Theme park queue jumping for DLP

RichSherl · 23/04/2025 14:20

Probably the wrong place to ask this but...

My DP wants us to employ a theme park queue jumper for when we go to Disneyland Paris in October.

I didn't even know these things existed?!?!?! 🤐

I've not been to DLP for a number of years but apparently it's a thing that people go with their disabled parents just so they can skip queues for rides and to see characters etc?

Can anyone corroborate this? It seems mad to me and beyond unethical.

Anyway, AIBU or should we really use someone like this to help us skip queues?

My dh had to have a video meeting with my daughter there to approve my daughters pass so I think Disney are starting to realise it’s being misused.

This will have been for the US - DLP don't do video calls but DW/DLC have done these for years. They have increased the rigour though recently and a lot of people who were eligible before no longer are.
We are eligible for two different passes at DLP because DH has diabetes so he gets the "return later" pass and DS gets DLA so he gets a no queue pass. They require actual evidence of benefits for DS.
But if DD and I want to go on without them we are stuck in the queue as it should be.

Bumpitybumper · 24/04/2025 07:38

Your poll is slightly confusing as I didn't know whether YANBU was agreeing with you that you shouldn't do this or suggesting YANBU to use this service.

Either way this is disgusting and this man should be banned from Disney and all other theme parks.

Employ one if you want to; reading through all of these comments I’m confused as to why being disabled entitles you to get on a ride before an full paying queuing abled person. If you want the privilege of avoiding massive queues pay for it

Because would you believe some people have disabilities that mean it’s very hard/impossible for them to queue.

If this didn’t exist then they wouldn’t be able to go at all.

Youd prefer that would you?

And obviously what the OPs husband is suggesting is repugnant

Why take them to a place where queues are inevitable then? Bizarre

DH can't queue for an hour and a half in case he needs to sit down/sort out his blood sugar meter if it fails in that time. He can WAIT for an hour and a half but he'd need to do it elsewhere.
DS has a disability that means he can't wait that long without risking a meltdown. He could either return to the queue after doing other things for that time, or on some with shorter queues go on quickly.
Before they changed the regulations, I was in a wheelchair temporarily with a need to elevate one leg every half hour or so. I got a DAS pass for the US involving a video interview and some rides offered a return time so DD and I went and sat down while I elevated my leg, or went on a short ride as well.
I couldn't go if I had that condition again, without the pass.

So my disabled son should never go any where then?
His siblings should miss out on going on holiday because he can’t go?

People like you make a hard life even harder. Hope
that makes you feel good.

He is non verbal and uses a wheelchair. He will never live independently - and you’d like to make his family’s life harder. Wow

LunchtimeNaps · 24/04/2025 07:46

I'm sorry but queue jump Mick needs looking at for more reasons than the service he is offering.

My son has an access pass and I'd be horrified if someone used him like this.

Would you be horrified if he made money from his disability when he’s an adult by doing this if he couldn’t get other employment due to his disability? Would you be horrified if he made his disability work for him then?

Yes why on earth would disabled kids want to do things other kids do and enjoy 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 24/04/2025 07:53

That's a disgusting concept. A disbled person pimping themselves out. Worse though, the person that would use this service.
No different to prostitution

Elphamouche · 24/04/2025 07:54

As someone with a disability who now has to jump through ridiculous hoops in Florida, people like your husband are the reason getting the pass I’ve legitimately used for years is now near impossible.

Absolutely disgusting.

Yes if it meant what he was doing actively made things harder for other disabled people

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 24/04/2025 07:57

I’m a bit confused, it’s just their right anyway? Why would it be unethical?

Unless you mean taking someone disabled on purpose with no regards for their comfort. Then it’s disgusting.

I didn’t say that disabled people shouldn’t go I just don’t agree that they should be entitled to avoid queues that full paying others have to join; if they pay to jump queue then fine otherwise not ok. From your response you are saying that it’s worth your disabled child's discomforts in order that your other kids don’t miss out. Ok fair enough

Gallowayan · 24/04/2025 08:00

Of course you should not do this what a stupid and disgusting question. Access rights for dissabled people have only come about after a long fight and dissability scammers undermine the credibility of people with genuine needs.

It's not a human right for everyone to go to Disneyland. My kids didn't go as I couldn't afford it. They survived. If your kids cant cope with the queues, maybe don't go?

Why shouldn't my children go and use the accommodations in place to make Disney accessible and enjoyable for them?

Disabled people, including children, do have rights to reasonable accommodations to allow them to access services and attractions, whether you like it or not.

Morph22010 · 24/04/2025 08:01

I know it’s not that park op is asking about but someone using the service at Alton towers or Thorpe park would be very disappointed I think as they’d be expecting fast track for their money but ride access pass isn’t as good as it appears. The ride access pass queues are shorter but they are much slower moving as they tend to only let one party from the queue on each ride. Then you get timed out for the length of the main queue. Sometimes by time you’ve added in actual wait plus time out it is longer than actual queue so you only end up doing roughly about same number of rides you’d do without a ride access. You can get fast track silver from £60 a person which is actual fast track for six rides so you have less of a wait and don’t get a time out. Ride access is the disabled person plus three so by time you’d paid £100 plus the guys travel expenses you wouldn’t be paying much less than £180 youd pay for silver fast track anyway and getting an inferior option.

He isn’t discomforted if he’s able to skip the queue. And he adores theme parks.

But wouldn’t be able to go at all if he had to queue for an hour.

And you think they should have to pay even more money? You do realise that disabled people and their carers are often unable to work or are discriminated against meaning they have much less money than they otherwise would.

Live one hour in a disabled persons life or their parents life and you would change your opinion in a heartbeat - I guarantee it.

Of course Disabled people should not have to pay extra for accommodations that they need to make services accessible to them. The suggestion that they should is offensive. Fortunately, disability discrimination legislation doesn't agree with you.

This is a disgusting perspective!

We’re all one accident or one illness away from being disabled. 1 in 4 of us are likely to become disabled, even if we aren’t now.

‘Disabled people’ aren’t some mythical other subset of people, they’re you and me. Your perspective is horrible.

I think anyone should have to pay extra for privileges regardless. Thankfully I don’t go to any of these ghastly places & this thread reinforces why. I can’t imagine anything worse

oustedbymymate · 24/04/2025 08:14

This cannot be a thing?! Surely?! You're going to take a bloke who you've never met and pay him and his park tickets to stand in a queue you're not entitled to. Am I reading that right? What on earth are you thinking and teaching your children?!

I’m no longer eligible in Florida either yet my epilepsy hasn’t been magically cured if only.
