To be really worried about Reform?

1000 replies

FiveHorse · 29/04/2025 13:09

Just that really. They’re predicted to gain the most from the upcoming elections, if this carries on could we see a reform government at the next general elections? Or is it press scaremongering as usual?

I’m very concerned.

I hope the government is sufficiently concerned to do something about it!

We need to really crackdown on foreign influence as this is where at least a chunk of support for Reform is coming from. I’m not saying all of it but a chunk, and it’s a problem.

And go all guns blazing on exposing Farage etc for who they are.

The main parties do need to focus on actually improving people’s lives as well so as to be able to counter the threat.

It’s really frustrating, there is no room for critical thinking or a sensible discourse. Then people move to the more extreme option out of anger. It’s so sad to see it happening.

10000 illegal immigrants since jan 2025. That’s unsustainable. Both in terms of societal integration and also financially. We definitely need immigration - but illegal immigration is a completely different issue. Governments of the two main parties have failed to get a grip of this and reform will get in unless they do.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/04/2025 14:59

If you are voting for Farage etc you are voting against this country, against yourself, and this message should go out there very strongly.

The fact they are enemies of this country needs to be highlighted.

My neighbour is very interested in politics so went to a local open meeting reform held the other day and was absolutely horrified, he said it resembled a British version of a MAGA rally and one candidate actually said in his speech that he didn’t want his kids growing up “in a country full of Pakistani rapists”. There were 5 local candidates there together, he wasn’t just one bad apple.

That’s obviously awful and terrible but an example of how people get extreme because issues are not discussed. We have had an issue with grooming gangs in the UK. People who discussed it were called racist. As a result people get more extreme.

I will definitely not be voting Reform but I wish people would open their eyes to why people do it. It will just get worse if we don’t.

RedWhite · 29/04/2025 14:59

You can only push people so far until they revolt. As a civilised society there has been no rioting which is a good thing of course but they are fed up of the lies spewed by the other parties. Things are difficult for everyone at the minute and whether people like it or not, the majority of people did vote to leave the EU. The reason they voted to leave was because they were fed up with mass unskilled immigration.

There are several reasons why they found this to be an issue and as is their right as British citizens they voted to leave. That’s been the biggest cock up ever and folk are so sick of hearing how they’ll stop the boats, reduce immigration bla bla bla that they feel reform is the only way forward.

So it’s hardly surprising really….

The Tories and Labour will render them redundant by moving their policies to the right and stealing their more moderate ideas.

It is already happening. The current Labour government are the most right wing Labour government we have had in years. They are arguably more to the right than the Tories that preceded them.

How so ,can you explain both comments please

You actually believe that men are jumping off boats and booking themselves into a hotel?

The hotel is now housing immigrants. Rather than registering or entering the country formally, they jump off the boats and run up the beach to the hotel and their friends let them into their rooms so they have somewhere to stay. I’ve witnessed it when walking the dog when we stayed with in laws who live there.

Whether it is palatable to me or you or anyone, illegal immigration is a major issue and will continue to be so. Its lack of control and management will leave the door wide open to Reform. It is that single factor that will win him the next election. I too find this distressing. I hope that labour will realise that this and not Kemi is their main risk to another term in office.

Trumptonagain · 29/04/2025 15:02

I've lived in an area for over 50 years and never met a local councillor....
Sent a few emails to one once when needed a helping hand with a problem to do with day time daily bonfires....never heard a word back.

At times of local elections you'll get leaflets from various candidates with a picture of their face on through the letterbox by volunteers, or volunteers standing outside of the building where voting takes place but once the elections are over that's it until the next one.

Years ago when I lived with my parents I remember you'd get the candidate knock your street door or be available in the local high street.

driedgrasses · 29/04/2025 15:03

It is certainly worrying, but I think it indicates the level of desperation the population feel about immigration. This was the reason so many voted for Brexit. The mainstream parties still haven't addressed the issues so this is what happens. If only there had been some intelligent people in past governments who could have predicted this 🤔 🙄

I fear we'll end up like the US. Farage is another boyfriend of Putin isn't he? My goodness, it'll be a positive harem around old Dobby.

‘An issue with grooming gangs’… I’d personally rephrase that as ‘ a major child abuse and rape scandal’…

Before the next proper election
Is someone to set up an actual proper labour party
Because the current,so called labour party ,is no more labour than the conservatives are

I have met 3 candidates.

Labour don't bother doing the rounds or even spending money on leaflets because they have zero chance of getting in.

It may be that you live in a safe seat area. In these areas the opposition tend not to bother that much. Silly really because although they may have a low chance of winning, they have zero chance if they don't get out and about.

We plan to leave The Uk for the majority of the year in around 5 or 6 years but will accelerate this if Farage becomes PM.
We would be ok as we are white and not poor but I still loathe him and can't look at his stupid face.
I also can't live in a country who would elect someone like that

Yes same for us both white and doing well, especially my DH who is an immigrant. We refuse to live in a racist country and would leave.

Incenseandvibes · 29/04/2025 14:56

That’s not the detail to side track on. I believe that some men are arriving by boats for reason of economic immigration not asylum.

My point was people seem to believe anything. I asked a poster earlier what Reform were going to do about the issues outlined in her local area and as usual there's silence.

What are Reform going to do about immigration?

Where to
I've got two disabled adult children
So can't jump ship
Only those with money will be able to leave and start again elsewhere

Illegal migration does concern people, and that does have to be dealt with.

However, it’s getting amplified as an issue because of foreign influence, as those who want to harm our country know it’s going to rile people up.

So we have to address the fact of the foreign influence as well as the actual problems with illegal migration - which we were actually in a better position to fight from within the EU, ironically.

People have talked about grooming gangs - which is important - but again the discussion on that has been skewed - both in terms of framing it as only an “immigrant” problem which it’s not, and the suggestion nothing is being done.

I'd like to see an actual proper conservative party as well, not like the previous asset stripping, greedy, corrupt, contracts for mates, morally bankrupt, low IQ fools we've been seeing. People who actually want to conserve the UK for future generations and who want to see the country do well again.

Well they've got my vote.

Why? I genuinely don't understand how what they offer will improve our country. Brexit has already damaged it. What are they going to offer that's already better?

What ...like thatcher ,selling off council houses and shutting down manufacturing industry..
How far do we go back to find a decent conservative party
