Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

I like the grey rock advice.

So someone says something provocative and unpleasant and you reply “ok.” Or something like that. Very effective when it is someone you have no choice but to co parent with. (I say co parent but they don’t actually parent and are just abusive and see the teens occasionally but pretend they are co parents).
Explaining yourself to someone unreasonable is completely pointless so grey rock helps save wasting energy pointlessly. No rudeness or conflict but it just shuts down unpleasant conversations.

D-Mannose supplements for UTI prevention. I used to get UTIs all the time and once started a thread at 3am when I was miserable and suffering. An angel of a poster recommended them, and now I take them after sex or on days when I know I haven’t had enough to drink or peed often enough, and I haven’t had one since.

And also for meal plans. Tell it how many days, any dietary requirements or preferences, and what sort of thing you want (e.g., family meals, low fat, quick and easy, impressive, etc) and it'll suggest a menu.

Oh my god I've just done it and it's amazing! Life changing! I am based in Sweden so asked it to make it specifically using ingredients from Swedish supermarkets and it's even asked if I want a shopping list to go with it! I'm in!

I posted donkeys years ago under a different name when I was struggling as a new Mum with PND. I had been forcing myself to do ALL the baby groups with my newborn, even though I fucking hated them, because that's what I thought I was supposed to do. Some wise, kind soul told me to stop doing that and start taking my baby to places I wanted to go. So I ditched Rhyme Time at the Library, strapped baby in a carrier and took her round Museums, Galleries, for long walks, whatever I felt like doing. It sounds obvious but at the time in my sleep deprived, PND brain fog it was a revelation.

I've not uploaded any photo
(Unless my fat fingers did!)

I think she means did you upload a photo of yourself to ChatGPT for your colours.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 22/04/2025 18:11

Thank you. The last time I looked on Amazon, I couldn't find any at a normal price. In fact I noticed there's an ad still on there for 1kg for £8.95!

Silver wrapping paper for all occasions (birthday, Christmas, wedding etc). Always keep a stash in the house.

Also cards. Whenever I see a beautiful card in a museum shop or a gallery - you know, the gorgeous arty ones - I buy it and put it away. I've then got a stash to choose from when birthdays ambush me. Also I have a supply of A4 photo frames, and any exceptionally gorgeous cards go in there and go up on the wall. I have an endless rotation of artwork going on!

Store your duvet cover, pillow cases and sheet folded inside one of the matching pillow cases. Means you can just grab a set and not have to go hunting for the inevitable missing pillowcase or sheet...

My 73yo dad was gobsmacked when he saw me do that last month 😂

Hatty65 · 22/04/2025 16:23

@marmiteandminticecream Yes. Apparently if you have a KS or over bed then the duvet SHOULD have the seams running across the bed. I had always just assumed that any size of duvet had the stitching running from head to foot - but apparently not. Apparently on a single or double bed then the duvet should have the long side going down the bed - but on KS and over then the longest side of the duvet goes horizontally across the bed.

Im still baffled by this?

That's a really good idea, thank you 😊

I’d be pretty careful with Chat GPT for draping your season. I just tried it & it classified me as a cool summer that suits silver jewellery.

I’ve had my “colours done” and I’m a very obvious autumn, and I look awful in silver jewellery and much nicer in gold.

neverbeenskiing · 22/04/2025 18:21

When you're in the early school years of whole class parties so it feels like there's a birthday party every weekend, if you see a really good deal on a gender-neutral toy/game grab a stack of them, wrap them in gender neutral wrapping paper and put them in a drawer ready. Saves the last minute "shit I forgot to buy a present" panic. Also multi-packs of generic birthday cards for the same reason.

Josef Seibel Tonga sandals which were recommended on someone else's thread about comfortable sandals. They're great!

Notimeforaname · 22/04/2025 18:24

Scented nappy bags for when you're going to a country where you can't flush the toilet paper.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 22/04/2025 18:28

Store bin bags in the bottom of the bin under the one in use. Then when you take out the full one the next one is ready to put into place. Stops you playing bin Jenga with dread at having to change it!

DoNoTakeNo · 22/04/2025 18:29

It may sound silly but “No is a complete sentence” has empowered me - I wish I’d realised it as a teen.

Liz1tummypain · 22/04/2025 18:34

@Poppymeldrum could you please explain how chat GP told you your colors? I'm a bit of a dinosaur but I would love to know how you do it..

Cantwaituntiltheyareover · 22/04/2025 18:35

Cheap nappy bags are great for picking up dog poo, particularly from your garden. Large than poo bags, smell nicer, cheaper and can be tied-up easier

Pudmyboy · 22/04/2025 18:39

'Drop the rope': marvellous advice, I have given up the tug-of-war in a couple of difficult relationships and the relief and serenity I now feel is wonderful!

Zeitumschaltung · 22/04/2025 18:40

The gradual retreat for baby sleep
Paid for vaccinations being cheaper than the leave to look after the child/activities you may have to cancel, if you can get the cash together for the vaccination.

One that I have done without seeing it recommended anywhere: you know exactly how many milk teeth your child has. If you can spare the cash, get all the coins you will need now and put them in a jar out of sight. (I have also given this as a tooth fairy bank as a new parent gift when the parents were the kind of people who already have everything.)

IBelieveinSomething · 22/04/2025 18:41

I have had a karcher window vac for years and all the accessories. Including the wee squeegee thing to clean window before vac. I used it today for the first time. Amazing. And quite fun. (I don’t own the company).

IBelieveinSomething · 22/04/2025 18:46

I actually got so many other ideas from this site. Coverless duvets - a life changer. Robot vacuum - I’ve got 3, I’m on my 3rd version of the robot mower. Latest guy you just charge him up and set him down on the lawn and 4 hours later it’s perfect, no boundary wires or anything.

Ohnobackagain · 22/04/2025 18:46

SpikySausage · 22/04/2025 16:18

@Flytrap01 chatgpt is quite helpful on the subject of skincare as it turns out, but ultimately it won't really give an opinion or any real feedback (as you'd expect, given it doesn't have skin or a face).

You can add more detail to the prompt you write, for example, to give and check links to real feedback, as well as providing the source (and you could ask for examples of good and bad feedback). Tailor the prompt to focus the results.
