To dare to think that the Cult of Dog has gone too far?

There is now not a single public space in my home town that is dog-free - and that includes cafes, restaurants and even the library. Local beaches, once a quiet escape, have turned into asylums for the fur baby/pupper brigade to inflict their poorly trained animals on others with children getting chased, people jumped on and tripped over and all to the sound of hysterical barking and frequent dog fights.
80 year old woman knocked over by uncontrollable dog? 'You got in his way'.
Ask politely that you take your dog away from our lunch table? 'Go fuck yourself'.
Sit on the most remote bench you can find? Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan lets loose 3 dogs from her 4x4 to jump all over you and laughs that it's 'their spot' and turns unhinged when you push them away.
Yes, this is a rant and yes I hate most dog owners.
This weird cult that values darling dogs over human beings is actually pretty worrying.
I shall await the inevitable and hilarious 'incoming' from the emotionally stunted Doggo Nutters.

Can’t liken pets to children. Can liken them to cars. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

TBF, a dog is just property, like a car or a favourite ornament. That’s why stories about leaving money to pets in a will are just myths: it would have the same effect - none - as leaving money to your kettle. On that basis the pp was right.

The comparison of the rights or wellbeing of any animal to a child is just foolish though.

chaosmaker · 30/04/2025 14:56

People have left all their money to their pet. A human is appointed to look after the inheriting pet. Not a myth.

Tessasanderson · 30/04/2025 16:38

Dog lover here. Wouldnt be without my two dogs.

But i agree, its gone too far. Dogs in shops is fucking rank. I dont want your dog anywhere near anything i buy. I admit to having taken my dogs to a resteraunt but i specifically checked beforehand that they were dog friendly. I believe it should be much less available than it is.

No idea what the answer is.

That’s not leaving money to a pet. That’s leaving money to a person or charity and attaching a condition. You could do the same with anything.

Went for a walk across the footpaths around the fields at 8pm yesterday. Came across a man and a woman with 5 dogs between them. All off the lead. It's fine if they have good recall. They didn't. As we approach each other the dogs went wild, running up to me, jumping, barking, snatching at my clothes (I have a scratch on my skin from one). Meanwhile the ineffective owners are calling and calling. I wasn't scared, just pissed off. They only left me when the owners were fully past me and the dogs eventually followed them. I got a rather pathetic sorry.

Next time (I see them a lot) I will be more vocal and insist they get their dogs off me.

I'm not a big fan of cats but at least they keep to themselves and do not make a lot of noise. They also do not regularly hurt or kill people.

No, they just regularly hurt and kill the area's wildlife instead. Then cat owners wonder why they never see any birds in their garden!

chaosmaker · 02/05/2025 09:49

@rosemarble, I'd be insisting they are on leads until they can manage them. Dogs are horrible mostly.

I will do that next time I come across them.

Dangermoo · 02/05/2025 10:10

I don't think I've ever seen a platform where canines are so triggering. It's really quite like....Well a cult.

It must have been at least 48 hours since we last had a dog moaning thread 🥱

Why do you and other posters bother opening these threads if you find them so dull?! I don’t open threads just to performatively state my boredom with them!

I find a walking pole helpful for any 'encounters'.
Please do out-shout the dog nutters - loudly - if it happens again.
We should all be able to enjoy a quiet walk.

5 is a pack and could spark each other off especially if the people with them have no control. Dangerous.

Lamelie · 02/05/2025 10:33

It’s a swift change! We moved into a new area a year ago and the first few times at church was warmly greeted with but you have a dog don’t you?!

Dangermoo · 02/05/2025 10:38

My border collie and labrador provide much warmth, intellect and adventure. I find people who hate dogs quite disturbing. More so if they start a thread calling dog ownership a cult.

If you read the majority of posts on this thread, you would see there's no hate involved from most of us. I love dogs. Just not everywhere.

chaosmaker · 02/05/2025 11:06

News story today about a small dog attacking police horses in London. Owner with no control.....

I don't hate all dogs, more the clueless owners with no control.

There is plenty of hate though from those who despise canines. With all the shit going on between human beings I can't get worked up about dogs being in cafes, amongst other public places.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, and I feel the same about hate directed towards cats - no need of some of the vile comments you see on some threads. However, I'm an animal lover so no hatred from me. I'm allowed to get fed up with dogs in places that I don't think they or I enjoy though - there's a massive increase in dogs so it's not just one or two. Do you think dogs belong in clothing shops for example?

The cult of “sick to fucking death of treading in dog shit”, yeah. It’s not Scientology levels of lunacy not to want poo on your summer sandals, is it?

Dog faeces everywhere it's revolting, and little plastic bags with dog feces oozing out of them everywhere🤮🤮🤮🤮
Dog people walking along swinging their little bags of dog feces 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Yeah it’s rank isn’t it

I think there needs to be much harsher penalties for people who don’t pick up their dogs shit. Like really BIG fines.

Ugh it's so foul. Me and DH were watching someone the other day, stopping to chat to his friend with a little bag of shit swinging. The pong must have been vile. Stomach churning!

It's not enforceable ☹️
Dog people just do whatever they like and there's nothing to stop them ☹️

Onleemoi · 02/05/2025 12:50

😂 you lot really, really make me want to stop being a responsible owner.
