To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Another for the ‘don’t put things down, put them away’ genius!

at nighttime have kids shoes at the door and coats are hats accounted for

put your suncream on/ get changed before you tend to others

and 2 life changers was when I asked about tidying something and someone said basically but if that’s not your house to have everything perfect why would you? It kind of made me let go a lot of stress about trying to be perfect and also when someone said the person you’re arguing with (dh)is a different person to the one you married, as are you, you just have to figure out basically where you both are in relation to who you are now

Mumsnet made me buy a dehumidifier and it changed my life.

I actually got so many other ideas from this site. Coverless duvets - a life changer. Robot vacuum - I’ve got 3, I’m on my 3rd version of the robot mower. Latest guy you just charge him up and set him down on the lawn and 4 hours later it’s perfect, no boundary wires or anything.

I LOVE my robot hoover so much. Which lawn mover do you have? It would be a fab present for my dad if it works ok on an incline lawn.

Also Mounjaro for me! Despite having a very high BMI, it just never entered my mind as a possibility until I read a thread on here and a switch flipped in my head. Truly life changing.

Nomdejeur · 22/04/2025 19:58

HRT, don’t umm and Ahhh about it, don’t stick your head in the sand in denial. Changed my life! The old me is back.

Uniqlo skipper blouses.
As a short women with a comedy chest, it is the answer to the blouse issue I have been searching for for decades.
They fit, conceal the cleavage, are made of breathable viscose, bung them on a hanger and don't need ironing.
It's a fecking miracle I tell you!

Storage of bed linen. Put the correct-size sheet, duvet cover and pillow case(s) inside one of the pillowcases. When a bed needs changed, just grab the complete set out the airing cupboard. It was revolutionary for me - no more rummaging through bedsheets trying to find the right size!

I was coming on here to say exactly that, so simple but saves so much time.

My duvets haven't heard of this. Three double beds, 3 duvets all for double bed size, two have stitching from top to bottom and the other has them side to side. Blows my mind every time I change a bed as I forget which is which.

My KS duvet is stitched in squares so no lines to go by 🤷‍♀️

I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT HYSTERICAL BONDING BEFORE YOUR POST HERE @MounjaroOnMyMind

I'm so glad I looked it up. This was exactly what happened at the end of my last relationship after he cheated and we tried to repair.

Thank you so much for educating me.

Ooh loads of tips already!!

Newmumburnout · 22/04/2025 20:12

The TOMM cleaning method recommendation. Brown paper for wrapping for any occasion bought in bulk..

BrokenTeapots · 22/04/2025 20:15

Put any waste that can get smelly (meat, oranges that go mouldy, you know, anything like that) in a bag in the freezer until bin day. Completely stops your pedal or outside bin ever smelling. It feels much more hygienic as no germs festering in the bin too.

This is a game changer as a single person as it takes a couple of weeks at least to fill any normal bin bags.

2 metre charging phone cable = best £5 ever spent.

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

THANK YOU?!
I knew I was right the other days when me and DP disagreed 🤣

SpuytenDuyvil · 22/04/2025 19:42

Best MN advice for me: don't set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. Every woman should have that phrase on a post-it so she sees it as she walks out her front door.

This times 100

SpuytenDuyvil · 22/04/2025 20:22

@BrokenTeapots That is such good advice. My beloved DM lived on the coast and we ate all the lobster and other seafood we could get. Rather than put the detritus in the bin and let it fester in the hot summer, she would freeze it all. And, if she forgot one week to put it out, no matter, as long as there was space in the freezer.

themightysossidge · 22/04/2025 20:23

No is a complete sentence.

Also the example someone gave about online dating being a numbers game - if you walked into a room of 100 men how many would you fancy? Of those 100 would fancy you? It puts it all into perspective.

I’ve a similar one - how to put on a duvet cover single handed. There were various suggestions on the thread but the one that worked for me was putting the two top corners of the duvet into the corresponding corners of the cover, firmly gripping either side and then shaking the cover down to the bottom of the duvet. I probably haven’t explained that very well, but the duvet cover travels down and you end up with it perfectly placed at all four corners.

Pins for king size duvets? H9w does that work? Are they special pins? My duvet drives me mad, disappearing down the bottom, leaving me with cold shoulders
