It's St George's which should be a national celebration.

Yet nothing

Maybe everyone else in your organisation is sat there thinking exactly the same thing and asking themselves why no one has posted anything! If it's such a big deal to you then why don't you post something on Teams?

Does St George get a food? St David gets daffodils and leeks, I would default St Andrew to haggis (Edinburgh residents note there is free entry to the castle on St A day, but it will be raining), St Patrick has guinness - what does St G get?

I'm not celebrating unless he has a special food or hat.

Kebab, he's Turkish
Edited: other Turkish foods are available

Gives people time to talk about it now and prepare

Nice try!

loropianalover · 23/04/2025 14:18

Is there a reason you won’t send a Teams message about it?

MereNoelle · 23/04/2025 14:19

BusyAzureFatball · 23/04/2025 13:15

But not on the actual day?

It’s not today, though. It’s on the 28th this year.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 23/04/2025 14:19

JandLandG · 23/04/2025 14:16

Agreed.

I tried to look at a photo of the Queen on the internet the other day and three van loads of police turned up and arrested me.

Yet on the same day, loads of foreigners were given free massive big posh houses in Hampstead.

Two years to save the west

Etc etc etc

I'm currently dressed as a full English breakfast and have already had some pretty unpatriotic reactions

Preposterious · 23/04/2025 14:20

St George was Turkish and Palestinian. Interesting!

I think a few people are missing the sarcasm in some of the posts

😁 you are not surprised are you? 😂
Classic mn!

Yet trans is celebrated. Eid is celebrated. Yet your own country isn't celebrated.

Weird

Also we don't have an office

Eid is not a national celebration in the UK. Christmas and Easter on the other hand are.

Where is trans celebrated?

Personally I think some proponents of English nationalism have become too fond of victimhood. And speaking for myself, if it isn't a Bank Holiday it doesn't count.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/04/2025 14:21

LadyChillT · 23/04/2025 13:48

right...so will Britain celebrate with Cappadocian snacks and decorations? that would actually be interesting

Well, England, not Britain - but I wouldn’t know, I’m not English, or British for that matter. However, Cappadocian are my favourite of all the snacks, so I’ll join in anyway 😉

Tell me you are a racist and will be voting for Reform without telling me you are a racist and will be voting for Reform.
What utter nonsense you write. 😂

Seriously?

IndigoViolent · 23/04/2025 14:22

I find it bizarre that you’d expect your company to post about this. Do they send you Merry Christmas greetings on Teams? Happy Easter?

BusyAzureFatball · 23/04/2025 14:22

Preposterious · 23/04/2025 14:20

Doesn't matter. People in England need to celebrate

You can’t even say you are English now, without being arrested.

I long for the days when Winston Churchill paraded about London with a bulldog dressed in a Union Jack Waistcoat..

You get arrested now for flying a Union Jack

Woke gone mad

Arrested and thrown in jail Stew!

WeHaveTheRabbit · 23/04/2025 14:24

This thread has really made me laugh. The OP's Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells tone, followed by the posts informing her that it isn't actually St. George's Day. Too bad the OP didn't wait a week. Oh, what a missed opportunity for moral outrage. 😅

Gives people time to talk about it now and prepare

Yes, thank you so much
I wouldn't want such an important day to sneak up on me and me not be all prepared for it.

MoistVonL · 23/04/2025 14:25

It’s Shakespeare’s birthday and World Book Night. I just ordered this year’s Quick Reads (£1 each at your local bookshop) and some new novels to celebrate.

England doesn’t need another public holiday in April. April/May have a cluster already. We need one in autumn or maybe late February.

MereNoelle · 23/04/2025 14:26

You’d think someone so passionate about celebrating the day of our Patron saint would know that Saint days cannot be celebrated in Easter week, and it has therefore been moved this year.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 23/04/2025 14:27

We can't celebrate as we don't know what food or hat St George wants us to eat / wear!

THIS is where we fail as a nation. Other people know their hats.

Speckson · 23/04/2025 14:28

We've got the England flag up on our flagpole at home. Now I know St George's day has been moved this year I'll leave it up until the 28th.

Totot · 23/04/2025 14:28

Wow, so into St George’s Day, but doesn’t even know when it is 😂

kellygoeswest · 23/04/2025 14:28

I'm confused, why can't you message in the teams chat to say "happy st. georges day" if you want it brought up? I'm sure you'll get some replies and gifs.

I don't think we've ever talked about "holidays" in our teams chat, other than christmas, but I messaged on pancake day (a meaningful day to me).

Why do they need to ?
People need to do many things more important to life thancelebrate an non-english saint.
Indeed, people need to stop worshiping saints

ZaZathecat · 23/04/2025 14:31

Teams?? 🤔 I was a child in the 1960s and it wasn't celebrated then either so it's nothing new or so-called woke
