there are two Stathe Court Hotels in Hythe, then? Because there are current reviews for it on Trip Advisor and is bookable via the site.

I’ve just updated. Looks like it closed a year ago.

What are those issues?

The issues they commonly raise on question time, LBC, etc.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 29/04/2025 20:01

But we took back control of our borders with Brexit. Are you saying Farage lied about that?

Brexit was to have greater control over borders. Since UK left the EU in 2020, neither the Conservative Party in power to 4 July 2024 and the subsequent Labour Party have done anything to control borders. If anything, control has been lost completely as evidenced by fact that immigration is approaching one million per year.

On the 5 December 2024 episode of BBC Question Time, Farage said (as did Sunak) that to have more control over borders it’s necessary to leave the ECHR. Immigration measured in 10s of thousands was sustainable, one million per year is not.

What does the ECHR have to do with work visas?

“Closed” to immigrants.

I’m not sure why you’re so determined to prove me wrong. It’s a lovely location so I’m sure Sarah hah a lovely stay.

I’m not even angry they used it to house people, I was just staying that it wasn’t an effective way of managing people coming illegally into the country.

Skippydoodle · 29/04/2025 20:06

SoScarletItWas · 29/04/2025 13:28

Do some research - what are you, a toddler?

Seeking asylum is not illegal even if they arrive by irregular means like a small boat.

Funny that you know so much about the hotel apart from the fact that it is still open and no longer houses immigrants.

Hang on, you said your PiL can't sit on the beach there anymore because of immigrants jumping off the boats and into the hotel in question?

If you don’t know and are not informed (you need to be informed to make a judgement either way) then you should not be voting.

The likelihood of them being fishermen is just as likely as them being blokes on a stag do. Response to the comment about them being fishermen rather than immigrants.

I didn’t mention fishermen?

Yes and paying criminals to get vulnerable people into a country in a dangerous way is appalling. Our country needs better, faster processes to truly help those who need it. Asylum seekers are losing out due to the disordered processes we have.

Is it, there is a video on You Tube where Nigel Farage says he has a major announcement to make on immigration. This was uploaded a few days ago, it's over an hour long so haven't watched it but would be interested to know what the announcement is if anyone else has seen it.

Yes we need safe routes but that requires co-operation with other countries, not as easy now we are out of the EU

This is pretty much what’s possible under current laws.

Some do it, and it does work.
