Theme park queue jumping for DLP

RichSherl · 23/04/2025 14:20

Probably the wrong place to ask this but...

My DP wants us to employ a theme park queue jumper for when we go to Disneyland Paris in October.

I didn't even know these things existed?!?!?! 🤐

I've not been to DLP for a number of years but apparently it's a thing that people go with their disabled parents just so they can skip queues for rides and to see characters etc?

Can anyone corroborate this? It seems mad to me and beyond unethical.

Anyway, AIBU or should we really use someone like this to help us skip queues?

It's not a human right for everyone to go to Disneyland. My kids didn't go as I couldn't afford it. They survived. If your kids cant cope with the queues, maybe don't go?

If these concessions are being offered, as a way of making these theme parks more accessible to some people, why should they not go?

Me too! The bit where he says he can talk as little or as much as you want has me creased, and the name Mick Halliday is genius!

I’m ashamed to say I share a surname with him 🤦🏻‍♀️ no relation, honest!

Very frustrating for those people that genuinely need the queue passes for their disabilities that someone is doing this.

Obvs they are entitled to it due to their disability but to market it and attend on days not for them just adds to the issue. Especially considering Merlin you now have to pre-book the days and there is limited spaces available.

This!! 👏🏻

ElfDragon · 23/04/2025 19:59

My dc are entitled to access passes for theme parks etc. I have often joked that they are invaluable to their friends on visits to Thorpe Park etc, due to being able to skip the queue (NB, you still have to wait, as it’s a virtual queue system for Merlin, but you can spend the queue time doing other stuff at least). Dd2 has been in great demand for the last couple of years when friends are arranging days out, and on her school trip to Thorpe Park also - a group of around 8 friends all swapped on/off accompanying her and they all had a great time. Ds likewise blew his friend’s mum mind when we organised his ride access for Legoland a couple of years ago - she’d never had as easy a day there 🤣

I would honestly find it weird if I knew anyone who wanted to hire a random stranger to do this though. It makes the system unusable for those who really need it, and eventually the accommodations are changed, sometimes drastically.

Disney in USA have had to radically change their access system, and Merlin over here is nothing like it was when my dc were younger either, all due to overuse and abuse of the system.

The poll is being misunderstood I think and people mean it would be unreasonable to do this.

if you are willing to pay just use the Fastpass system for individual rides when needed.

Yes I have no idea which each option means.

OP, it is not ok to do this. It makes things harder for people with a genuine need - both on the day and in future when the theme parks make the rules much tighter because of people who abuse it.

SwornToSilence · 23/04/2025 16:58

While I disagree with this when you can buy a fast pass. I can't see it any more selfish and unreasonable than those who help themselves to our copper cables putting the internet out for days, or scam the benefit system or try to lower their tax return or those who sell black market driving tests. Everyone is out to make a quick buck, the world has no morals any more

um, has anybody said those are okay things to do?

The forum is called and question is 'am i being unreasonable' not 'rank how unreasonable I'm being on a scale of other completely unrelated unreasonable things.'

It’s a terrible thing to do. My sister took my severely disabled non verbal autistic niece to DLP and there were so many queue jumpers in the disabled queue that they legitimately joined , that a little boy who was genuinely very disabled and a few places behind her , missed his ride entirely . His mum had been trying to get him to understand the wait in the, albeit, shorter disabled queue . He was devastated and had a meltdown when they reached the front and the ride broke down. Yay for all the selfish gits who took his treat.

How do you know they were queue jumpers?

PeloMom · 24/04/2025 06:35

It’d be much cheaper to pay or the priority passes (forgot their names). Last summer was €5 per person for some of them (and don’t think we oasis paid than €15 per person a that was only one above €10) and we didn’t only the rides we really liked. And was really fast too.

Trolllol · 24/04/2025 06:37

My dh had to have a video meeting with my daughter there to approve my daughters pass so I think Disney are starting to realise it’s being misused.

ChompinCrocodiles · 24/04/2025 06:42

Never mind the cost and morality of it.

Can you imagine how fucking awkward it would be having some random man with you all day every day on holiday?!

Motherofacertainage · 24/04/2025 06:44

I mean it's Disney. A celebration of Capitalism. This guy is just taking it to its natural conclusion. Brilliant if you think about it. If you don't like corporate greed don't go. Noone has a god given right to go to a theme park. My now young adult children have never been to Disney and don't seem to need counseling.

Talkingfrog · 24/04/2025 06:45

I am in several dlp Facebook groups and never heard of it. However, i would think due to it being morally wrong, most groups would remove comments suggesting it anyway.
There are two passes they offer, depending on either the condition or evidence provided.
For rides, the one means you use the disabled queue, or premier access entrance (depending on mobility). The other means you get a return time to go back. The passholder must ride each time.
There are differences in how they are used for other things such as shows/parades too, and a different number of people that accompany the pass holder.
The way you meet sone characters is changing soon anyway, and will be in line with the way the superhero meet is currently done. Having a priority pass will make no difference to those meets, because it is a virtual queue.
I would like to think if dlp found out they would take action. It could result I you and the person bring paid, being removed from the park.
Personally, we never used fastpasses or what is now premier access. We wait in the queues, which sometimes aren't that long. You can pay per person, per ride for those you want to premier access. It may cost less that paying someone in the way your husband intends.

Silvertulips · 24/04/2025 06:51

A lot of people do take the piss but a lot you’re judging probably have some more hidden disability

I do wonder of you have read the tread?

Hiring a disabled person to get in in the fast pass queue is the question, it’s not about hidden disabilities at all.

Just to say my niece was also a popular choice for theme park visits!

ObsidianTree · 24/04/2025 06:55

Disney have just announced virtual queues for character meets for everyone which everyone will have to use. Maybe this skipping the line con is why Disney have decided to do this.

Didn't realise this was a thing.

LlynTegid · 24/04/2025 06:59

I suggest OP thinks carefully, not all disabilities are the same.

I think it’s a great way for disabled people to make money, there’s very little that’s good about being disabled so why shouldn’t they find a way to be benefit from it?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/04/2025 07:03

I feel the real issue is that these theme parks allow more people in than they can realistically cope with.

TigerRag · 24/04/2025 07:18

I'm not surprised people do this. I've had a few people ask me to do things with them because they get in free due to my disabilities. They weren't happy when I declined their"offer". (because I knew it was the only reason they asked)

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 24/04/2025 07:20

This is nuts.
Not sure if want mickey tagging along on my dream holiday

BreakingPoint555 · 24/04/2025 07:22

My son has an access pass and I'd be horrified if someone used him like this.

Kilroyonly · 24/04/2025 07:26

Employ one if you want to; reading through all of these comments I’m confused as to why being disabled entitles you to get on a ride before an full paying queuing abled person. If you want the privilege of avoiding massive queues pay for it

scotstars · 24/04/2025 07:31

Unethical and highly annoying for those who genuinely need to use accessible queues. You can only have up to 4 people on the 1 pass so if you are more than a family of 3 it wouldn't work anyway.
I saw at DLP a couple with 2 kids and I'm guessing their gran in a wheelchair in accessible queue. Attendant told them it was max 4 and they indicated gran would be the 1 to miss out. They were huffing when the attendant pointed out they couldn't use the accessible queue in that case madness!

ZenNudist · 24/04/2025 07:34

Surely it would be cheaper to buy priority passes for your actual family?

This thread has worried me that we can't go to DWF with disabled in law's anymore. Also my friend has booked to go with her DS and DH who have medical conditions in October and I wonder if the disabled access is now being reduced for them.

Eight8eight · 24/04/2025 07:36

Abuse of the system at WDW has led to a dreadful situation where practically nobody can get a DAS pass. It is morally repugnant to do this OP.

ASimpleLampoon · 24/04/2025 07:36

As the parent of a high support needs disabled child

people who exploit concessions put in place to help disabled people are the lowest of the low.

Exploiting your disabled family members for personal gain is vile.

And to think people who genuinely need these things pretty much always feel guilty and wonder whether they should use it, and try very hard to use it fairly.

This kind of thing makes me feel sick. Physically sick.

Hope that helps
