To be really worried about Reform?

1000 replies

FiveHorse · 29/04/2025 13:09

Just that really. They’re predicted to gain the most from the upcoming elections, if this carries on could we see a reform government at the next general elections? Or is it press scaremongering as usual?

Nigel Farrage did not manage to deliver on his Brexit promises so how on earth do you think he's going to deliver on anything else?

He wasn't in power to deliver on any Brexit policies.

Yes and paying criminals to get vulnerable people into a country in a dangerous way is appalling. Our country needs better, faster processes to truly help those who need it. Asylum seekers are losing out due to the disordered processes we have.

Absolutely. We need safe routes. The need for won’t disappear whoever is in charge.

Funny that you know so much about the hotel apart from the fact that it is still open and no longer houses immigrants.

It’s a lovely location so I’m sure Sarah hah a lovely stay
Hang on, you said your PiL can't sit on the beach there anymore because of immigrants jumping off the boats and into the hotel in question?

Edited

As far as I know, after it happened pil were shock up and last conversation we had was that they can’t sit on the beach without being scared. Funnily enough we don’t discuss this specific topic regularly, it just was part of a conversation. Dh and his friends all worked there as teenagers. I’ve not asked mil for her views since - she’s generally racist and homophobic so we try to avoid the topic, hence us assuming she was being overly dramatic until we witnessed it on a dog walk when visiting them. After that I realised their concerns were valid (some of them).

immigrants didn’t run up the beach daily but there was a period it was quite often. Presumably they don’t target it anymore if the hotel isn’t hosting them so I’m sure Sarah’s stay was fine.

100%

But even me making this point on this thread and sharing my own experience has led to me being accused of lying because we’re not allowed to have honest conversations about the reality of the issue.

Is it, there is a video on You Tube where Nigel Farage says he has a major announcement to make on immigration. This was uploaded a few days ago, it's over an hour long so haven't watched it but would be interested to know what the announcement is if anyone else has seen it.

Leaving the ECHR
Mass deportations
Creating a Minister for deportations

You can promise the earth with no real record or plan. Yanbu!

Kardamyli2 · 29/04/2025 20:30

I hope they win many many seats and give both labour and the cons a massive kick up the backside. Complacent politicians need to realise that a lot of ordinary people have had enough of being treated like fools.

How are we going to fill vacancies in the NHS for example?

Perhaps we could guarantee that our students that qualify successfully will be offered an NHS job - instead of them struggling to find one like student nurses. How about that for a start?

On which issues? Just immigration or maybe like Reform you don't like worker's rights?

Hoppinggreen · 29/04/2025 13:28

We plan to leave The Uk for the majority of the year in around 5 or 6 years but will accelerate this if Farage becomes PM.
We would be ok as we are white and not poor but I still loathe him and can't look at his stupid face.
I also can't live in a country who would elect someone like that

But where will you go @Hoppinggreen?The world is full of countries run by dictators.

NHS England alone has over 100,000 vacancies in secondary care. We'll get the newly qualified to fill all the roles while we wait years for the staff to be trained.

TeenLifeMum · 29/04/2025 14:41

I totally agree with you. I work in an nhs trust. We need immigration. But, pil live in Hythe and can’t sit on the beach by their house as it’s terrifying having the boats arrive and men run up the beach to the stade court hotel… previously a nice wedding venue but now immigrant accommodation so they aim for it and over fill the rooms. You say that and you’re called racist. So, you go unheard and vote reform. I can see how it’s happening.

I also think we need a more open discussion about cultural differences. The “we’re all the same” is not accurate. That doesn’t mean we need to be negative but understanding cultural differences and beliefs would be much more positive rather than denying these.

But we don't need more mass immigration. We need the people already here to take up jobs.

They're all too old, sick, massively under-qualified or don't think that spending 9 hours a day cutting cabbages and daffodils in all weathers is a suitable job for them, I'm afraid.

That's not true though is it, who is looking at the U.S saying, "that's the way to do it!"

Depends on your lens so no, it’s not ‘true or false’ as you purport.

I am not a Trump supporter, but because I have an imagination I can see if you are in an ex-car manufacturing city with no transferable skills and poor education, and you see Trump negotiating tariffs (albeit chaotically) to stimulate the economy, do you think the 10’s of millions who voted for him are all thinking ‘oh no’. They’re not, and it’s that sort of I’m right everyone else is wrong that is hugely indicative of the problem with attitudes.

How many of those vacancies are currently filled by agency staff already in the country?

Nowhere is perfect but I imagine we would mostly be in Spain/Portugal and Germany.
Which issues do you mean? Having Farage and reform in power?
Nowhere else that might happen

i think the far right rise in the EU is much much more credible than you think.

Under which law….?

The principle of Refoulement prohibited by:

ECHR, Refugee Convention, Convention against Torture, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It's also customary law.

In UK law it's found in:

Human Rights Act 1998, the Asylum and Immigration Appeals Act 1993, the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 and the Asylum and Immigration Act 2004.

I'm hoping they do really well and win all thats ti be won. The current two party system completely ignores the vast majority of people's opinions and lies to us all the time. They need to be shown the door. Reform is coming 😁

Yes because Reform don't lie, do they?

My son got diagnosed with autism over zoom in 30 mins by our GP... Oh wait, no he didn't. Because that doesn't happen. That was a fucking lie.

Just like how Farage "supports farmers" whilst simultaneously pushing for us to accept chlorinated chicken from his buddy Trump.

Just like all of their other lies.

Grow the fuck up.
