To dare to think that the Cult of Dog has gone too far?

MariLlwyd · 25/04/2025 11:43

There is now not a single public space in my home town that is dog-free - and that includes cafes, restaurants and even the library. Local beaches, once a quiet escape, have turned into asylums for the fur baby/pupper brigade to inflict their poorly trained animals on others with children getting chased, people jumped on and tripped over and all to the sound of hysterical barking and frequent dog fights.
80 year old woman knocked over by uncontrollable dog? 'You got in his way'.
Ask politely that you take your dog away from our lunch table? 'Go fuck yourself'.
Sit on the most remote bench you can find? Peri-menopausal wild eyed harridan lets loose 3 dogs from her 4x4 to jump all over you and laughs that it's 'their spot' and turns unhinged when you push them away.
Yes, this is a rant and yes I hate most dog owners.
This weird cult that values darling dogs over human beings is actually pretty worrying.
I shall await the inevitable and hilarious 'incoming' from the emotionally stunted Doggo Nutters.

So you're just going to ignore all of the posters who agreed with the Op who have declared themselvesdog owners and dog lovers who agree it's gone too far?

Exactly Liverpool52 ! Apart from the odd extreme comment, most posters are either dog owners or like me, love dogs. I choose not to own one, but that doesn't mean I dislike them. I just think there are too many of them now, don't think they belong in cafes, restaurants and shops - that's not dog hating! Just like any pet owner, you need to consider what's best for your pet as well as what's appropriate for the rest of society. Pets are not compatible with every part of human activities, that's not a animal hating viewpoint so trying to frame it like those who disagree with you are such is disingenuous at best.

If I go to a cafe or a pub that are dog friendly then yes, I will ignore all the moaning haters.

I think you're missing the point that it is getting to be the case that ALL cafes/libraries etc are dog friendly this excluding actual human beings who can't or don't want to be near bloody dogs.

I think they are trying to be inclusive and diverse.

What’s wrong with that?

Inviting dogs into every space is the opposite of inclusive and diverse.

It discriminates against those who access spaces using service dogs.

It discriminates against those with allergies

It discriminates against those who can not be near dogs for religious/cultural reasons.

It discriminates against those with a phobia or fear of dogs or who have had traumatic experiences with dogs.

The only people who are "included" are those entitled and selfish enough to want to drag their dogs into inappropriate spaces.

What you are doing here is resource guarding.

You really have to try sharing. It’s a good thing.

Onleemoi · 27/04/2025 13:23

What if your dog walks willingly and you don’t drag them? Are they ok to be in dog friendly places then?

The hyperbole on these threads just means that reasonable comments and complaints will be ignored.

Stop pretending that all dogs want to be doing the weekly shop in tescos. Or hanging out with you whilst you try on clothes in Zara. Or sitting under a table in a dingy pub while you have pints with your pals. It's you that wants them there.

Sharing with people is more important than sharing with animals

You need to look at the person behind the animal.

Don't get boxed in a narrow outlook at the world.

Quite the opposite.

I’m happy to share my space with people who don’t like my dogs.

More exaggerating. If the truth warrants a comment or complaint just stick to facts.

No t when your dogs presence makes it impossible to share. You are then knowingly excluding.

Oblomov25 · 27/04/2025 13:33

I feel this. I adore dogs. But I can't go anywhere now, they are in cafes, restaurants, 3 of my last jobs!

I listed facts above about who is discriminated against by dog friendly policies. You have replied saying I am being hyperbolic but haven't countered any of what I said about those facts.

And you are the one looking for problems, instead of being welcoming and inclusive.
