It's St George's which should be a national celebration.

Yet nothing

These days people are probably too woke to even mention it. Probably more worried about the welfare of the dragon. Bring back national service I say.

(Why don't you put something on there? Be brave like st George)

BodenCardiganNot · 23/04/2025 12:07

It's been moved - by the Church of England - to next Monday.
This last happened in 2019.

A note issued by the church states: "When St George's Day or St Mark's Day falls between Palm Sunday and the Second Sunday of Easter inclusive, it is transferred to the Monday after the Second Sunday of Easter.
"If both fall in this period, St George's Day is transferred to the Monday and St Mark's Day to the Tuesday."

feathermucker · 23/04/2025 12:08

How is Teams relevant to this? Is it a work Teams thing? Have you made a post?

thepariscrimefiles · 23/04/2025 12:11

What are you talking about? How is Teams relevant? It's never been a national celebration. What sort of celebration are you expecting?

Ablondiebutagoody · 23/04/2025 12:12

I'm English and not bothered about St George's Day so get why others aren't.

If you want to celebrate, do so. Nobody is stopping you. Apart from the church who don't like it this close to Easter.

Profhilodisaster · 23/04/2025 12:14

I have never in my life seen an email or Teams message about St George's day.

Needmorelego · 23/04/2025 12:17

There was a big St George's Day event in Trafalgar Square in London last week so it isn't ignored.
Can't speak for other towns/cities because I don't live in them.
I too only just discovered about the date change this year because of Easter - learn something new everyday 🙂

HowardTJMoon · 23/04/2025 12:20

Why should St George's day be a national celebration?

AmyDudley · 23/04/2025 12:21

It's also St Adelbert's day. I don't see him getting a shout out on Teams either. The world's gone to hell in a handbasket.

lazycats · 23/04/2025 12:21

ODFOD

Needmorelego · 23/04/2025 12:21

@BusyAzureFatball a quick Google shows there are various St George's Day events in various towns and cities next weekend.
(London held their big one last weekend).
If you want to celebrate have a Google for your local area.

Needmorelego · 23/04/2025 12:23

@BusyAzureFatball of yes - it shouldn't be a "national" day because it's an English thing.
Only one fourth of the UK 😂

UniqueRedSquid · 23/04/2025 12:23

But it isn’t St. George’s Day.

And who cares anyway?

DUsername · 23/04/2025 12:24

Why would the lack of a post on YOUR teams mean it isn't being celebrated anywhere else by anyone else?? You realise that not everyone in England works for your organisation, right?

And why don't you post something in whatever teams chat you feel is appropriate if you want to?

ExtraOnions · 23/04/2025 12:24

You can’t even say you are English now, without being arrested.

I long for the days when Winston Churchill paraded about London with a bulldog dressed in a Union Jack Waistcoat..

You get arrested now for flying a Union Jack

Woke gone mad

Sodesperatelysad · 23/04/2025 12:24

Couldn't give a fuck about St George's day tbh. What kind of celebration are you expecting on your work teams?

MiniPantherOwner · 23/04/2025 12:25

How would you expect the occasion to be marked? As far as I'm aware their are no traditions around it outside of what takes place in church. It would be a bit weird to go around wishing everyone a happy St George's day. If your work regularly acknowledges St David's day and St Andrew's day then maybe you've got a point, but I wouldn't expect it to be acknowledged at work.

Although of the 68m people in the UK, 58m live in England - the vast majority, not 1/4 of the UK.

I’m English but not bothered about St George’s day, just making the point that it’s a lot more than a quarter. I can see why it’s more of a big deal to celebrate St David’s day for the Welsh and St Andrew for the Scots.

Well the way this stupid bloody country is going, it would probably “offend” some silly bugger if it was mentioned.

You're absolutely right. As ExtraOnions rightfully points out, you can't say anything these days.

Needmorelego · 23/04/2025 12:35

@NoSoapJustUseShowerGel I meant one fourth as there is 4 countries in the UK - not as in a quarter of the population 🙂

Mumble12 · 23/04/2025 12:35

Depends really, do you get a teams message for every single event throughout the year?

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 23/04/2025 12:35

Why would there be a Teams post about it?
I'm Scottish and have literally no idea when St Andrews day is, that’s how much I care about patriotic tub thumping.

I live in Wales now though and St Davids Day is hard to miss!

heroinechic · 23/04/2025 12:39

National celebration? I’ve never seen any St George’s Day celebrations in my life, let alone taken part!

MysticCatLady · 23/04/2025 12:39

St. George never step foot in England. It's bizarre.
