To dare to think that the Cult of Dog has gone too far?

There is now not a single public space in my home town that is dog-free - and that includes cafes, restaurants and even the library. Local beaches, once a quiet escape, have turned into asylums for the fur baby/pupper brigade to inflict their poorly trained animals on others with children getting chased, people jumped on and tripped over and all to the sound of hysterical barking and frequent dog fights.
80 year old woman knocked over by uncontrollable dog? 'You got in his way'.
Ask politely that you take your dog away from our lunch table? 'Go fuck yourself'.
Sit on the most remote bench you can find? Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan lets loose 3 dogs from her 4x4 to jump all over you and laughs that it's 'their spot' and turns unhinged when you push them away.
Yes, this is a rant and yes I hate most dog owners.
This weird cult that values darling dogs over human beings is actually pretty worrying.
I shall await the inevitable and hilarious 'incoming' from the emotionally stunted Doggo Nutters.

And you are the one looking for problems, instead of being welcoming and inclusive.

I'd rather welcome humans thanks.

And you don't even understand how entitled, condescending and selfish you come across?
I'm sure one day you will find more empathy in your heart.
I sincerely wish that for you.
Until then, you are part of the problem.

It doesn’t

you are so un self aware you can’t see that you are the one who is selfish. There’s no point engaging with that level of entitlement so I’m out

OonaStubbs · 27/04/2025 14:06

People are entitled to not like dogs and not want to be around dogs. There should be spaces for humans only, where no dogs or other animals are allowed.

No.

We are seeing a handful of dog hating posters who start a new dog hating thread every five minutes.

It is utterly bizarre that some dog owners can't actually see that people have perfectly legitimate issues with dogs being brought everywhere now.

I was in our local coffee shop recently, where I buy a coffee several times a week. The woman ahead of me had a small white fluffy dog of some sort in her arms. As she leaned forward to take her coffee, her dog stuck its nose into the container of stir sticks sitting on the counter for people to stir their coffee. I was going to tell her but decide not to risk her possible wrath so I said nothing.

I'd have risked her wrath - unlikely she'd have punched you with her fur baby in her arms.
I've got to the stage where I'll call anyone like this out.

I saw a big slobbery (tho quite friendly looking) thing take a massive sneeze in the ladies wear section at John Lewis the other day. 🤮

People sneeze in shops too, and you're more likely to catch an illness from a person.

Motherofdragons24 · 27/04/2025 14:25

Totally agree. Not everyone is a dog person. I don’t let my toddlers jump/ climb and run all over people. If my two year old isn’t walking nicely beside me he goes in the buggy or the reins go on so please keep your filthy animals away from me!

Onleemoi · 27/04/2025 14:28

More than happy for a business owner to decide they don’t want dogs on their premises. Why not share the petitions you’ve started or the email templates to local politicians you’ve drafted? I’ll even add my signature for you.

Erm...basic hygiene issue.
And most people will at least cover their face or sneeze into a tissue. 😑

We don't get many dogs round here at all. Farm dogs and thats it. It's a rural area. I have only seen 1 or 2 dogs in the two pubs in the village and always on a lead becsuse the pubs are on a main road.
The only annoying dog is the one two houses away that barks all day.

I am sick of it as well OP. People seem to orient their entire lives around dogs as well now. Back when I grew up they had a kennel in the garden and you’d play with them in the evening, now they are treated like children!! I also can’t stand those dog owners who refer to their dogs as “b-tch” and “b-tches” thinking they are so clever using a technical word that is really just disguised misogyny.

If you booked your bitch in where I work you'd be frothing that it's called a bitch spay.

Uberaddict · 27/04/2025 14:38

I love dogs but it’s gone mad. This week I went to a high end sample sale on Regents street. . It was a ticketed event- hot and sweaty. You had to check all bags, costs and prams in to prevent shoplifting. It was a communal changing. Someone brought their large dog in with them - nothing on the dog to suggest it was an assistance dog

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 27/04/2025 14:39

JoBrandsCleaner · 26/04/2025 19:28

I’m bloody sick of it. 3 Newfoundland’s and an otter hound in my swimming pool today at the village hotel. When I mentioned it, all I got was ‘there aren’t any ‘no dogs allowed’ signs!’ Unbelievable!

If it's your pool why were they in it?

Dappy777 · 27/04/2025 14:50

I kind of agree. Unfortunately, dogs are just so much more likeable than children. I can’t stand most people’s kids, but if the neighbours buy a new puppy, I’m there.

dynamiccactus · 27/04/2025 15:17

One day we'll look back and realise how mean we were to keep dogs/other animals as pets.

Probably when AI has evolved and keeps US as pets.
